The more Guren and Shinya appear, the more I want Guren's books, and the more I ship them.

We know the basics about Guren's story but I need so much more.

I ship the hell out of Gurenshi. I just want to see more of them.

I can't wait for those Light Novels.

Yuu with his sword, his Cursed Gear, is just the sexiest thing!!! *-*

Much of why I'm giving this volume five stars as opposed to the usual four is because I love the setup for this next arc. The line of good and evil between humans and vampires continues to blur even further as new things come to light, Guren and Kureto are set up against each other over who is better/worse than the other (I don't like either of them, but the franchise promises later redemption, which I guess I'll take), and I enjoyed seeing Yu and Kimizuki go up against the demons in their Cursed Gear to fully earn their trust.

Plus, Shinoa has two great moments where she trolls the entire part of the fanbase that ships both of the boys I mentioned above and I LIVED.

"Just because someone in your family betrays you (...) does that mean you have to betray them back?
I don't...think it works that way."

That ending was lovely :')

I am starting to love this team a little bit more <3

And Yuu was AMAZING here.

I wanted more Mika...but is okay :)

That ending worthed it.

Yuu's last speech made my heart so warm.

Can't wait to read the next one :D

altri punti importanti saltati:

I really enjoyed this volume. It gave some much needed spoilers but still kept the mystery of the importance of them. I think the author's long note at the end is a highlight of each volume. He's a great author and explains the upcoming arc in a way that excites the reader.

This volume includes several very intriguing storylines. First we get to see Yu and Kimizuki formally make their bonds with their demons, which reveals a lot about their characters and back-stories. Second, we get to spend some time with Mika, seeing his struggle to avoid drinking human blood, and learn that Krul told him why she didn’t allow him or Yu to be killed (though we don’t hear that secret yet). Third, we find out more about the political conflicts within both the vampire and human worlds – conflicts that explain why the Seraphs are so valuable.
Other notes: Ferid is such a pervy creep*. But then…what else is new? And Shinoa, maybe you should stop making gay jokes about Kimizuki and take a closer look at your crush and his Mika obsession, hmm?

*For example, suggesting that Mika should just go ahead and become a full vampire so he can be his best-looking age forever. Which is 16. Umm…hello, FBI?

Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously!):
- Asuramaru tries to break Yu by digging up his darkest memory, which is his parents calling him a demon and trying to kill him. I love that the reason it doesn’t work is because Yu knows that Mika, the first person to make him feel wanted, now needs his help. Therefore, even if he is a monster, he still has a reason to live. And, auugh, the tender little finger-entwining touch as he reaches out to phantom-Mika!
- Asuramaru being very confused by this, and even more confused when Yu refuses to attack them – the normal way of taming a demon – and instead asks them to be his friend. Yu’s reasoning: “being alone sucks, right? Not being loved by anyone also sucks. I know that all too well.” And it works!
- As mentioned, Ferid is a creep…but I think he’s totally spot on when he suggests that Mika is refusing to drink human blood because he’s afraid that Yu would hate him. Aww, Mika, honey…it’ll be OK, I promise!
- It is so intriguing that both Ferid and Krul want Mika to go find Yu, for their own purposes - as does Guren with regard to Yu finding Mika, probably! But Mika is a lot smarter than Yu. He is going to take this opportunity, but is absolutely not going to give Yu back to the vampires!

So I read volume 5 yesterday, and 6 today. Not really intentional or anything, but I’ve acquired volume 5, 6, and 7 at the same time so I’m trying to read them back to back. Speaking of, I need to get ahold of volume 8 because I’ll definitely be done with 7 sometime tomorrow. But enough about me.

