3.5 Stars ~ I'm very glad that Bellann Summer decided to continue her 'Rescue for Hire' series after telling the stories of the five original members. At the end of book five, Cade and the rest of the team decided on a plan that keeps the company going but gives options to those members who might want to break away from actual rescue work in favor of teaching and/or training. Some of the men started families and others were thinking about it, so I thought their plan was a great one. Plus, of course, it insured I'd have more books to read. *grins*

I'm so glad I'm no longer young and stupid. Cade calls Pete and asks if he can help out with flying him and Gabriel, the team's new medic, to rescue a lost teenager who thought he could be Bear Grylls for a weekend. *snort* Pete has just come back from his dad's funeral and the rest of the team is in Minnesota helping rescue people from floodwaters. I didn't know a lot about Pete except he'd worked for Damien for the last five years and lived in an apartment above the hangar. Damien had referenced a history of abuse by the father but other than that I was meeting Pete for the first time.

Gabriel has spent the last eight years as a field medic on the front lines and he has seen more than his share of suffering. He's very excited to get the job with Rescue for Hire as Jack is going to be occupied with teaching and training. Gabriel is intrigued by Pete but it doesn't take long until he recognizes the signs of an abuse victim and knows he's got his work cut out for him. It doesn't help that Pete is positive he'll never trust anyone and certainly not a man. Not after what he went through at his dad and uncle's hands.

Such a sweet and loving addition. I did think Pete was a little quick to trust and fall in love with Gabriel, but they were so wonderful together I didn't mind. I can say I was somewhat surprised by a few of the revelations near the end but as usual, the family of Rescue for Hire came through for one of their own. I was very happy to see Pete get the life and love he so desperately needed, and to get a little justice too. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.

Book 6), and I think there is more in this "Rescue for Hire" series. Next is "Rescue for Hire West". Here we have Pete, pilot who works for Damian, and Gabriel, who is the new field medic. We open with his arrival and a rescue of a teen mauled by a bear.

Deep thought-filled richly woven characters are in every story, so I recommend reading them in order, but they could stand alone. A lot happens in this short story, so be ready for rescues, understanding, secrets revealed, acceptance, closure, and new found true love.

Gabriel wants Pete right away, and figures out that he's been abused. Pete's dad has died and the uncle is out to keep Pete from getting the land they are drug dealing from.

Together they hope to forge on, they talk of dreams and a future.

This series is full of action and excitement, the stories are short, maybe 1 1/2 hours each. I love these people, plus it's fun seeing the other guys and the progress they've made.

Highly recommend ! ENJOY !!!

Pete has been abused for a lot of his life, but what does Gabriel do when Pete does something Gabriel doesn't like? Spanks his ass. Doesn't talk about it or anything, just throws Pete over his knee and spanks him. I am sorry, but NO! He's been hit enough he doesn't need some "macho man" doing it to him without even speaking to him first. I cringed during that scene. So wrong.

Approx 86 pages of story. Gabriel a new hire as a field medic for the guys at Rescue for hire, and Pete, the second pilot for rescue for hire. Great to catch up with the guys from Rescue for hire again.
Crazy Angle Ranch, Rescue for Hire, Granite County and Rescue for Hire West are all connected.

The writing has improved hugely. (Even if the editing hasn’t. “Had went” and similar grammatical constructions really seem to be a thing among several authors. Either that or we have one rogue editor.)
For one thing viewpoints are finally (mostly) separate, which helps a lot with immersion. But also the line-up of scenes feels significantly more lively than summary now. I particularly like the way those phone calls are inserted, as pure dialogue.
That is not to say everything’s perfect (why is the first kiss a flashback that happens immediately afterwards?), but overall the narrative feels much more solid.

As for the story itself? Yet again it’s hurt/comfort, or more specifically coaxing an abuse victim into trusting again. And that theme is also developed in a more appealing (to me) way than it was in the last few books, with two likeable characters.
That said, I still was grinding my teeth when it came to the . Yes, I get the point the author was hammering home. But it’s still utterly wrong to start . Not acceptable.

And even after that was “resolved”, Pete had to turn TSTL, despite being aware he was being an idiot, just so we could have the requisite injury and rescue part. (That bit hardly counts as a spoiler; does it?)
Well, at least Treb is still being his cool self. That mollifies me.

Not sure what to do about the setup for the next book, since that one points to a spin-off series, while another book continues this series. So which should I read first?

I enjoyed this edition. I think the author could have given a bit more attention to action. But, I know this series is romance heavy. At any rate, I found the dynamics between the 2 heroes not as intense as the others. At any rate, this was a decent feel good read. On to book 7
