It's all change at Otter House as a new vet moves in. Perfect for fans of Katie Fforde and Catherine Alliott.

Motorbike-riding, leather-clad Ross looks like a bad boy, but underneath the leathers, he’s a good-looking charmer and he soon worms way into the hearts of everyone in Talyton St George.

Even vet nurse Shannon warms to him. So when she needs a place to live, it makes sense to move in with Ross. Just as a friend, of course.

As they grapple with escaped snakes and feral cats, their friendship deepens, until they can’t deny their feelings for each other any longer.

I began my working life as a small-animal vet. Like turning the pages in a book, I was never quite sure what was going to happen at the surgery next. From the sausage dog who swallowed a sewing needle to the telly addict of a rabbit who lost an eye to infection, there was never a dull moment.

I have always loved to read, escaping into all kinds of novels during those long nights on call, but I didn’t have much time to pursue writing until after my children were born and I gave up full-time work to look after them. I joined a creative writing group and entered all the writing competitions I could find.

My break into becoming a published author came in 2002 when I was joint winner of the Harry Bowling First Novel Award. At the award ceremony, I met Laura Longrigg of MBA Literary Agents who signed me up on delivery of a finished manuscript.

In April 2003, Laura rang to say that Headline were offering me a two book deal. I had to dial 1471 to check she really had called me and I wasn’t dreaming.

My first novel, Under The Bonnet, was published in November 2004. My second, Our House, was published in 2005, the third, Family Matters in 2006, and the fourth, The Boy Next Door in 2007.

Since then, I’ve been working on an exciting new project, a series of novels about The Otter House Vets, a fictional practice set in a quiet Devonshire market town. Trust Me, I’m a Vet, which will be published in paperback by Arrow Books in April 2010, closely followed by the second book in September 2010.

Since I last updated my website, my menagerie of animals has grown, much to my family’s delight. We now share our lives with two cats, three mad Border Terriers, two ponies and two pet rats which we found abandoned to starve in a cage in the woods nearby. You should have heard my husband’s sigh of resignation when I told him we were bringing them home!

Just in time for the upcoming Holidays – love is in the air! Change is underway at the Otter House clinic when a new vet moves in. The ninth installment of bestselling author, Cathy Woodman’s, Talyton St. George series, ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE (Pegasus Books) introduces two country vets who find themselves dealing with feral cats, escaped snakes, and a blossoming friendship. Motorbike-riding, leather-clad, Ross looks like a bad boy, but underneath the leather, he’s a good-looking charmer, and he soon wins over the hearts of everyone in the village.

Even vet nurse Shannon warms up to him. So when she finds herself in a jam and in need of a place to live, it makes sense she moves in with Ross – just as friends, of course. As they continue to deal with the trials and tribulations of escaped snakes and feral cats, their friendship deepens, until they can’t deny their feelings for each other any longer.

But when a terrible accident leaves Shannon’s life in upheaval, it changes their relationship forever. How is she ever going to know whether Ross is staying with her out of love or out of pity?

I love a book full of drama, romance, animals and that keeps you wanting more throughout. This was an interesting read for me from start to finish that did keep me guessing at times.

Shannon is the vet nurse. Ross is not in for an easy ride with her. She knows her own mind and is highly likeable. You know she is going to be involved in an accident I did not guess what type of accident.

Ross is the new vet. He is not what I was expecting. He was much more loyal and loving than I would have guessed. How he kept coming back when he was pushed away just made me love him more.

I was rooting for Shannon and Ross as they were both fantastic characters who were very well suited.

Easily a five star read.

"Vets on Call" is already the 9th book in Talyton St George series. I read only one of the stories in the series, and it was also my only one by Cathy Woodman, and I remember I liked it but it didn't blow my mind away. Nevertheless, after reading "Vets on Call" I will make sure to read as many books by this author as possible, as I just fell in love with this one - there is an incredible warmth to it, an overwhelming feel - good factor, and I didn't want to put this book down for a second, as I didn't want to leave Talyton and its residents.

