When Niall accepted his role as the Flame’s champion, no one mentioned the Flame had a nemesis—nor what would happen if someone woke them up.
With the stakes higher than ever, Niall is once again forced to answer a call of duty beyond his wildest imagination—although this time he has the support of friends who will follow and fly with him anywhere.
Overwhelmed but determined, he sets out to squash the opposing deity’s uprising. However, when family lies and ties begin to blur the lines of reality, Niall quickly finds his bonds stretched and the threat of the Frost even graver.
If Niall cannot be the champion the worlds need him to be, chaos will reign and a little summer snow will be the least of their problems…

If you have read book 1, you will be familiar with the Flame, and the lore.... but now, meet the Frost. A battle to end all Battles, a bumblebee, a secret third thing (a city, a side, a facet of Man), Alexia has crafted another masterpiece that at times will leave you with your heart in your throat, and at othertimes so deep into the world building that you forget where you are. With new characters, comes new emotional dilemmas.
To say any more would be to spoil it - trust in the brilliance of A M-R. You cant go wrong with her multi-genre brilliance.
Have you ever researched the difference between a dragon and a wyvern?
Who thought such a simple question could spawn a second and simply incredible novel to create a duology.
Quite simply put, this is the finest fantasy novel I have ever read. The drama, the emotion, the visuals all rage in your mind as violently as the flame and the frost strike against each other.
If Netflix or Amazon are reading this, you need to make a streaming series of these books. Alexia has taken her writing and world building to a whole new level.
This is the kind of book made only from the sacred magic and unrelenting skill of an author that enjoys the challenge and process of writing. An immense read and an immense story, with some immensely beautiful art work!
This story is the kind that has you awake in the morning feeling confused, half slumped down your pillow with neck and back ache, with the book still open in your lap and your reading light long dead, after having told yourself at 3am that you would read, 'Just one more page'. And the first thing you do is desperately grapple with the book to find the page you had read up to in the early hours to continue the story on!
After Alexia's first installment of this fire-branded fantasy, it should be no wonder that the author's second installment burns its image into your brain with icy vividness. Scenes of drama, epic world building, desperate and detailed battles of element Champions, dragons and mythical creatures, what more could you ask for? Though not surprised - it's clear the magnitude of Alexia's talent from previously written tales - I'm still left in awe of this inspired work.
And for those turned off of spice and maybe wondering if there is too much romance? Hell no. Trust me, as a reader who desperately avoids romance reads at all costs (aside from the gothicly dark and devastating Wuthering Heights), I'd implore you to give this book a chance. The romance is kept at a bare minimum with characters' relationships used creatively to forward the story and lore behind Frame and Frost.
This was a nice continuation of the story with lots of adventure and danger. The connection between the hero and his dragon friends was just perfection and I'm glad there was multiple points of view this time around. The world-building is incredible too. A worthy fantasy read.
⭐️ 5 stars ‘Flama nobiscum’ - ‘The Flame is with us’ I wasn’t sure this book could match the first one because In the Name of the Flame was such a strong start, but this completely surprised me. You definitely need to read book one first, because this picks up straight away and won’t make sense if you jump in without the setup.
Niyall and Enya’s journey continues with the battle of the Frost and a whole mix of new characters. Every time I thought I understood someone, something shifted and I had to rethink everything. The story is busy in the best way. So much happens from the first chapter to the last, and the detail is exactly what I love. It’s the kind of world you can fall into and stay in.
The worldbuilding steps up, the returning characters feel even more layered, and the ending really delivers. And yes, I still want my own Pynyt.
If you like long books that are over 500 pages, dragons, battles, rich worldbuilding, deep character journeys and a sweet romance with no spice, this one ticks every box.
I read this as an ARC and honestly, I’m excited to see what this author does next.
I feel so lucky to have been one of the first readers to experience this stunning conclusion to the duology! Ever since the ending of In the Name of the Flame, I’ve been dying to know how this story would end — and Alexia Muelle-Rushbrook did not disappoint.
This book truly has it all: dragons (a.k.a. fire dogs 🐉🔥), magic, nonstop adventure, high-stakes action, dramatic plot twists, and a sprinkle of romance. It’s a total page-turner that kept me hooked from the very first chapter to the final page.
I honestly can’t find anything bad to say about this book — it delivers on every front and wraps up the story beautifully. If I had to nitpick, I would have appreciated a short recap at the beginning with the key events from book one, just to refresh my memory. But that’s honestly just me trying to find something to complain about 😜
Alexia Muelle-Rushbrook has such a gift for crafting immersive worlds, compelling characters, and emotional payoffs. I truly hope she continues to write more fantasy books, because I’ll be first in line to read them all!
This book was such a rush in the best possible way. The pacing grabs hold immediately and never lets go, creating a constant sense of excitement that kept me turning the page. The author balances tension, humor, emotion, and wonder so naturally that reading never feels like effort. I was fully swept into this world and didn’t want to leave.
The characters feel so alive, with relationships that are engaging and genuinely meaningful. The romance is just the right amount of teasing spark, enhancing the story rather than overpowering it. I found myself invested not just in the big moments, but in every interaction and tiny detail along the way.
If I absolutely had to find a flaw, I would have loved a small recap at the beginning to refresh my memory. Beyond that, this book delivers everything I hope for in fantasy. It is fun, emotional, adventurous, and wonderfully crafted sit here waiting for whatever this author writes next because I will be devouring it the moment it lands in my hands!
