The full Biblical text of the "Acts of the Apostles" together with commentary, divided into short lessons that can be read in ten minutes a day. The commentary after each segment will help you understand any difficult passages and deepen your understanding of the book's meaning and application. The commentary is non-denominational and appropriate for all Christians.
I would put this book in the must-read category for experienced Bible readers and novices alike. Barge’s perspective on the start of the early church is uniquely true to scripture and invaluable to keep the reader anchored on God’s word.
Despite having read Acts several times over the years, I learned a surprising amount from this book. With the fast paced action in the book of Acts, it was helpful to slow down and digest it in small bites. The author then filled in with context that I simply would not have known and I would have missed a valuable part of the story. I especially appreciate that Barge sticks to a Bible-centric point of view - meaning only if the context is specifically in the Bible, is it presented as fact. That helped me stay grounded in scripture, and not confuse it with story telling or probability.
I read this book armed with a Biblical map to help visualize Paul’s journeys and the growth of the early church. This book and the map together helped me take a disconnected list of people, facts and scriptures in my memory, and tie them together into an easier to understand, rich historical narrative.
