46 books445 followersZahir Raihan (Bangla: জহির রায়হান) was a Bangladeshi novelist, writer and filmmaker. He is perhaps best known for his documentary Stop Genocide made during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
He was an active worker of the Language Movement of 1952. The effect of Language Movement was so high on him that he made his legendary film Jibon Theke Neya based on it. In 1971 he joined in the Liberation War of Bangladesh and created documentary films on this great event.
He disappeared on January 30, 1972 while trying to locate his brother, the famous writer Shahidullah Kaiser, who was captured and killed by the Pakistan army. Evidences have been found that he was killed by some armed Bihari collaborators and disguised soldiers of Pakistan Army.

এটি প্রথম অংশবিশেষ। বিদ্যমান ব্যবস্থার বিপরীতে আরেক ব্যবস্থা চলে আসা অবশ্যই পূর্বোক্ত ব্যবস্থার হর্তা কর্তারা মেনে নিবে না।সেই ব্যবস্থা যেন ভেঙ্গে পড়ে সেই চেষ্টায় চালাবে।তাই সোভিয়েত চলচ্চিত্রকে একটি পরাধীন আর প্রোপাগান্ডা ছড়ানো ফিল্ম ইন্ডাস্ট্রি ভাবা হতো।কিন্তু সোভিয়েত সিনেমা নিয়ে ডিন রিড থেকে চার্লি চ্যাপলিন পর্যন্ত অনেক সুনাম করেছেন। সোভিয়েতেরই চলচ্চিত্র ব্যাটলসিপ পোটেমকিন চলচ্চিত্র ইতিহাসের মাইলফলক হসেবে দাড়িয়েছে।সোভিয়েত চলচ্চিত্র আর্ট লেভেলে এক নতুন উদাহরণ দিয়েছে যা রি বুর্জোয়া সমাজ করতে পারে নি। ৮ পৃষ্ঠার এই লেখায় সোভিয়েত চলচ্চিত্র এর গৌরবগাথা পাওয়া যায় বাংলাদেশের এক বিখ্যাত চলচ্চিত্রকারের হাত থেকে। হ্যা......!!জহির রায়হানের হাত থেকে।

এ প্রসঙ্গে ম্যাক্সিম গোর্কীর একটা উক্তি মনে পড়লো।
লুমিয়ার ব্রাদার্স (ফরাসি) প্রযোজিত একটা ছবি দেখতে যান তিনি। সিনেমার সঙ্গে সেই তার প্রথম পরিচয়। সেটা ১৮৯৬ সাল। সিনেমা দেখে পরদিন গোর্কী একটা স্থানীয় সংবাদপত্রে লিখলেন–
Last night I was in the Kingdom of Shadows……………..I was at Aumont’s and swa Lumier’s Cinematograph_moving photography. The extraordinary impression it creates is so unique and complex that I doubt my ability to describe it with all its nuances………………I am convinced that these pictures will soon he replaced by others of a genre more suited to the general tone of the ‘Concert Parisian’. For example, they will show a Picture titled ‘As She undresses’ or ‘Madame at her Bath’ or ‘A woman in Stockings”.
