Violet Woods agrees to resize an engagement ring for two former suspects-turned-friends. When it disappears, literally beneath her nose, she uses her witchy ability to locate it. Violet discovers other shops have experienced thefts too. Can she find the culprit behind the thefts and retrieve the ring? Or will this loss spell doom for Charming Treasures’ business?
It is nice to see the interaction between Violet and Zelda. They still have their problems, but the two are slowly learning their partner’s quirks. I like how Violet is slowly learning to use her witchy ability. She does not have full control and blunders often.
DEAD RINGER is a novella in Casey Griffin’s paranormal-mystery series, CHARM ISLAND MYSTERY. The story takes place between books two and three, so it is necessary to read them first. Sadly, there is no clue revealed about the accident that claimed Violet’s fiancé at the end. DEAD RINGER is a quick yet cute story.

Is there hope for Zelda and Violet to become a team?
I really enjoyed this Charm Island Mystery story, especially since not only was there a mystery to be solved, but this one deals with the relationship between Zelda and Violet. These two have always had an unusual relationship with Zelda being less than affectionate with Violet, I’ll put it that way. In this story, they have to work together to solve a mystery. The dynamics between these two is interesting and I can’t wait to see what they get up to next!

I am really enjoying this series. To be honest, I was a bit sad when I closed my reader on this book. I know there are more coming and I have read the others available, I just wanted more this time. Love the interaction between Violet and Zelda. I am looking forward to learning more of Zelda's past as a familiar and watching Violet's growth as a witch.

It's nice to get to see Vi learn more about her abilities and connect with Zelda a little bit. I admit that this one made me cry, since I had a beloved pet pass away this year, and Jazz reminded me of him, but this was a sweet novella and, if you like the series, I definitely recommend it.