One of my favorite authors! This book picks immediately after “In the Name of the Flame”. It’s a page turner. I have now read/listened to all her books. I was introduced to her by her Narrator on her other books. (My favorite narrator by the way) Amelia Hugh. Alexia Meuller-Rushbook is a multi genre author. And boy does she make it work! I love her writing style. She is descriptive enough that you can easily visualize the story. Without being boring. Some of the names of places are challenging. That’s ok because she included a glossary with pronunciations as well as a map. You will be familiar with the most of the characters from the first book. But you will also meet new characters which keeps the story line intriguing. This book gives us an opportunity to choose for ourselves which side is good vs evil. And how those lines can at times become blurred. It’s high fantasy with a clean romance and is action packed.
This was a great sequel. The series is a wonderful new fantasy series that twists things up a bit. I am going to try and not give spoilers, so this is going to seem kind of generic, but here we go. When a world is split and history written by the Victor, there is never enough knowledge known to make a decision with your mind. Follow your heart and it will lead. That is how I felt these books portrayed the life of the characters. It is very well written and you become invested in the characters and their successes and failures. If you are looking for a fantasy book that is not your typical fantasy book. I recommend this series! I will say the second book did not seem to keep my complete attention as the first one did. However, getting past that halfway mark it got better and I was captured once again.
This is a truly fantastic story that is exceptionally well-written, captivating the reader from the very first page and continuing to do so until the final word. I thoroughly enjoyed the engaging continuation of the narrative, as it seamlessly built upon the previous installment, skillfully keeping me on the edge of my seat with its unexpected twists and turns. The author's ability to craft such intricate and believable character development, coupled with the dynamic and often surprising interactions between them, was truly remarkable. These elements combined to create a rich and vibrant tapestry that made it incredibly easy to become completely engrossed in this immersive, believable, and ultimately compelling world, making it a truly unforgettable reading experience.
A storm of frost and flame finishes off the duology of The flame and I am so not ready for this to end. I devoured the first book so quickly and when it came to this book, I didn’t expect it to be better This book finishes off the duology perfectly. Alexia’s writing is so descriptive and you get immersed into this phenomenal world of dragons, wyverns, magic, plot twists, a battle to end all battles and a touch of romance. I love how Alexia has not written a stereotypical Dragon book. We have a male main character instead of female and the world building / character development is perfection.
In A Storm of Frost and Flame, a champion must fight foe and family to quash a deity's uprising. The worldbuilding is fulsome, vibrant, and alluring. The main character is introspective and likeable and is more interesting than his companion. Like Muelle-Rushbrook's other works the story has a curious, slow-burn pace until the action hits. This is an expansive epic fantasy and a great sequel.
Thank you to the author for providing an Advance Reader Copy.
While you can read this as a stand alone it's so much richer if you've read The name of the flame. The move from Flame to Frost does has a different feel to it but deservedly so. The move from adventure to battle is truly epic. How Alexia comes up with the intricacies of the worlds and plot is inspiring. Having read and listened to the audio on the first book I now look forward to hearing the audio of the second as well. A tale worth savouring.
That plot twist really hit, I was absolutely not expecting that! Just like the first book I totally loved this one and I still want my own mini dragon companion! 😂 I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
I loved the first book in this series, In the Name of the Flame, which felt like an adventure mystery. Book #2 was more of an adventure thriller, with high stakes throughout the whole book. All the main characters from the first book returned, with a lot of characters we didn’t previously know, and there was a lot more lore for both us and the characters to learn about.
What I enjoyed: the characters (especially the two leads), the draconic aspects (both the big ones and the miniature – a separate species, they’ll remind you), and the vibrant sense of place. In fact, I think this book had the clearest & most vivid descriptions of locations of any book I read in all of 2025! It really drew me in. What I didn’t like: the continued dread of anticipated hard (impossible) choices and overwhelming odds. The vibe of Book 2 was simply quite different than Book 1. Book 1 happened to be exactly what I was looking for; Book 2 wasn’t what I was expecting. All said, Book 1 was 5 stars and Book 2 still 4 stars, and I’ve purchased all this author’s other work, so I’m clearly a fan!
This is the second book in this duology, and I love it. And I will admit I got the audiobook, and I did have to re listen to a couple of parts, because it was like seriously that actually started happening. No, I must have heard that wrong. And then I found out that I didn't hear it wrong, because I rewind it. And it was No, spoilers, but this is good. And I loved how it was wrapped up quite nice and neatly
A good sequel extends the story. A great sequel makes you realise the exquisite level of world building in the previous book. An outstanding sequel makes you sad you’ve finished, but happy you read it.
Frost and Flame is an outstanding sequel. Not only does it complete the story from Name of the Flame, but the little touches like “Oh, you’re not from round here, your name has no Y” makes you realise how much thought Alexia put into this world. In terms of scale, this is true epic fantasy at its best. We have worlds divided and reunited, we have fated royals to unite the houses, we have a twist I didn’t see coming, and didn’t see how Niall could reconcile it without me being terribly upset.
There were no dull moments in this book. It zipped along, dragging me with it to an breathtaking ending.
Oh, that ending.
I wanted to learn how to read fifty pages simultaneously to absorb all of it in one go. A cataclysmic battle, love, hope, betrayal. I couldn’t read it fast enough.
Talk about a crazy adventure. And there are enough twists and turns that I could not predict the end the way it happened. I loved every moment of reading this book. The shock and awe moments are throughout the book and they don’t disappoint. If you like fantasy, if you like dragons, if you like adventure with just the right amount of romance so that it still is focusing on the fantasy that this is a book series for you.
Audiobook Update: This book was so amazing with a narrator Brandon and Amelia are the perfect narrators to work together. I believe this was a dual narration where each narrator reads their characters points of view, and does all the characters voices. I loved being able to hear this story brought to life and to hear all the twists and turns again. I listened to this slower then I normally do so that I could enjoy every last drop - And it was worth it! If you love fantasy, dragons, family dynamics, and fated mates this is the adventure for you!