Now, where do I start? I think Yu was out by the beginning of the volume, if I remember correctly. Crazy how my memory is foggy when I just finished reading this 30 minutes ago. So he’s having some sort of internal battle with Asuramaru (whom I truly adore), and after Asuramaru attempts to take over Yu’s body and drink his blood, Yu pulls through as he usually does, through the power of family! That sounded incredibly cringey, but that’s really what happened. Even if Yu was sinking in a gutter somewhere, one memory of Mika and he’d fly straight up! I’m really starting to question this supposed “family” bond they share, because I don’t feel flustered when I think about my own family members. I mean, remember when they saw each other again? It was like a scene straight out of Romeo and Juliet, especially with the stabbing and all! Truly a wondrous scene. I can go on and on about the chemistry they share, and I’ll bet you Mika actually does share romantic feelings for Yu. Somehow it just feels like he might. Yu, again, is a blockhead when it comes to romance. Either way, no matter what your favorite ship is, Shinoa, Mitsuba AND Mika will not be considered as suitable candidates anytime soon. They will forever be “family-zoned”. But in terms of Yu & Mika, can you blame me for shipping them? The author basically wants me to at this point! Like please, I’ve always been weak for the male friendship trope, even more so when it’s a friendship as deep as this one. I will stop talking now.

Guys, I am falling deeply and more deeply in love with Kimizuki. Like it’s past love by now… because OH MY GOSH HE IS JUST SO CUTE! Can I tell you how I felt when he threw that blanket over the passed-out Yu? First and foremost, I shipped it. Second, I wished more than anything in the world THAT I WAS YU. Like please, I will kill for a man who would care to throw a blanket on me when I’m sleeping. IT PULLED RIGHT AT MY HEARTSTRINGS! I’m just so into the tsundere types like Kimizuki. He acts like he’s all tough and cocky, but he’s so freaking warm-hearted it makes me question my sanity for falling for a manga character! Never mind about shipping him with Yu, because KIMIZUKI’S MINE! Ignoring that outburst, we learn about Kimizuki’s past and his devotion to curing his sister. Apparently, he was urged by some “friends???” to kill her because her sickness was burdening him. He is enraged and gets into a big fight with them, and they reveal that she asked it of them because she doesn’t have the strength to kill herself, but she doesn’t want to continue burdening the mature yet unbelievably young older brother Kimizuki was at the time. Like, AW. MY HEART. MY TEARS. POOR KIMIZUKI! BEING URGED BY HIS OWN LITTLE SISTER TO KILL HER! Of course he does not though! The reason he has this flashback is because like what was happening with Yu, Kimizuki’s demon is trying to take over his body. It doesn’t work, because he’s never thought of his sister as a burden, and he eventually overpowers the demon and subdues it. SLAY KIMIZUKI. Excuse me, my little sister’s middle-schoolish manner of talking is rubbing off on me. This paragraph was a long way of telling you all that I really love Kimizuki, and why you should too.

Shinoa… she’s just annoying. So is Mitsuba to be honest. Is it weird that I’m not fond of the female characters in this story? Besides Krul because she’s badass? I mean so far the characterization has been great, but oh does Shinoa piss me off. Still, I loved when her and Mitsuba were making fun of/shipping Yu and Kimizuki after he covered Yu with the blanket. They brought out my inner fangirl and I love them a little more because of it. Also, they allowed me a chance to see flustered Kimizuki! Never mind, I LOVE THEM! But Shinoa needs to drop the lame jokes sometimes. But I still thought it was hilarious when she and Mitsuba announced to everyone that Kimizuki swings for the other team! HAHAHA. He was murderous at this moment. I guess I have a love-hate relationship with the female characters in this series. I will admit they are necessary characters and I still like the story better with them than without. I know I’m being super bipolar right now but let’s just conclude that that’s how I feel about them.

Guren. Do we trust him? Well, he’s hot and he seems to be a much better option than that crusty Hiragi guy. We’re sticking with Guren for now. Plus he’s hot. Moving on—

