Sterek From his textbooks, Stiles had gotten the impression that vampires had a weird, stretched out look to them — slightly too-long limbs and pale skin. This guy, though, he looked human, broad-shouldered and clearly muscular even under a loose sweatshirt. He wasn’t pale at all, his skin lightly tanned, hair dark, eyes pale. They narrowed at Stiles and Stiles froze as the man looked him up and down, clearly judging him. He must have passed the test, though, because the man kind of shrugged and said, “Take off your clothes.” Art by Tsuminoaru Words:35959 complete
pretty engaging, to the point where I wished it were longer.
I may have missed something, but it struck me as odd that Derek would be so offended by the notion that stiles would be there to research a paper on him when his whole life revolved around the study and display of sentient merfolk kept in tanks situated in an old barn.
This was really good. There's lots of KNOTTING. I liked the merfolk bits.
Stiles picks up a vampire on Graigslist to get a hands-on experience for a paper he has to write to school. He ends up hooking up with Derek, by a mistake, instead.
Derek is an Alpha and a professor of Marine Biology and Cryptozoologyn. Alphas experience heat as frequently as once a month. Derek always spends his heats alone, knotting his hand over and over. This time Laura posts an ad for him on Craigslist for a heat partner, because he's unbearable during his heats. Either he has to get on suppressants or find someone to fuck.
Gah! This is one of the stories I read in 2014, that was then deleted from the GR d'base. I keep running into these, getting excited, and then realising I already read it.
How do AO3 peeps know they already read something without shelves?
Oh, I just don't know about this one. It took too long to get to the romantic part and I didn't like some of the stuff that happened. I know, tags. I know and I read them but I still read it so the fault lies with me.
It was really hot though :)
I also liked all the other supernatural shit in it. That was cool.
The dual POV...I can't decide if I liked it or not. I didn't like that it replayed the same scene, from each point of view, due to the repeat... But then again, I did like it, because I liked getting Derek's POV. So, I was okay with it. Maybe it was just due to it being the same scenes.
Very hot...Lots of knotting. I love knotting. A little biting, I love biting. Throw in the feels, and I'm a happy camper.
I read this months ago, so here is what I remember:
I remember the opening of the book being this incredibly hot sex scene. Then waiting for more of the same, and waiting and waiting ... while reading this somewhat fluffy, slightly amusing, but overall unengaging story where Stiles is a college student, Derek is a professor and an attraction develops from some anonymous sex at the beginning of the story. Moving on ...
This was good, although the thing keeping it from being a 4 star for me was the pacing. We jump right into sex, which hey, no complaints here. But then it goes from 60 to zero with the switch to angst for the majority of the book. Of course we get out HEA, but despite Derek saying they needed to talk and make sure they were on the same page... the rest of the book was just more sex. Still no evidence they're compatible as boyfriends.
But if there's gonna be an angst sandwich with sex as the bread, at least it was damn good bread.
I also didn't love the overlapping timelines. After reading and entire chapter from Stiles' POV, I don't need to read it all over again from Derek's POV. Especially when it's mostly dialogue so there's not enough of a difference. You definitely needed both POV's to be sympathetic to their feelz, but taking turns is fine.
Overall, an alright book that I think had the potential to be a bit better with some reorganization. I will say, the merpeople were freaken awesome. (Although I am curious as to the laws/rights of these sentient creatures...)
I thought this was adorably cute but I am taking off half a star because of the repetition in POV changes. Did we really need to go through the exact same scene - dialogue and all? Other than that, I enjoyed the premise and especially the merfolk:)
There is a line in here that is quite amusing, something akin to 'that's the most interesting house tour I've ever had.' Fun romp in Sterek land with all kinds of paranormal creatures and everyone knows and is OK with it. Set in University with alive Hale family.
the setting: supernatural creatures are known; Stiles is in college and Derek is a proffessor that works with merfolk + his family is alive. Also, werewolves experience heats. Stiles wants to research vampires, so he sets up a meeting at a hotel to see how it's like to be fed on. There's a mix up and he ends up with a horny werewolf instead :) and his name is Derek.
My only grip with this fanfic was that it was shorter than it should have been, and Derek felt slightly out of character for half the damn thing. Derek just didn't feel...concrete in his personality.
