Not really the type of book I usually read, but it's set in DC so it's kind of fun to see so many references to places I know in a book.
The book is about a young male who starts dealing drugs and stealing and becomes increasingly more violent. When he marries and becomes a father he has to start evaluating his life choices.
I'm starting to really like Vibe books and I'm officially on the hunt for more. I read Death Around the Corner by C-Murder and loved it months ago. Without knowing anything about Jasper or that this book had anything to do with Vibe I ordered it..... and found it was every bit as good as C-Murder's book. This isn't, by any means, your average street-lit book. Not at all. This book could only be found boring or "not good" by someone who doesn't get it IMO. Open this and you're not going to just get the name brand dropping, all perfect figured, characters that you find in every other book. You're not going to find most of the things you find in urban fiction today. This is more like really good general fiction in an urban perspective. That isn't to say there is nothing unrealistic here. There is. There is actually a lot that's unrealistic but while some of the actions and situations aren't something that normal people go through every day Jasper managed to be a real true spin on things. I loved the thinking process of the main character, Snow. That had to be the best part for me. The fact that Snow became a father and that this was a big part of the story did a lot for me too. I can't wait to find some more Vibe books and I also can't wait to read another Kenji Jasper book.
Honestly, I couldn't put this book down. Not sure why, but it sucked me in within the first 5 minutes of reading. I decided to read the book because it was recommended at the end of Murder Around the Corner by C-Murder. It wasn't as good as MATC. Some parts of the book were a little (a lot) far-fetched but overall, it was good. Death Around the Corner
