Some of the points made were interesting, but overall I found it a bit simplistic. However I must admit that I felt more optimistic at the end of the book than I did at the beginning.
Not overly impressed with the text of the book - too short - not enough explanations and it could have done without the journal at the back to pad it out. The reason this book gets 4 stars is the Havening technique. I was going through a major stress crisis at work and I needed something fast. I hadn't started the book, I had no idea of what it was, but I put on the DVD and clicked on the Havening technique. It's totally weird - but it works! Logically, it should never work, it's just stupid - but it does. It took my stress levels down from "I can barely function" panic and stress to "I'm OK", not great, but OK. That process alone is worth the cost of the book.
I then tried it out on something else. It also worked. In using the Law of Attraction(LOA), you need to detach from the outcome. So I used the havening technique to detach from the outcome. I still get flashes of "I need, I need!", but they are not as pressing and they don't overwhelm me. OK, not entirely convinced that LOA works (still slightly hopeful), but living without the stress of wanting something too much - always a good thing.
The other exercises I have done once - not as good - but I'll go back to them later.
This was my first "self help" book and I feel like you're either really susceptible to this kind of book or you aren't, unfortunately I'm the latter. A few good points on there but guess it was just common sense really about changing your mindset to a more positive one. If you are quite a pessimist anyway I feel you won't really buy anything this book is trying to sell.
You can read this book in a few days and he gives you a bit of knowledge about .. you can do better and you can use some tools for it .. and that's it ..
Incredibly valuable. I have done all the exercises which have helped a lot. I have got into the world of hypnosis, self healing, and much more. Very grateful.
This was a relatively short and easy read, but a powerful one. The chapters explain the techniques McKenna will use with the reader, interspersed with some short (5-15 minute) exercises for the reader to undertake as they go through the book.
I've been a convert to Paul McKenna's books and audio for some time, but this book mixes on some techniques that McKenna has used before -- most notable "Big Mind" (which will be familiar to anyone who has listened to some of his audio from the past few years) -- with a new technique, Havening.
Havening is a technique used to help people overcome trauma's and long-standing psychological issues. McKenna explains the background of the technique and shares some intriguing case studies of how it can be used to help people.
The audio/videos included both as CD/DVD's and downloads (via a code included in the book) are well done and there's a 28-day journal template for you to implement the techniques you've learned to good effect.
I suspect that, as with all McKenna's books, I'll return to this again and again until some of the techniques shared within it become habit for me. Previous experience tells me they'll be of benefit when used consistently.
I really love Paul mckennas work. Some of this book felt like a re-write of some of his earlier work, maybe refined a little. The havening technique is a totally new one though and seems to work. I like the way Paul explains his research and work with other people, he never claims to have totally developed the techniques himself, but offers his readers his version of he techniques.
Paul's voice is incredibly soothing and it's almost worth buying the book just to listen to him on the CD!
I like Paul's clear and concise writing style and he is a brilliant advocate for NLP. The addition of a DVD and CD in the pack, plus links to extra tools is not only a great marketing idea, they are practical. Another great book Paul! Congrats!
