In the mystical land of Maeglover, where a prophecy from Archangel Saforus heralds the rise of heroes against encroaching darkness, Garthen, a commander marked by personal tragedy, and Kriegon, a newcomer with his own burdens, lead the charge as Guardians. Garthen, driven by vengeance for his lost family, unites with Kriegon, who seeks meaning in this strange new world. Together with their fellow Guardians—Ellena, Rei, Saphire, and Zenmore—they face their first major test against Mammon and Beelzebub, demonic princes. Their journey is fraught with battles, the complexities of their intertwined fates, and the challenges of leading a diverse group against the ominous threats foretold by the prophecy.
Entering the Fantasy world of Maeglover we are introduced to a prophecy that will unfold through the book! The prologue sets the stage on who we will encounter through the book and reading through the novel makes you want to go back and reference what was put in the prologue. It is well written, the quest of the Guardians is pulled in many different directions. We start by meeting Garthen and he is a guiding force within the group, but he has a vengeance that threatens to overcome him but their new found family keeps him on tasks that make him feel connected until he is faced with his past once again and this motivates him more in the path of vengeance. As we meet Garthen the prophecy is laid out and we meet the other guardians! Zenmore the orc is the strong light hearted teddy bear, Saphire the strong willed quizzical lady, Rei the magical healer bird lady who connects well with the Mage Ryoma, Ellena the sweet youthful and warming cat like woman, and Kreigon the introverted, ready to learn human who has been split into two (Vladimir) by Lucifer. The Archangel Saforus comes down and grants golden slabs which in turns has each guardian’s name on it. They all are weapons given to assist the guardians as they come to fulfill the prophecy. As they enter the realm many plot twists happen but they seem to thwart each attack as a whole. This book will take you through many journeys and will have you gripping your seats as they battle many foes. A wonderful read for those who like trials and journeys! I can’t wait to dive into the next books to come within this world.
“When prophecy awakens and darkness stirs, destiny forges heroes from the ashes of loss.”
📘 Title: The Guardians Trilogy: Rise of Vice ✍️ Author: Chance Fribbs 📝 Review: The Guardians Trilogy: Rise of Vice by Chance Fribbs transports readers into the mystical realm of Maeglover, a world where divine prophecy and mortal courage collide. When Archangel Saforus’s vision foretells the rise of heroes destined to challenge the spreading darkness, the burden falls upon Garthen, a battle-hardened commander haunted by the ghosts of his slain family, and Kriegon, a newcomer from another world searching for redemption and purpose.
Bound by fate, they unite with Ellena, Rei, Saphire, and Zenmore to form the Guardians—a fellowship forged not by choice, but by necessity. Together, they must confront the demonic princes Mammon and Beelzebub, whose sinister plots threaten to plunge their world into chaos. As light and shadow clash, trust is tested, loyalties are strained, and the cost of destiny becomes painfully clear.
Fribbs delivers a sweeping fantasy rich with emotion, action, and moral depth. His vivid storytelling blends the epic scale of Tolkien with the character-driven heart of Brandon Sanderson, offering a journey through courage, loss, and divine purpose. Rise of Vice is an unforgettable beginning to a saga of prophecy, sacrifice, and hope.
This fantasy has a great concept. I would have more than likely enjoyed it if I were not preoccupied with current studies and life situations. Also, some parts felt either underexplained or overexplained; but again, that could have been my current distractions making it hard to follow at times. A great read for those who love adventure, fantasy, and LitRPG-styled stories. 3.5 stars for me.
At first, I wasn't sure about this book. It started a little slow, but I liked it enough. I continued on, still liking it enough to continue, but it was nothing to write home about. Then an event happened in the story that made me sit on the edge of my seat. I craved more, I needed more, and I couldn't put the book down. Bring on the next one!!!
I really enjoyed the engaging storyline, it pulled me in from the beginning. Wonderful characters whose journey has just begun, I can't wait to see what happens next.
This is the first of the series , I can’t wait for more , it was a real page turner ! Please put me in your arc reviewers lists , this was a fair a honest review for the arc to review ! It was a great adventure I want more
That escalated quickly. This was a wham bam thank you ma'am start to a promising new series! My only complaint is the continuous reference to "the burden of leadership" or "the burden of.....". I'm hoping the next in the series has more character lore/info and is just as fast paced!
Excellent read. This is an original story that will keep you saying, just one more chapter. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. Chance Fribbs is now one of my favorite authors.