Mika. Oh, Mika. He’s thirsting for human blood as usual. Apparently, he still ages because his refusal to drink human blood means he is not fully a vampire, so he technically is not immortal yet. Well, he needs to drink some soon yet. I do understand why he wouldn’t want to. He’s scared Yu will hate him, but I can tell Yu doesn’t give a single shit what Mika is. He just loves him anyway. You can judge for yourself what kind love it is. Another thing though… Mika is super attractive. Like HELLA attractive. I don’t know who’s illustrating this series but they need a raise, seriously. God bless them and their hands. But in terms of the blood thirst, you know what we need? That one scene in the anime. If you know, you know. If you don’t, you don’t. ANYWAY, Mika kinda pounces on Krul because he is starved. For blood, in case that wasn’t clear. She forgives him for it. We also learn that Ferid and Krul are kinda beefing. And we learn that Krul may be using the Hyakuya family in some way since she didn’t kill them when she was supposed to. When Mika learns of this, he warns her not to touch Yu. She responds by reminding Mika just how powerless he is, especially when he depends on her for blood. He is put in his place, but she seems to urge him to rescue Yu and makes him believe she cares about Yu as well as him in some way. I’m not buying it, but whatever. Krul’s a badass and I love her. Definitely do not ship her with Mika, but I love her. She said herself that she’s like a mother to Mika, so I hope the ship dies there. I am not for this ship.

Mika still wants to rescue his beloved Yu. Yu wants to rescue his beloved Mika, and holds on with thoughts of him. What will become of these two idiots?

I think its fair to say Seraph of the End is a "chunky" read. It has explosive volumes like volume 4 and in between its explosive climaxes are stretches of more dialogue and setup-heavy chapters that remain interesting. This is another one of those heavier volumes.
The first half focuses on the cursed gear of both Yu and Kimizuki. I really enjoyed the first half as it is neat to get more glimpses of both characters to learn more about them both. However it also introduces
The cursed gear moments are really great. They're part character examination as the individual talks to their demon and also part character backstory It also creates an atmospheric breather from the rest of the dreary post-apocalypse setting with its dreamy set dressing.
The second half is more varied and covers both the human and the vampire side as Both sides face internal power struggles that complicate and raise intrigue. The vampire side is super interesting as we get to see a more flustered and weaker side of Krul as The human side is still interest as well but feels more like a solidification of what is already there as it continues to remind and develop on plot points such as
I still have a lingering want for less dialogue. Idk, I was just expecting more action from this series. I'm not really minding it as we're getting neat development but some more big action would be nice. We get snippets of fights but nothing major or standout. There was a really cool which I wished was more than its quick and abrupt early ending.

Yuichirou and Kimizuki try to communicate with their demons to get more power out of them, not that it’s easy for either the Cursed Gear wielder or the demons themselves. Yuichirou finds out a little more about Asumaru, even as he and his weapon grapple with each other for dominance. He and Kimizuki reach an understanding with Asumaru and Kiseki-o just in the nick of time, for the leaders of the vampires and the Imperial Demon Army are both plotting something big, to bring an end to everything. These plots involve Mika, Yu, and everyone Yu cares about, dragging them into murky, manipulative waters. Amidst all of this, where will Shinoa and her team stand?

Many revelations were dropped in this, including how both Krul Tepes and Ferid Bathory are each playing their own game, which differs from the machinations of the Vampire Progenitor Council. Krul asserts to her dominance over Mika while assuring him of her support in his own scheme to get Yu away from vampires and humans alike. Ferid appears to be trying to draw both Krul and Mika into his game, but are his interests really hers? On the Demon Imperial Army side, Kureto Hiragi hatches plots of his own, trying to draw Guren Ichinose into them. Shinoa and Mitsuba are attempting to make their team aware of the dangers within the upper ranks of their organization while helping them to grow stronger, all the while lightening the mood by teasing said teammates (I loved Shinoa and Mitsu’s moment of yaoi, roleplaying Kimizuki and Yu, while getting all lovey-dovey with each other), plus their unintentional moment of comedy when they tried to cook, resulting in Kimizuki showing them both up. More was uncovered about the Cursed Gear during Yu’s intense altercation with Asumaru, which included some surprisingly sweet moments. Equally intense was Kimizuki’s confrontation with Kiseki-o, where both grew in power and strength. Some of my favourite scenes involved Ferid Bathory being enigmatic and playful in a sly power play. I read with bated breath, chortling, while Ferid similtaneously confronted and flirted with Krul, all the while groping Mika. There’s never a boring panel with that character…I’d have to agree with Crowley. :)= For all of these intriguing details, depicted exquisitely, and drawn into an engrossing whole, I give this four stars.

