Fansuri seorang pelukis muda.
So it took me a while because I was in a reading slump but I finally finished it.
It is a character-focused story on Fansuri, a struggling artist who was tasked to care for the younger sister of his old friend/non-friend after said friend commited delete himself from this Earth. Thus, begins his journey of self-discovery, realisation and forgiveness of the people who wronged him in life.
I like Fansuri as a protagonist because of how human and imperfect he is. He is someone who prays and always good to people around him but he does have some issues stemming from his own trauma of being mistreated by people around him that caused him to be chastised and reprimanded. It's not often you encounter an author that understands what does it means to 'write' a human being.
Aubrey/Uppuma is a bit of a mixed bag. After her brother's death in such a way, she is forced to rely on a total stranger to go on with her life. At the beginning I was struggling so hard to read her because my god she is annoying af. Like wdym you trash the home of someone you squat like your average Zionist just because you disagree with something? The only way I could go on is rationalising it as her having the same mental struggles as her brother and being around Fansuri, Tajul & Kak Wani is a way to heal. However, she also has her own mature moments where she makes more sense than Fansuri. In a way, they are perfect for each other. They match each other's freak.
The last 200 pages focuses on Fansuri's past which is dark af because wdym someone like Yaseer exists on this planet? Yaseer is probably one of the most original bully I've read & watched because he is so diabolical I can't help but respect (in a negative way ofc).
The downside? I can't help but feel Yaseer deserves worse. I do like how they don't make him "heal" because a narcissistic sob like him never change but I do wish they publicly expose him or smthg.
I also think that both Aubrey and Fansuri need serious therapy. One probably have bipolar disorder and another still suffering PTSD from being bullied.
