Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls has become known around the world as one of the most recognized faces of survival and outdoor adventure. His journey to this acclaim started in the UK on the Isle of Wight, where his late father taught him to climb and sail. Trained from a young age in martial arts, Bear went on to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, serving with 21 SAS. It was here that he perfected many of the skills that his fans all over the world enjoy watching him pit against mother-nature. Despite a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa, where he broke his back in three places, and after enduring months in military rehabilitation, Bear went on to become one of the youngest ever climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Bear went on to star in Discovery Channel's Emmy nominated Man Vs Wild and Born Survivor TV series, which has become one of the most watched shows on the planet. Off screen, Bear has lead record-breaking expeditions, from Antarctica to the Arctic, which in turn have raised over £2.5million for children around the world. In recognition of his expertise and service, Bear was appointed as the youngest ever Chief Scout to 28 million Scouts worldwide, awarded an honorary commission as a Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy, and has authored 10 books, including To My Sons.

Bear Grylls is cool. I even got the same brand of Merrell shoes he used on his TV show, though they turned out to be disappointing. He also wrote some pretty good Young Adult fiction, where the protagonists go through tough survival situations, just like the author, conveniently imparting outdoor skills and knowledge to the reader along the way. I have to say though, they do take questionable risks at times, which in a 'real life' situation one would probably not undertake, for instance scaling cliff faces without proper equipment instead of taking the longer but more circuitous route. Of course, Grylls had to put in exciting bits for a sense of adventure in his books, just like on his show, no matter if they are probably not the most sensible things to do.

This last book in the series took place in the Himalayas, one of my personal favorite outdoor destinations, with its varied habitat and terrain owing to the changing elevation, from lowland jungle through temperate woodland to alpine and sheer rock and ice at the very top. Many lessons to be had on how to navigate safely and find the essential food, water and shelter while avoiding natural hazards, whether dangerous wildlife, rock falls or flash floods. If one can forgive the mostly nonsensical plot and just enjoy the ride, this book can be surprisingly entertaining.

This book is about a 14-year-old boy called Beck Granger, who is a survival expert. Him and his friend, James Blake, work together to bring down James' granddad, Edwin Blake, and the company he owns, called LUMOS. LUMOS is an energy company which mostly invests as little money as possible in exploiting its plans, and it doesn't care if it damages the environment. My favourite part is the last one, in which they sneak into Edwin's personal apartment, get the evidence, get caught by Edwin, then escape. In the process of escaping, Beck takes a plane off all by himself! Then, they have to abandon the plane. Beck's my favourite character. Explosive adventure! I loved it.

This was a really enjoyable ending to the Beck Granger series of books. This time, Beck is in the Himalayas battling flash floods, snow leopards, black bears, and rock falls, all whilst injured. Will he be able to finally find out the truth behind the deaths of his parents, and will Lumos get their comeuppance at last?
I'm really glad that I read these books. They're great adventure stories for anyone who loves learning more about survival, wildlife, and resilience.

The book was really not what i expected it wasn't that good in my opinion the plot was on a cold snowy mountain which is mount Everest, my favourite part of the story story was when they betray each other and one of them fell down in a creak and I would recommend it only if you like adventurous and thriller.