I liked Shannon from the very beginning to the end, with all her moods. There was only one moment that I found myself frowning at her, when she became so obsessive and jealous about Ross, not trusting him at all. But apart from this small hiccup, she was incredibly believable, friendly, hard - working girl. Her reactions to everything that happened to her were absolutely believable, and my oh my, how much I kept my fingers crossed for her when the accident happened - I don't want to spoil you the reading by telling you what happened, just let me tell you that something like this happened to me, too, few years ago and till today I have a scar, and I couldn't trust him anymore, so I absolutely understood Shannon's fear of coming back. So there - I said what I wanted to say and didn't reveal too much, right?
And I immediately fell in love with Ross. SWOON. Maybe bikes are not my favourite form of transport but I could turn a blind eye for him. The descriptions of him changing his clothes were sooooo suggestive, mmmm... Let's be honest, who wouldn't fell in love with handsome sex god who knows how to take care of kittens, right? Add to this he is funny, clever and not afraid of telling "I love you" and is able to sacrifice something that he loves most in the world for you.
All the other characters were the perfect addition to the book, they felt not only realistic but they were just popping out of the pages, and thanks to them I just felt so welcomed to their lives, and Cathy Woodman can really brilliantly describe her cast, with all their ups and downs, and the interaction between them was often truly funny, with some of the best - liners that you could imagine. As it is the 9th book in the series, I am sure there were more from the previous books mentioned than I spotted - I have read only "Country Loving" before - but I was so happy and proud of myself to immediately recognize Stevie, and this brief mention of her, even if her short plot was not the happy one, was a real joy for me.

You can see that Cathy Woodman was a vet as her descriptions of the operations, the practice, the illness are so realistic and you could feel that the author absolutely knows what she's talking about. Some may say that there was too much of this vet - slang, too many descriptions of dogs being bathed in a special shampoo or you could read about as many dogs and cats being vaccinated in your life, but well, it is a book about vets, right? It didn't bother me for a second when a new patient came in the practice and required registration to be sedated, which happened almost on every second page - having had many dogs in my life I was a frequent guest by my vet practice and sometimes even considered putting a tent in her garden to spare me the way, so I truly enjoyed the descriptions of the vets' work.

What was very conspicuous was the life of the characters. It couldn't be more ordinary - they went to work, went home, went swimming or rode their bikes, went for walks with their dogs and that was all in fact, but on the other hand, it is a life that most of us are living and leading, right? It's not like that we travel daily around the world, go to the posh restaurants or spend our days on the sunbeds, sunbathing, and it's also not the way the characters in the book lived. But the author managed to describe this normal, quiet, rural life in incredibly engaging, interesting way, and thanks to this normality I guess I liked the heroes even more. They were just like me, they had better and worse days, they didn't want to get up to go to work, they must have to go out with a dog no matter what weather it was, and they had normal problems, just like me and you.

Thanks to the blurb we know that Shannon is going to have a serious accident, and I was subconsciously waiting for something to happen. There were moments that I thought, oh no, it's going to be now, she's going to have this accident now, but when it didn't happen, I found myself sighing with relief. Nevertheless, there was a mishap, and I didn't expect it to be this kind of accident - and my heart went to all involved. I was able to put myself in every person's involved position, because I also had this kind of accident, so I really knew what all of them were feeling.

The book sucked me in immediately, and I was hooked from the very first page. The author can really write engaging story and make it even more perfect with the exceptionally realistic conversations - the dialogues felt really like they were taken from our everyday life. There is a lot of warmth when Cathy writes about animals and their treatment, and the feelings of their owners felt also so real, both their joy and sadness. And oh my gosh, how could I forget it? At the beginning of the book there is a map - a wonderful map of Talyton St George and its surroundings, and there could be nothing better than a good map in a book for me - and this one was so gorgeous, and while reading the story I often went back to it, only to see where I am now.

The every single sub - plot in the novel was a great addition to the whole story and was a great joy to read, no matter if it was about found rabbits, looking for kittens in a barn, Shannon's mum new affair or the local fairs and judging the competition, they all created an incredibly warm, interesting, believable story. I totally adored the love thread that developed in the book because it also felt absolutely natural, not too forced, not too pushy, not too long, not too slow, and Shannon and Ross reactions were so true.

