I finally read a book, besides one of Stephen King's, that did not cause me to shutter over the improper grammar and first-grade sentences.

I am a big fan of the AVP Franchise, and my favorite out of the two is the Predator. I watched the movie many times before, but recently I heard that there was a book-version of the movie and that it contained more information and more facts compared to the movie; which is not surprising since movies based on books and comics aren't always 100% equal.

So I bought this book and started reading. The beginning was good. Not only were the characters introduced properly, but the book gave you more information about them, like Sebastian for example. In the movie, we just saw him finding a soda cap from this small opening and we knew he was some archaeologist. But in the book, they explained more about him and how he hasn't really found anything good for years & he basically has a week, if I recall, to find something.

We found out more about Weyland, Lex, and of course, the Predator. In the movie, we just see the Predators get ready in their ship. In the book, they explain more about the Predators and their weapons. They describe the ship and how the ship is really unique inside, since not all rooms look the same. One room looks like some Gothic Cathedral while another looks like some dungeon thing with body parts of their old prey. The way the author describes the Predator is great since he, without straight-out telling you, describes these creatures that make you realize right away that they are warriors.

I found it interesting that in the book, there are FIVE PREDATORS while in the movie, only three came. The only flaw that I find in Predator movies is that there's only a limited amount of them. Predator 1 & 2, there was only 1 Predator. AVP, there were 3 in the first movie, one in the second movie. And in Predators (2010 film), there were 4.... I understand why only a few Predators would fight. They're strong creatures who do not rely on the back-up; I just want to see an army of Predators fighting Aliens!

As things progressed, obviously everybody died except for the two main characters, Scar & Lex. Scar was the bravest Predator out of the 5 (3 if you watched the movie) and his character is displayed more in the book. In the movie, he's just a Predator.... In the book, he's a Predator BUT we see (or read) his actions. My favorite moment obviously being when he scared Lex by poking the Alien's brain and nerve (this scene is actually a director's cut scene but it can be found on YouTube)...
The author described in the book that Scar & the other Predators were teenagers; but not like human-teenagers, but warriors who have to go through a Right of Passage in order for them to become men.

In the book, we see how a special bond is formed between Scar and Lex. He pushes her aside for him to fight the Aliens, carried her when they were running away from the bomb, and put his arm around her to protect her when they were on the sleigh. None of this occurred in the movie. Yes, they did team up, but he didn't protect her as much as he did in the book. The only scene in the movie where he protected her was when he jumped out of nowhere and stabbed the Alien Queen with a spear through her head as she was attacking Lex. But other than that, no carrying or pushing her aside in the movie. I don't really mind that since the audience don't want to see a romantic thing going on between this dude ---> description
and some human. The Predator species is portrayed as strong warriors, not some sympathetic creatures but they will spare your life if they see that you're weak and not a strong opponent for them to take on since they love the hunt.

I really enjoyed the book; if the director of the AVP movie followed the book, then the movie would have been longer and there would be more scenes with the Predators, which I don't mind. If a movie is good, I don't mind it being 2-3 hours long. That's better because that way you have more time to entertain the audience and give them more knowledge on Aliens & Predators.

Anyway, this book was great, loved it. I'm hoping that an Alien Vs. Predator 3 comes out since I didn't enjoy the 2nd. movie of AVP that much (it was way too dark and teenagers in horror movies are just horrible). I would love to see more Predator movies come out, and if it's an AVP movie, even better because both creatures are ass-kicking aliens.

The film was good but the book is better.

More detail and background on the characters, which is always a good thing.

The book has some slight differences from the movie, but this does not detract in any way from the action or the final outcome.

An entertaining read, popcorn, throwaway fiction like the olden days of sci-fi but with todays knowledge, you really do believe these things could exist.

A small glimpse into the world & culture of the Predators that you don't get when it's projected onto the cinema screen.

You don't always get the bigger picture, Ha, Ha, Ha, Sorry about that.

I am a big fan of both franchises and as always the books beat the movie (I did enjoy the movie but there was more stuff in the book that made the story more enjoyable). There is also more horror and mystery in the book that there was in the movie or that could've been if the director chose to take the approach of the producers and directors of the first movie of Alien. It begins very mysterious and has a very grim and (kinda) gory ending which made it all the better.

I’m a big fan of both Alien and Predator franchises, so I was really excited to read this one. There’s also a movie adaptation (AVP- 2004) for those who also want to enjoy the story involving the Xenomorphs and Yautja from a visual and sound perspective. But if you have already seen the movie, this book will clarify a lot of things for you. AVP provides an interesting insight into the Predator’s warrior code and the ancient history that went on between them, xenomorphs and humans.

Spoiler warning

Many fans complained about the team-up, but I really liked seeing Lex and Scar working together to fight the xenomorphs. This team-up underscores the essential difference between Alien and Predator: Aliens would never team up with a human because they are blood-thirsty, killing machines whereas Predators are intelligent and follow a strict code of honor.

Based on the screenplay of the AVP movie, this book is a great addition to both franchises. I've been a fan for years and can happily say I enjoyed this novelization. (Spoiler) The only problem I had with this story was when the crew of the Piper Maru 'detected' the Yautja (i.e. Predators) clan ship. The Yautja use highly advanced cloaking technology which makes them virtually undetectable. Also I get why the ship was 'visible' it added to the dramatic effect but Yautja are extremely secretive. Going to great lengths to keep themselves and their tech a secret. Anyway it was still a good read. :)

Even after seeing the garbage movie, I was like "Hey! Alien vs Predator novel... can't be that bad, can it?" yes. yes it can. Just watch the movie. It's over in 2 hours and you don't have to read this monstrosity.