Yuu is still unconscious during his training to conquer the Demonic weapon. Stuck in in his sub conscience, the boy talks with Asuramaru, who use once again, his family to make him crack. We get some flashback of Yuu’s past; his father trying to kill him and the promise he made to Mika. He manages to make a deal with the Demon and finally wake up.

It Kimizuki’s turn next, and things do not go well at first. The young man relives past memories about his sister that get twisted by the demon. Maybe he should have killed her all along since she is dead weight because of her illness. He finally gets the upper hand and acquired the power of his weapon.

Yuu, Kimizuki & Yochi have now complete a part of their training and have become Lieutnant Guren’s “special soldiers”, whatever that means…

Next chapter focus on Mika, who is still suffering from blood lust. The vampire Noble meets to discuss what happen during Shinjuku battle, and I still have no idea what “The Seraph of the End” is. Lady Krull pretend to have kill all the children that have been experiment on. But we know that this is a lie since Yuu and Mika are still alive. I really like the Vamp Queen and wonder what her agenda is. She orders Mika to go save Yuu and hide from the humans and other vampires.

Shinoa’s team meet up to discuss about Lieutnant Guren’s allegiances. There are not sure where his loyalties lie, but he is considered family. Meanwhile, the Colonel meet with General Kureto, (who I still hate BTW), to discuss war stratagems. The General is sending the Demon Army on a suicide mission to Nagoya, to attract the Vampire Nobles and get rid of them. Yet, that sound promising and not dangerous at all….

Seraph of the End Volume 6 delivers another strong entry in the series, diving deeper into the darker side of power and pushing the story closer to an inevitable war. What stood out most in this volume was the focus on Yu and Kimizuki’s cursed gear—specifically what it means to be possession-type users. We get a clearer look at the internal battles they have to face, and just how dangerous it is to use this kind of power. The cursed gear isn’t just a weapon—it’s a gamble, and that added depth made the stakes feel so much higher.

The scenes exploring the spiritual and emotional cost of using cursed gear were some of the most compelling yet. Watching Yu struggle to maintain control while confronting his own trauma and rage gives even more weight to his character arc. The same goes for Kimizuki, who gets some well-deserved focus here as he confronts the risks of his own pact.

Meanwhile, tensions are escalating quickly on both fronts—the vampires are preparing their next move, and the Japanese Imperial Demon Army continues to reveal its harsh, often shady tactics. It’s clear that a major confrontation is brewing, and this volume does a great job of laying the groundwork for what's to come.

The art, once again, is sharp, expressive, and packed with atmosphere. The cursed gear scenes are especially striking—both the physical manifestations and the haunting inner-world visuals that come with possession. Combined with dynamic battle panels and emotional close-ups, the volume is as visually strong as ever.

Overall, Volume 6 is a great mix of character development, world-building, and rising tension. You can feel that we’re heading toward something big, and this volume sets the stage beautifully.

I am choosing to ignore Ferid being a phenomenal asshat for an entire chapter because Yu and Kimizuki fighting their demons (literally and metaphorically) was AWESOME!!! I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I love the demons' designs. Their names are pretty cool, too. It was so sad watching Kimizuki battle with his past and his guilt, but seeing him overcome it by recognizing the bond he has with his squad was super touching. Oh my gosh, almost forgot to mention, the scene where Shinoa and Mitsu act out a romantic scene playing as Kimizuki and Yu respectively, was freaking hilarious! When the series wants to it can be pretty damn funny and that's hands down the funniest scene so far.

Yo, but we have to talk about the short fight Yu and Kimizuki have after their training. The fact that Yu can some a fan of swords was bad-ass, but then Kimizuki's like "bitch please, watch this," and summons a FREAKING COFFIN with something inside (that we don't get to see, unfortunately). It was a short fight but it got me so stoked to see their cursed gear in action later down the line. That scene at the end where everyone agrees to look after family first was super cheesy but so damn cute it made me want to vomit rainbows. The conversation between Kureto and Guren wasn't fun because Kureto is such a jackass but I do like how Guren remains elusive despite the power gap. Guren is a fun character and I love seeing him up against the higher ups because he just has no fucks left and it's wonderful to watch.