Altogether, "Vets on Call" makes a brilliant, engaging story that is told in an absolutely hooking and warm way, and you don't want to leave Talyford St George for a single second. This is a beautifully told tale about friendship and love and about fighting your demons and being honest with yourself and your loved ones, and a story with the biggest heart for animals. I have loved every single second I spent reading this book and it left me with a smile on my face, feeling contended and happy. Recommended not only for animals lovers but to all who are in need of cheering up and happy ends.

I'm torn between giving this a 2.8 star or a 3 star rating. I'm honestly torn!

Vets on Call tells the story of Shannon, a veterinary nurse living in the countryside town of Talyton St George. Shannon is pretty content with life until new vet Ross roars up on his motorbike, and ends up claiming her heart. Life is good until a disaster happens and soon Shannon is faced with an ordeal she never imagined.

This is actually the ninth book in the Talyton St George series but each book is written in a way that it could be read as a stand alone novel. I've never read any of the other books so this was my first Cathy Woodman tale. At first, the title was what made me pick it up in the library, vets yes, animals yes, love story yes! It had all the ingredients, however..I found it a little bit boring.

While the town is beautiful and some where I'd like to live, it is common in that it has all its odd assortment of various big and small characters. I felt like these characters were overly described sometimes, and I'm sure they appeared in other books so if they got the same kind of description in each book, I bet that can get very annoying. I also found most of the dialogue in the book a little bit...much? It's almost as if they just said too much and I felt that it seemed unnatural...I don't really know anyone who would really talk in such a way and it threw me off the book.

Also, the life-altering even happened in the last quarter of the book, so there was a really big build up of it happening and then I felt like the event itself and the recovery were slightly rushed. I would have preferred the relationship to have been deeper and progressed better earlier on in the book, there was too much fapping about nothing for a while, and then maybe more time could have been dedicated to the accident. If I come across another book in this series in my library, I'll pick it up but I don't think I'll actively seek it out.

A truly lovely and comfy read , just what I needed after a tough day the day before .
Ross was a great character and I liked the relationship that developed between him and Shannon despite a horrible moment getting in the way for a time.
I love this series , Cathy woodman writes well rounded characters and animals that are chaotic and cute at the same time .

“Vets on call” is the ninth book in the Talyton St George series. Pleased be warned that this book has also been published under the title “Accidentally in Love”.

In this book we catch-up with Shannon the young veterinary nurse at Otter House. After being unlucky in love previously, Shannon is not looking to get involved with another man anytime soon.

New vet Ross arrives with a flourish at Otter House vets clad in motorbike leathers and on a motorbike setting female hearts fluttering in Talyton St George. Will Shannon be able to stay as just good friends or will her heart be lost to Ross?

However, life will change beyond Shannon’s wildest dreams when she has an accident that will mean no one will ever look at her in the same way again.

This a heartwarming story of love, family and the importance of friendship. It is not all fluffiness and love, Shannon has to make some tough and heartbreaking decisions.

Overall, Another great book in this book in this lovely series. Perfect for fans of Katie Fforde, Carole Matthews and the Turnham Malpas series by Rebecca Shaw.

Shannon is a vet nurse for the Otter house in Talyton St. George. She mistakes the new vet for a currier and is embarrassed. Little does she know that is the beginning of her friendship with Ross. They tackle vet problems together like feral cats and loose snakes. They end up moving in together as roommates. Just as they are getting somewhere in their relationship a terrible accident happens. Will their relationship survive?

In an Oyster Shell - A beautiful romance with lots of animals, great if your an animal lover like me.

The Pearls - The title was appropriate for the book. The cover is beautiful. The concept of a vet nurse and a vet striking an unlikely friendship worked really well.

The characters were really great. They were distinctive and well-defined. This was very much a character driven novel and the characters were amazing. They were easy to empathize with and they had plenty of adventures you could follow.

Ok. This one is definitely my favorite in the series. It was really fun to get to catch up with Shannon, all grown-up since the beginning of the series, and Seven. I ADORE Ross- none of the other men of Talyton St. George can hold a candle to him. My heart broke over Bandit. I have a soft spot for 13-year-old dogs... And, though there was plenty of foreshadowing, I honestly did not expect the author to go THERE, like that! Her books usually come with a be-all-end-all disaster for whichever couple, but... wow!