Aku jadi enggak merasakan second-hand embarassment soal Tragedi Tutup Botol Soda.

Akhirnya, aku tahu nasib Piper Maru.

Selain itu, menurut halaman 8, yautja tidak akan membunuh mangsa yang "not worth the time or effort to kill". Itukah alasan Celtic dan Chopper mengabaikannya?

Kalau di halaman 161, Quinn beranggapan kalau yautja ikut turun karena "probably come to finish the job they'd started".

Sepertinya, luka Scar masih belum cukup mematikan sebelum ditusuk ratu sehingga para yautja pengawas berpikir dia enggak perlu pertolongan meskipun dalam kondisi enggak menguntungkan.

Marc Cerasini authored this novelization of the film, screenplay by Paul W. S. Anderson and Shane Salerno. There are modest differences and similar inconsistentcies in the novel when compared to the movie. Lex and Scar seem to have a tighter bond in the novel and both use Alien body parts to arm and armor themselves. The movie was fun. The book is ok. Coming soon: the comic.

Full disclosure: I’m a fan of anything with a xenomorph or Yautja, and I’m an apologist for this film in particular. There were no surprises here—just a freaky pyramid under some ice, a machine to breed aliens from humans, and a maze where predators can hunt bugs. This was exactly what I was hoping this book to be—easy to read, matching the movie, and not a lot to think about. I will say that it takes about half the hook for the humans to interact with any creatures; the first half drags a bit and the second half goes a little too fast. Despite this, we don’t get to know these characters super well, except Lex, and there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Beyond that, no complaints. Another cool book combining my favorite franchises.

Better than the film but not told as well.

If you've seen the film the book matches about 85% of it even with the dialog. There are some added moments such as internal thoughts of the characters and the Predators while also giving more time to the Predator's hunting and a couple of changes to the ending.

I feel it would have been a better book if it had been written by Alan Dean Foster who had done the novelizations of the first 3 films which I enjoyed a lot and his writing.

I have to say about the random pictures in the middle of the book from the film, they were out of order and just really random pictures of the film. Maybe it was a selling part of the book to get people to watch the film?

I missable book but read if want to read anything Alien like me.

I absolutely read this because I'm unhealthily obsessed with Predators lmao. Really good, my only complaint is that it focused more than half the book on the humans just getting there, and I wanted more monster on monster action. The predator parts were absolutely amazing, and I still love the chemistry between Scar and Alexa. Be still my young heart, this movie definitely set me on a path when i was younger lol

Unfortunately this is just a movie tie in. Even more unfortunately, it's not a good one. The writing is stilted, the descriptions are not great, and overall it's just not well done. As someone who really enjoys the movies, this was a real disappointment to me. May be easier for a fan to read if they haven't seen the movie recently.

Nice background information that fills in holes from the movie. However, the writing style isn’t for me. It was hard to get through this book. A huge positive though is the utter detail of the scene the author was able to create.

Ahh pointless sequels. It scares me to think that while they're being pumped out, truly original movie makers are working at the drive-thru at Taco Bell because they can't get their project off the ground. This movie could have been good, but really it's just an attempt to cash in on 2 previously popular franchises-which are among some of my favoritest. They're hoping that the big beasties have enough pulling power that they didn't even bother to hire anyone you've ever heard of before to appear in it, besides Karl Weyland, who at least gives us a link to the original Aliens films. He's the founder of the soon-to-be-evil Weyland corporation and his middle name is Bishop and he does a little knife game deal with his pen. In any work of media that's otherwise devoid of nice touches, these little things seemed to stand out. To it's credit, this thing does get moving very quickly. Not much time is wasted on setting up the team of soon-to-be-chewed scientists. They survive about 10 minutes in total, and I can't remember a single one of their names. I can't even remember the name of the Ripley wannabe who is so obviously going to survive that it's about as surprising as discovering your pet camel has soft hide. Something that really bugged me was the time scale. It zips along at a great pace, so I can see why they've done it this way. If this thing ever slowed down you'd have a chance to realize how crappy it is. But it contradicts what we know about the Aliens. In this thing it seems to take about 10 minutes for the face-grabber thingy to hump your cake hole, and for the little bundle of joy to do it's chest-explosion routine. 10 minutes?! And 10 minutes later it's a full grown people eater. They grow up so fast. In the originals this process took hours, possibly days, to complete. Like I said, I understand why it's done this way, it's so the nasties are present in the least amount of time, but how about sticking to the rules set out in the real movies? In the film itself, some of the CG aliens are nicely done (although was the Queen really that tall?), but overall this is just an excuse to meet one guy in a rubber suit beat up another guy in a rubber suit. If you're a brain dead wrestling fan you'll probably love it. I'm not, and I didn't-well, not quite. But being a fan of the old movies it was nice to see both these nasties do their stuff again, however a proper, well thought out sequel to the originals, preferably with a proper story, would have been nice. I remember the old movies not only being scary, but gory and messy too. I guess those days are gone. These days they aim for a lower rating so the teens can come in and watch some tame slaughtering. While there's still some implied gore here, nothing is shown, and it's not even remotely scary. As I said before, this should have been better. Of course there are some nice little references to the original movies...and not much else though, but it's otherwise like those pointless sequels to monster mash movies that aren't remotely scary.
