Hiding Hollywood

Rate this book
A sweet, romantic comedy about betrayal, gossip and being star struck

Andi Carrington has a problem. And everyone’s reading about it.

She has a torn Achilles tendon, her business is under financial stress and she’s suddenly being blamed by the world’s media for breaking up the marriage of one of Hollywood’s leading men.

It’d be different if it was true, because ironically, Rush Dawson is the heartthrob she’d most like to run away to a deserted island with, but Rush has stolen her image, blackened her name and violated her privacy.

And then he tells her a story, and Andi has a new problem—falling in love with him.

Ainslie Paton

Ainslie Paton always wanted to write stories to make people smile, but the need to eat, accumulate books, and have bedclothes to read under was ever present. She sold out, and worked as a flack, a suit, and a creative, ghosting for business leaders, rabble-rousers, and politicians, and making words happen for companies, governments, causes, conditions, high-profile CEOs, low-profile celebs, and the occasional misguided royal. She still does that. She also writes for love and so she can buy shoes, and the good cat food.

This was my third Paton in a relatively short time. It reminds me why I shouldn't glom.

As always, unique characters/situations/locales. There are no doctors, lawyers, "project managers" in Ms. Paton's worlds.

The descriptors, as always, are evocative of place and state of mind. Well, okay. One descriptor was a bit revolting. A certain something was described as the "shape of nausea." I still have no idea what that means.

Again, editing issues, punctuation issues were ever present. For some reason declarative statements ended in a question mark many times. Of course, sometimes the interrogative declarative sentenced (oxymoron, no?) was preceded or followed by an actual interrogative and guess what???? You got it, a period was used as ending punctuation.

Okay. That's the general Paton feel.

I do enjoy Paton's books. I do, I do, I do. But this one, some of the situations were just OTT. No spoilers but...there was a situation where a building burned, burned almost to the ground. Because of this fire, certain situations were allowed to happen in the book, very much a plot device. But how this situation was handled, umm, no. There is no realistic way any of the subsequent situations could have happened. I had a really hard time reading the book while simultaneously rolling my eyes.
And then, there was a big MIS. But wait, was it really that big? Apparently not. There was a big big MIS buildup, our heroine seemed to think it was a big deal, but then, no not really. Again, I was left a bit confused at actions and reactions.

So why three stars with all these issues? I just love her writing. She makes me want to glom against my better judgment. She makes me want to turn the page, even while rolling my eyes, I do it quickly so I can get right back to it.

I never laughed out loud as much as I did while reading this book!

Andie is our female lead who works with her partner Michael in a PR firm located in Syndy

Andie has fancied herself in love with Michael for many years. He is an always has been her best friend.

She convinces Michael to go alone on a much needed R&R vacation. She promises to hold down the fort for two weeks between Christmas an New Years Eve.

Andie gets a last minute call to from s high profile Studio to set up and provide housing, entertainment, meals an anominity for three high profile men.

She meets

Shane the crazy wild rock start & actor.

Arch the seductive, sensitive, extremely hot rock star.

Rush the married, tempormental, and hot hot hot rock star and actor.

What she gets are three buddies looking for trouble.
They have an agenda that goes against everything she has been told.

This is a wonderfully written, laugh out loud book.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book, but the huge number of typos bothered me enough to drop its rating. I can handle the questionable punctuation in the dialogue, but all of the other errors drove me nuts.

The first quarter of the book had me confused about where the book was going, so I admit to taking a peek at the end. Since I was very intrigued by the ending and how they'd get to that point, I kept going and found the story to be very enjoyable. Although I found some of the plot unbelievable (why not just record Cecily's phone calls?), I was able to just go with it as it set up some interesting choices and actions by the characters. Overall, this was a fun read, but one which could be vastly improved with better editing.

I liked some of the humour, I liked the setting, but I just... I couldn't figure out the conflict between the MCs. I mean, the initial conflict?!? I would have walked out. I think there's potential for a really interesting conflict for the female MC if she was struggling between her career aspirations and her justifiable outrage, but I really didn't feel that. I think the Hero's initial transgression, and then a similar follow-up, were huge. The heroine was angry, sure, but I would have been WAY angrier.

But then later on, when the hero was trying to make it up to her, I felt like she got too angry over tiny little blips. It felt like she was mad because the plot needed her to be, rather than because of anything actually organic to the characters.

I know my romance fiction and this book ticked all my boxes. Set in
Australia which was great because that's home for me and it made it very
fresh.

But of course it's actually about three Hollywood stars two of whom are
also rock stars and the woman who is being paid to help them make a secret
trip to Sydney.

They almost get away with it almost and the fun is how it comes
unravelled and the stress it puts on the leading lady.

One of the best things was the ensemble of characters and their dialogue.
It was one of those stores where you just weren't sure which way the heroine
should jump, but you knew she had plenty of good options

Story line was really good, and LOVED the 3 main male characters, but the h's attitude towards the H drove me nuts. I understood at first why she was mad at him, but then she just kept getting mad at him and not letting him explain, and when she did let him explain she thought he was lying or just wanting to bed her, even after his friends telling her she was wrong. just the things she kept thinking about him and her were very irritating. and no sex scenes.

- superficial relationship development
- nice story - dull interactions
- nice characters - flat emotions
I had to read the last 30% first to build up enough patience to read the first 70% of the book. But I read it just because I want to finish it and I really thought it could turn out an exciting reading. Not so...

Loved it! This line is a good sum up. I only wish they were having a sleep over at my house and I got to mind them!
“And there we were. A dog with a bucket on his head, a playboy/athlete, a hero/action man, a thespian/diplomat and me and we were all having a sleep over at my house.” Fab.

This book had a really good plot.I have just seen the video that goes along with this book and I couldn't help smiling.I don't even know how I would have managed staying with 3 handsome blokes without falling into temptation haha.To me Andie was resilient, sweet and very stubborn. And the men Arch,Shane and Rush were very interesting characters. All unique in their own ways, all wanting Andie..interesting.All good people who have just been tainted with all the baggage that Hollywood carries along with it.The vacation, the setting, the hospitality of the small town, everything about this book was fabulous.Ohh...loved the music playlist Ainslie Paton used for the book.

Couldn't put this one down!

A funny fantastic story that had me laughing on the bus and getting weird looks from fellow passengers. Hard pressed to know which of the three friends had the edge but realized they were all drop dead wonderful. I really hope Ainslie does follow up books on Shane and Arch they definitely deserve their happy endings. This is a great book definitely in my absolute favorites folder.

Like the description says, this book is very sweet. I'd go so far as to say it's over-the-top sweet... Hollywood's hottest hunks all fall in love with one absolutely mundane Australian woman? If you want to escape to a fantasy world, this book is a great choice for you!

As other reviewers noted, some minor punctuation issues that can prove distracting.

Nggak suka karakter pemeran ceweknya. Romansanya kurang. Sama sekali nggak bikin deg-degan atau merinding. Semakin ke belakang cerita makin nggak menarik. Membosankan.
