We continue with book 4 The Treasure.

There’s a treasure, long hidden, deep in the heart of the Turkish desert. All those who have tried to obtain it have never returned. But Kim Nelson, a young Englishwoman, has inherited the powers invested in her smoldering ancestor, Jade, the favorite of the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. These powers hold the key to a treasure that no one has ever laid eyes on. Following her escape from Turkey’s last ever harem, Kim is finally ready to unlock the secret… but what’s waiting for her in the depths of the desert cave isn’t exactly what she was expecting…

Ana Mirallès watercolor art continues to be fabulous. Such a feast for the eye and what attracted me to read these graphic novels in the first place.

Themes: Turkey, Kim is a Djinn now, in search of treasure, the sultan sets all his women free, Youssouf Sarki gets a task, war is looming, we leave Turkey.

After 4 books, it's still not clear if Kim seeks the Sultan's treasure or the sensation of being a genie. She says she isn't after the treasure, but she sure acts like it. But I think that's the book's lack of ability to convey a clear message, rather than an exciting mystery about the plot. Then again, the plot of Djinn has never been strong. In the end it's just a comic with beautiful (and very much naked) women and men in exotic settings.

The comic objectifies women, and it's also ageist. I'm not particularly keen on reading/watching scenes depicting old men(geezers) having sex with young women, but never the other way around. Jean Dufaux has completely lost it. This comic is ageist trash and objectifies women.

While the story picked up a bit it's still pretty weird and slow. The art is beautiful but very little actually happens and a lot of what does is very outdated, Western views.

Again.. a not-so-understandable narrative.. but you do manage to get the general storyline of the first 4 issues all together..

Interesting enough to keep you moving with the next Volume..

Fascinating end to the first cycle. Magic and mysticism elegantly wrapped up in a mirage of an ending. This was a really good series. We don’t always get our dreams but we have to reach for them every day.

Enjoy!
