Former mining engineer Robert Erskine is hired by St Martin’s Bank to investigate the disappearance of several senior staff. Erskine tracks down Amanda, a former girlfriend and fellow engineer, who is visiting London from South Africa. Erskine and Amanda set out to solve the case, but there are otherworldly forces at work which they must face to succeed. Damaged by life experiences and challenged by the human and inhuman, Erskine and Amanda uncover a fraud which has gone beyond simple theft and claimed the lives of both the innocent and criminal.

This is a cosy mystery about the disappearances of people working for St. Martin's Bank.
Erskine has been appointed to help solve what has happened and uncover secrets of swindling. I enjoy where the setting of the story is based locally in my home town. And when historical events are mentioned in London I love it!
The strange supernatural horse was a great element to the story as well.
The characters were all likeable and slotted well together, particularly how it was teamwork to solve this rather than all about the main protagonist.
Parts of it were eerie and dark, typical of London at night if you're on your own!
And I can't wait to see what happens between Amanda and Erskine. It was a thrilling story and one I could not put down!

Just didn't get the spiritual side of this novel - went over my head completely !!
Rest of the novel with plot and characters I felt was generally light weight and nothing out of the ordinary. Sorry, not for me :(

I didn't get the spirits/horse link at all, and I thought they didn't really add to the story. The story itself had me gripped and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

Firstly, it was lovely to meet the author of this book at the Bearsted market this summer 😊

This book wasn't my usual read and if I'm honest, I don't think I really understood the ending or the relevance of the horse to the rest of the story. But putting that to one side for a moment, the characters were loveable and I was genuinely interested in how they worked together to crack the case. I enjoyed the journey they took me on and hope there are more adventures to come.
