Within a group of advanced learners, the variety of abilities, talents, interests, and learning styles can be formidable. For the first time, this book connects the unique learning differences among gifted students to the specific teaching methods used to tailor their educational experiences. Differentiated instruction for gifted and talented students must go beyond adjusting content levels, task complexity, or product choice.
In my opinion, this is for a teacher that is new to gifted teaching. Good information for a newer teacher ... a ‘seasoned’ teacher is already familiar with this information.
School is school. Nice to get back into academic learning. I was able to learn a lot from this book to apply in my instruction. I even changed around an entire unit because of it. Great to get some insight on talented/gifted learners since there’s always a lot of focus in SPED, and I never really had training like this beforehand despite teaching these students in my extended classes.
I think this book would be great for teachers like me who are working with gifted learners who are not in gifted programs. It provided solid lesson ideas, school structure supports, different ways to differentiate for gifted learners- very practical. If you are already a gifted student educator this might be too simple for you, but it might also have some solid ideas.
I thought the book was going beyond the basics, but that is all they covered. They provided only a few strategies for differentiation for gifted learners. They had almost zero emphasis on using technology with gifted learners. It would have a better title if it said Gifted Learners for Dummies.
