MMC doesn’t grovel or apologize - MFC takes him back after he gets shot

This was … interesting. Disappointing, but interesting. Like a bad soap opera you can’t look away from. The writing was very - blunt. Little description of scenes. Most of it was internal dialogue. Very short sentences. Minimal paragraphs. (The way I wrote this paragraph is how the book reads)

What little dialogue the characters shared between themselves was direct, short, cruel and biting.

The MMC never actually apologizes. Ever. Or grovels. Or even says I love you until 99%. He just does the pity party thing and disappears in a depressive state pouting about his wretched behavior and stays away and gives MFC a divorce and everything be took from her. He’s a great gaslighter and blames everything on the MFC when he realizes she tries to turn the tables on him. If that’s how he shows his “love” - let me drown in the ocean and may a “love” like that never ever find me.

For the MFC … she’s a true victim; she has elements of strength and I truly appreciated her having a spine and even sticking to the divorce and being separate for 2.5 years —- but this man absolutely treated her worse than his own enemy and she.. still somehow managed to love him??

Was the love in the room with us? What’s completely unrealistic is that you don’t see any sort of true love develop between the two in the story. You just don’t. It’s not developed as a story line besides very fleeting moments the main characters fabricate in their head. You don’t even see it at the end. No moments of changed behavior, nothing. Just the MMC getting the MFC back. After she goes to him and says she loves him I want you back. Etc.

What you do see…. Is a trauma bonded MFC enduring the MMC repeated abuse and absolute power over her, even using their son as a pawn to control her; a MFC suffering from severe Stockholm syndrome and dare I say body betrayal , and an unnecessary baby that links them together forever in their trauma. That somehow “heals” them and reveals their true nature to each other. That they both suddenly realize their “hate” is actually “love”.

It would have been different to actually see some change in the MMC .. not him at the end just getting power over her again in a “happy wedding” that the MFC convinces herself she actually wants this time.

It was an interesting premise but I felt that the MMC took things too far and didn't grovel enough. While I like the fact that the FMC did talk to the MMC after the accident, the fact that she took him back turned me off - I understand that people may act certain ways to get partners or fit in, but after the MMC's actions towards something the FMC did or did not do was enough to get me to drop the book.

Aún no he decido si lo perdono.

No

Unexpected

This book started out exactly how most dark billionaire romances begin: with a contract. To be honest, I hated the fmc at first. She is really whiny and there are SO MANY CHAPTERS where she hates herself for giving into the mmc. Girl, we get it, you have a degradation k!nk. Just accept it.

But, I will say that she grows on me. The spine that she begins to show really gets stronger and stronger and by the time the baby gets here, she ends up reforged. In truth, I liked most aspects of this book, but was mainly frustrated by the length. Parts seemed to drag on and on, especially towards the end.

It wasn’t excessively spicy or really all that dark and the world building and supporting characters were kinda of mid. It read more like an old soap opera than anything else. The focus was definitely more internal into the two main characters and less on the environment, other characters, or outside drama.

I was EXCEEDINGLY grateful for our mmc to actually face some consequences for his action. You just don’t see that enough, you know? The end was sweet and I’m overall satisfied with the story!

1. The whole conflict seemed manufactured. Helena agreed to marry Daniel; there was nothing in the contract about obeying every order he gave her. She had a job. She had her own money. She didn’t have to agree to move into whatever home he insisted on, allow him to isolate her, wear the clothes that he bought her, attend the events he demanded she go to.
2. The h, Helena, had the worst case of BBS I’ve ever seen. The H, Daniel, blackmailed her into marriage so that he could isolate her and control every single thing she did. He wouldn’t allow her to leave the house, to work, to have any individuality at all. He was cruel and mocking and all she could think about was how hot he was and how much she wanted him.

Daniel, Daniel, Daniel. Daniel why? Daniel do you ever regret being born because I honestly wish your mother had aborted you Daniel. You’re a waste of oxygen Daniel. I’m not sorry for saying that Daniel. It says a lot about you Daniel that you think you’re so tough. You’re a fucking loser Daniel. I will never stop hating you Daniel. Daniel why did you gaslight yourself so much? Is it because you can’t face what an innate failure you are Daniel? Is it because you can’t face how abusive you are Daniel? Daniel the world would be better without you. #teamdanielshouldgoaway #helenawasafool #butshestilldeservedbetter
(I know Daniel’s fictional but my hatred for this man surpasses metaphysical limits)

Hard pass romance

Helena and Daniel marry because she needs money to protect her mother and he needs revenge. She does not know that he knew her family and hatted her father. He destroys her career, isolates her in the country, and constantly makes her think she has control of her choices but doesn’t. He’s ruthless and she’s a pawn. When she really needs him, he rejects her when she plans her own revenge. Pregnant, she is left alone and saved by some nuns. When he realizes his mistake and his child, the gap is almost too wild to cross.

Both offer little to endear themselves to each other or the reader. Her deviance is empty and his plans petty.

Excellent Book

Firstly all credit to the author, as someone else has already said it. The author could have made this into a series and the fact that she didn’t and also didn’t charge an horrendous price for the book has my utmost respect. Great book really well written the narrative revenge and manipulation was so well written. I don’t give spoilers all I will say is buy the book you will not be disappointed.

Emotional roller coaster!

Yes I hated Daniel, with every fibre in my soul! I felt all the pain and anguish Helena went through. From the beginning, how they met, his cruelty to her, yet his possessive nature that he believed was just control. These two put themselves and us through so much pain, tears, anger and hope that they would finally see the sun! Intense read!

A novel that has a little bit of everything. Do you want deception and lies, do you want yearning and eggs? Do you want a few funny moments? Then look no further cause this book can have all of that scattered across roughly 850 pages it is a big undertaking and the pacing isn’t always consistent. some parts went a bit slower than others but the drama is there like a good soap opera love to see the development of both characters and the grovelthon. Overall, it was good book and I enjoyed it.

Destined to be together.

This is a very enjoyable book. Both Daniel and Helena were in denial of their feelings for each other for approximately 90% of the book. I did find that to be annoying tho. Other than that, a test of wills was definitely a tug of war was their other normal.

He never rejected the child. He didn't believe that she was pregnant.

Absolutely loved the grovel!

This is my first book by this author. What a roller coaster in the best ways possible! It has everything I look for in a romance. Emotion. Conflict. Plot twists. Spice. And an epic grovel. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. Have your tissues ready. Five out of five stars!

beautiful

I found it odd they referred to each other as wife and husband for a long time. Maybe because they were awkward around each other.. would have been nice to see that leonardo’s child was actually arrested for the shooting..but glad they worked out their differences..

Couldn't even finish it

When we get to 87% of the book and the betrayer STILL hasn't apologized EVEN ONCE, you know you're going to be disappointed.

I would do the opposite of recommending this book. Stay far, FAR AWAY FROM IT.

Long winded, boring and very predictable. Unimaginable that one has to go through so many pages to reach the usual enemies turned lovers ending and with a baby thrown in. The Author need to redifine her writing.

Emotional Rollercoaster

So glad this is all one book …. So many are trilogies or 6 books to get to the end! Many points where I wanted to shake both the FMC and MMC, but it was all fine in the HEA!
