After attempting a long-distance relationship, Kyle and Sam realize they don’t want to be with anyone else and decide to take the next step. But living together brings more challenges than they had anticipated.

After a summer back at the farm, Kyle and Sam move in together while Sam starts an internship in the city and Kyle continues with art school. Farm life’s left them ill prepared for dealing with each other’s idiosyncrasies, but they have no intention of giving up on each other. To succeed, they’ll need to learn to compromise, but everything gets more complicated when Kyle’s mother unexpectedly leaves her abusive husband and vows to be the mother Kyle has always wanted.

When the realities of living as a gay couple settle over them, they’re faced with the ultimate test of their commitment. Whether they’re ready or not, the moment has arrived when Kyle and Sam must sink or swim.

I started this book several months ago and I just couldn't get into it. I was surprised because I loved, loved, loved Last of the Summer Tomatoes. So I'm trying to read books I currently have on my Kindle so I figured I'd give it another go. No such luck. I was still bored. Plot was going nowhere. So I read a spoiler review that explained everything and I'm so glad I read it so that I could save myself some time. Needless to say, I skipped chunks of this book to get to the end.

Within this single book we have HIV testing, friend who gets gay bashed and bleeds all over Kyle. Sams's horse get bit by a snake and he sprain's his ankle. Then a tornado hits the farm. With Glenda we have a cancer/health scare which turns out to be a 45ish year old woman being pregnant. We then have a death by gay bashing with shitty parents they have to have a fund raiser to bury. Then we have Sam falling 20 feet at a construction site and has a is spinal injury, only to be cured by a magical stem cells which just happen to be saved from the placenta of Sam's baby sister. It fixed everything but his erections. Kyle and Sam break up because they can no longer make the anal sex and Sam is being a prick. Although he gets the ability to pee and can feel his penis fine. They get back together after a month apart.
oh also somewhere in there Kyle's mom sobers up, Sam's sister starts writing letters saying that she was a former prostitute and drug addict who then shows up with a grandson to move into the farm.

All in 300 pages on a book. Nothing it really flushed out and threads are just dropped. This book is ok and I am happy to see Sam and Kyle again. This book would have been better if there wasn't a new catastrophe every chapter.

I was excited when I I saw the Sherrie Henry had written a sequel to her novel, "the Last of Summer Tomatoes." I loved the first novel- it was a great coming-of-age/coming out story. But this follow-up seemed a bit rushed. It seemed more like an extended epilogue to the original story: Wrap up a bunch of plot lines dropped in the first novel (such as the missing sister and some more details about Mom and evil Stepdad) and throw in a WHOLE bunch of new plot lines that are only marginally linked to each other or anything from the original story. This novel got away from the lives and feelings of the characters and was based more on how many roadblocks could be thrown in the path of the MC's.

I really wanted to like this, but just couldn't get as wrapped up in it as I did the original. It was OK, just not great.

Would like to read a third part of the story that follows a simpler storyline and gets back to the character driven story of the first novel.

Nice follow up story. The book starts were book 1 finished. We get to see the daily life of Sam and Kyle.
At the middle/end of the book something happens (i won´t tell you what because it would be a major spoiler) but let´s just say they have to find a way to each other again.

I do think there should be at least one more book, so we can see what life for these guys is in the next few years.

If you read the first book i recommend you read this one. If you haven't read the first book i highly recommend you do!

I am so happy the author did a follow up. I have been waiting patiently. This one started off with day to day things, no biggie, but then BAM. I won't spoil it but get out the tissues.
Now, I am going to ask for one more sequel. It can even be a short story. But PLEASE show us these guys in about 10 years!

The second book after "The last of the Summer tomatoes" finds Kyle and Sam moving in together in New York, starting their life together.
That is not without trouble.

Sam and Kyle also get back to the Ranch, to help work there for the Summer.
We meet Kyles mom that want back into Kyles life
We meet Glenda and Walt again, and find out a secret they have.
We also meet Sams twin Kristina and her son Connor.

The boys get into accsidents and big problems they have to work out together, and that....

I loved the first book and I really liked this one ;)

Sequel to The Last of the Summer Tomatoes

Summary:

Life is never easy and when you least expect it things can go wrong. Kyle's life at home and the abuse he endured led him to Kyle's parents showed him what a family is really like giving him the same love they gave their son Sam. As Kyle and Sam begin the next stage in their lives they face separation, prejudice, and danger that threatens to destroy their love. In spite of all the conflicts the build friendships that will see them though everything that lies ahead. When their lives began to unravel they returned to Sam's families farm allowing them regain their perspectives. The acceptance that Kyle and Sam found was inspiring and even when they meet with hatred their love for each other remained. I hope that this isn't the end of Kyle and Sam's story.

Reviewed by Brandilyn for Prism Book Alliance. In The Last of the Summer Tomatoes (insert link) Sherrie Henry gave us young, first love and its sweetest. In Two Red Leaves, she makes Kyle and Sam grow up. I don't just mean that they finally have sex, I mean they have to make their relationship work. They face many of the same conflicts that any new couple faces. They also face the added pressure of living together for the first time. Once they are finally in a routine, they face more issues. Issues that rip their hearts out... and yours.

I received a free copy of this book from the GoodReads First Reads program in exchange for an honest review. I didn't realize that this was a gay romance when I requested it (I'm straight), but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. A well written tearjerker, good read.

The good life

I read this good in small chunks. The two certainly had a journey with the final book in the series. I never felt the need to. Inge this one. Not sure what to make of that. 3.25 for intimacy.

So happy there was a sequel!! Sam was not as perfect and I thought he was. I really loved the rest of the story and the ending so much!!! Love getting some closure, too.
