Jean Dufaux is a Belgian comic book writer. Beginning his professional career as a journalist for "Ciné-presse", Dufaux started writing comic books in the 1980s. Perhaps his most well-known, and certainly his most long-running, series is Jessica Blandy.

We continue with book 5 Africa where’s it’s all Jade’s story, no Kim this time.

Lord Nelson, Lady Nelson and Jade continue to enjoy their ménage à trois as they travel to Africa. Their boat is savagely attacked by the natives as they go up river, deeper into the heart of this vibrant but mysterious continent. But is this just an act of pure brutality? Or is there another reason, perhaps one connected to that black pearl that Jade wears in her ear, a pearl that exactly matches that of their goddess? This is the beginning of a second cycle of the grippingly exotic adventures of Jade, the mistress of the eminent Lord and Lady Nelson.

No back and forth through time makes this for a cleaner story arc.

Ana Mirallès lush watercolor art continues to dazzle me. Such a feast for the eye and what attracted me to read these graphic novels in the first place.

Trommeln, Trommeln aus der Tiefe der Savanne...

Mit diesem Band beginnt der zweite Zyklus von "Djinn". Aus dem sonnenverbrannten nahen Osten gehen sowohl Story als auch Zeichnungen in eine neue Welt über: das diesige, oft in Zwielicht getauchte Afrika, das uns hier in wunderbaren Aquarellen präsentiert wird, wird zum Schauplatz einer düsteren Geschichte um Macht und Mythos. Der Djinn in Jade wird erneut auf die Probe gestellt...

Ganz so wie der herausragende erste Band des ersten Zyklus ist "Afrika" leider nicht geworden - erst gegen Ende des Bands bekommt man einen Eindruck, wohin das ganze szenarisch und atmosphärisch führen soll, und die letzte Szene zwingt mich dann doch, mindestens den Folgeband zu lesen.

Bei Lesern, die wegen diesem Aspekt den ersten Zyklus mochten, wird der deutlich reduzierte Erotikanteil etwas auf Verwunderung stoßen. Die Kenntnis des ersten Zyklus hilft gewiss, ist aber meines Erachtens nicht unbedingt nötig.

Goodness this series. Things pick up but they continue to take vaguely racist and wild turns. The story is 85% sex at this point. I was hoping there would be some kind of plot payoff where we get to understand more about the mystery that's happening but it's not there...or I'm totally missing it.

Autant les premiers tomes étaient ok - quoique déjà très racistes avec une fétischisation des corps non blancs sans parler des standards sexistes du dessin, les femmes étant a poil les 2/3 du temps (l'excuse du harem, ça passe 5 min), des viols a la pelle sans trop de raison pour le script (et encore moins présentes en tant que tel)
Ce chapitre 5 est une débâcle sans fin. L'histoire, poussive, est reprise en Afrique (parce que tout le monde sait que l'Afrique n'est qu'un grand pays uniforme...). On y retrouve les mêmes travers, en pire, des premiers tomes avec une narration vide et intéressante. Franchement, c'est pas possible d'écrire un truc aussi nul.

Beginning of a new chapter. Interesting to see that the emotional connection between Lord Nelson, Lady Nelson and Jade is still there. Will it last? Shows a lot of the exploitation of Africa.

The start of the second cycle takes our three protagonists to Africa. Jade becomes more of the Dijnn both physically and spiritually.

This is gripping and as always beautifully drawn. However, it contains all the racial stereotypes expected from a white, European man reminiscing about a brutal time of colonies, pillage and rape.

Un nouveau tome exempt de la présence de Kim. Cette fois, on est vraiment dans les années 1900 et on retrouve notre trio : Jade/Lady Nelson/ Nelson... Nos trois amis, riches depuis leur prise du trésor, décident de voyager en Afrique. A travers leurs aventures, on découvre la part sombre de l'Afrique Coloniale et la manière dont les blancs ont tenté de mettre un frein aux croyances et à la culture des Africains. J'aime beaucoup cet aspect très critique du colonialisme. Par ailleurs, les images, les détails sont toujours aussi bien faits, j'ai particulièrement apprécié la scène du cirque, tranche de vie du colonialisme qui met en exergue une forme d'esclavage, d'enfermement métaphorique à travers les animaux du cirque. Le fait que Jade les libère n'est pas anodin... La suite est tout aussi passionnante... Et à nouveau, le surnaturel fait son retour. Le personnage du sorcier est inquiétant à souhait et la présence de la perle noire à l'oreille de Jade renforce le fait que nous nous interrogeons sur l'origine du trésor que les héros se sont attribués durant les tomes précédents. Par ailleurs, on se demande si nos héros vont finir par se retrouver, notamment en raison du choix fait par Jade en fin de tome


Ce que j'aime : les couleurs, les paysages très vivants et habilement dessinés, le scénario, le fait que l'intrigue se concentre désormais sur Jade, le regard critique sur le colonialisme


Ce que j'aime moins :ça passe trop vite


En bref : Un excellent tome, passionnant, bien dessiné, qui relance l'histoire en se concentrant sur Jade tout en gommant l'aspect sexuel pour enrichir son scénario

Abbiamo lasciato Jade ed i coniugi Nelson in viaggio dalla Turchia verso l'Inghilterra e li ritroviamo le cuore dell'africa. Tutto sembra partire da un orecchino dalla perla nera parte del famigerato tesoro del sultano. Jade viene vista come personificazione di una dea sanguinaria.....
Le atmosfere appaiono piu' cupe e l'africa nera forse meno affascinante dell'harem e delle sue atmosfere.