This charming romance features veterinarian and a vet nurse and a host of animals. What could be better? There's more smoldering and lots of misunderstandings rather than steamy sex, then again, Woodman really writes about the pets these docs and nurses treat each day.

If you like Herriot, you'll love this series.

My only complaint is that the beginning of the book was very slow. However after we meet Ross I couldn’t put the book down. The romance build up was 10/10 and the unexpected turn made my heart hurt. Overall a sad spicy romance that filled me with so many emotions I didn’t know I had.

Best-selling author Cathy Woodman continues her enchanting and engrossing series set in the picturesque town of Talyton St George with the latest captivating stand-alone installment, Vets on Call.

Shannon loves her job as a veterinary nurse. The former teenage tearaway had stopped causing mayhem and decided to roll up her sleeves and buckle down to her studies to achieve her dream of working at Otter House, the village’s veterinary practice. With a challenging job, a busy social life and a skittish mother to look after, Shannon has got a lot on her plate – she certainly does not want or need a man in her life. After deciding that she was better off as friends with her ex Mitch, Shannon is not looking for love – and even if she were, she certainly would not even dare contemplate a relationship with Otter House’s newest vet, Ross. However, when Shannon’s widowed mother begins dating local estate agent, Godfrey, she begins to grow weary of playing gooseberry. The flat above her mother’s florist shop that used to be spacious and comfortable begins to feel cramped and confining to Shannon and the sassy nurse realises that the time has come for her to move out and get a place of her own. But with property being rather thin on the ground at Talyton St George – and way out of her price range! – Shannon comes to the conclusion that renting is the only way she will ever get out from under her mother’s feet. And as it happens, Ross is also on the lookout for a place of his own…

Having grown up in a family of vets, Ross had always known that he was going to end up following in his parents’ footsteps and he had never envisaged working anywhere other than in his parents’ practice – until an acrimonious argument led Ross to pack up his stuff and leave London and everything that was familiar to him behind for a fresh challenge in Talyton St George. Ross had vowed never to go back to London ever again and to make the most of his new job working as a country vet in a rural practice. However, Ross cannot deny that they do things differently in the country – nor can he deny the fact that he is attracted to feisty vet nurse, Shannon, who does not seem to want to have anything to do with him!

Shannon is initially taken aback by Ross’ brusqueness and curt manner, but the more time she spends with him, the more she realises that there is more to the sexy vet than meets the eye. Their professional relationship quickly gives way to something more, but when a terrible twist of fate threatens their fledgling bond, are Ross and Shannon ready to fight for this unexpected chance at happiness? Or will they let fear and a reluctance to put their heart on the line get in the way of the best thing that’s ever happened to them?

Cathy Woodman writes the kind of books that you just cannot stop reading and Vets on Call is another warm-hearted, charming, compelling and highly enjoyable tale of romance, family and friends that sparkles with humour, pathos and emotion. Peopled with characters you just cannot help but care about and set in a beautifully idyllic village that you’d love to call home, Vets on Call exquisitely balances light-hearted fun with intense and compelling drama that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

A first-rate tale that will touch your heart and tickle your funny bone, Vets on Call is another must-read by the fabulous Cathy Woodman!

I have not read any of the Talyton St George books but I liked this one . It was a nice easy read with a bit of drama and a love story thrown in. Lots of cute cats and dogs and one or two not so nice. Cuddly baby bunnies , what's not to like . Good bed time read and if I come across any more books in the series I expect I'll read them.

This book in the Talyton St George series is about Shannon, Otter House's Veterinary Nurse. Shannon has been in the series from book 1so it's great she has a book all about her.
She's been unlucky in love in the past, can she find love with the new Vet? With her Mum's new partner moving into Petals it becomes a bit crowded, there is a solution but can it work?
There is a big twist 3/4 of the way through the story which has a big impact on everyone's lives. The issue which causes the twist shows the not so nice side of Veterinary practice and is dealt with really well by the author.
All in all another great book in the series, I shall be sad when the series ends. Grab a blanket and a cup of tea and settle down with this rather good book, perfect for a cold, Winter's afternoon.