So, in conclusion: this was a bad-ass and entertaining volume. Thank you.

Maybe the real Seraph of the End were the friends we made along the way?

In this volume we get more backstory for a couple characters and then more characters not wanting to tell us their secrets. 😔 Then more politics about the human / vampire world, love the lore but very confused! A lot of this volume is building up to the next arc and oooh I feel like it's gonna go off.

The art is so pretty, especially with the scenes of the ruined city. I wish this was a video game so bad actually, it would eat so hard.

Yu and Kimizuki both ✨fighting✨ their demons to further use their cursed gear was so iconic.

The way Yu and the squad talk about how they are family and how he cares about them is very sweet but it's a little much. Like y'all really just met?? That kinda talk needs to be saved for big moments, not just around the breakfast table idk.

Stop I feel so bad for Mika I wanted to cry at 7am. 😭 He hasn't drank any human blood because he doesn't want Yu to be upset but then he has insatiable thirst, fed only by shady ass Krul. It's very suspicious how no one will tell us what is going on and it's even more suspicious how much Krul is like yah go to your boy asap lol. So many schemers smh.

Ferid actually confirmed as a pedo creep and I had a full body shudder🤢. Like ewwww the vibe was already there but he quite literally told Mika that he wasn't too old yet for what he considers the ~most beautiful age~ and was trying to get him to drink human blood to stop aging now. At sixteen.

Mika honey if your boyfriend doesn't come save you, I will okay. ♥️

This volume expanded and showed the process of how cursed gear curses get loosened and more powerful, conveniently Yu & Shiho have possession gears that have unexpected powers and it also expanded on Yu's first memory of the orphanage.

We also see Mika in the vampire capital & feeding on Queen krul tepes, kinda jealous tbh I liked how his desperation for blood was drawn, to be able to feed on someone that way poor dude...

First volume they've named dropped the serph of the end gene as well as the vampire's proclamation of war against humanity and we also got a dribble of the imperial demon army's military ambitions.

They also foreshadow Yu's devil stuff with his hair being spiky in the morning but I only know that because I've read this and future books already plus I watched the anime 10 years ago (RIP)

Yu and Kimizuki get to know their demons, and try and find a working relationship with them without losing themselves. Our four new recruits then meet up and discuss Yu's demon manifestation and whether they can trust Guren. Meanwhile both vampires and the Demon Moon army are planning a big showdown in Nagoya where it looks like Mika and Yu will encounter one another again....

Another excellent volume which doesn't stint on character despite its fairly epic plotline. I really like the bonds forming with our four main protagonists. The scene where Shinoa and Mitsuba parody Kimizuki's relationship with Yu is really fun. Is it me or is nearly everyone obsessed with Yu....

Shinoa, Mitsuba, Kimizuki, Mika take your pick!

At the moment, I'm pretty sure this is the most disappointing volume so far. That's not to say it was bad, I just preferred the previous volumes a lot more. It could be that it's just been a while and so my love for the series has dampened a bit, but I'm not sure.

The volume mainly focuses on the conflict between Yu, Kimizuki and the demons of their gear. This took up, I'd say about half of the volume, and I just didn't enjoy it so much. I'd say the time we spend with the rest of the gang, the vampires and higher-ups was the more interesting part of the volume.

I haven't really got much more to say on this volume, but I do intend to carry on with the series. I have volume eight on my shelf, but I'll have two go about looking for volume 7, which may take a while.

There's a lot of characters with a lot of motivations, some of which aren't very clear. I usually don't mind such ambiguity where the author withholds information, but I'm beginning to get impatient. Six volumes in and 23 chapters later, and I still feel like I'm getting half the story. Don't get me wrong, it's a good story, but I feel it's lacking something. I guess I will have to start reading Guren's light novel series. He is the most confusing and mysterious of all the characters, and I really want to delve into his mind more. And the added backstory it gives to him and other characters will help to make this fantasy world feel more fleshed out.
