3 Ideas That Can Change Your Life

Rate this book
All changes are based in ideas. Ideas give us new perspectives and from those new perspectives we’re able to change our behaviors.

In this small report, I’ve put together three ideas that have influenced my life and which I believe can influence yours.

Idea #1: The Two Minds
Idea #2: How to 80/20 Your Life
Idea #3: Believe Not What’s True, But What’s Helpful

I didn’t come up with these ideas myself. If you look around hard enough, you’ll see them pop up in all sorts of places, from business, to NLP, to generic Self Help, to various forms of therapy.

This is just my take on them and some of the ways I’ve applied them. I hope you get something out of them.

Best,
Mark Manson

Some of these ideas were new. Some of them - not so much. But one way or another, I would recommend to read this.

I personally really loved the idea of two minds - thinking mind and observing (one that sees that you are thinking) mind. It really opened me to new way of noticing my emotions and my feelings that make me do rash things and take stupid decisions.

The one thing, though, that I really disliked was that there are no links to scientific research or anything else to read more about these three ideas. It would have really helped to make this book look more reliable.

I got this book by a mail from Mark Manson and i really appreciate his efforts as he took care about every detail.
Okay So the book is amazing and very very meaningful . ( Based on real life examples )
All the changes are based on ideas and ideas give us new perspectives and from those new perspectives we’re able to change our behaviours .
Just think for a while ; if we’re thinking about something continuously then who’s observing our mind thinking ? This is the idea no #1 “The two minds” . It was our mind watching our mind. “The thinking mind” and “The observing mind” the two minds . The problem with thinking mind is that we can’t completely control it . Our observing mind is continously watching our thinking mind and telling it not to think about it . Most of the psychological problems , stress , depression happens beacuse our thinking and observing minds are fused . He has also described some exercises we can do that will help us in separating our two minds and becoming less slave to our thoughts and emotions .
The idea no #2 is “ How to 80/20 your life”. this 80/20 principal states that 80% of output or results will come from 20% of input or action. We can apply this principal in business management situations and also in our everyday life .
The idea no #3 is “The prime belief” . Believe not what’s true but what’s helpful . There is a realization from which all the potential personal growth emerges . That is the realization that we’re responsible for everything we do, no matter the external circumstances . It is the simple choice to take responsibilty for our mistakes , for our values that will transform our negative experiences into empowering experiences .
I want to thank my thinking mind . Thankyou thinking mind for being angry , for being crazy , for being caring , for being emotional , for feeling nervousness and confidence at the same time . I really apperciate how much you care .
Thankyou Mark Manson for this ebook .

“𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀.”

Honestly? I was surprised to how much precise this whole book was. It’s basically an article or a long essay if you will but damn, a good one.

If you want one guy to give it to you straight, it’s Mark Manson. The two mind rule really hit me hard. The way be explains stuff is like a smooth professor, the one that you might not really like(even curse behind his back) but you love the way he teaches. Straight to the point, no beating around the bush. And take my word for it, he’s GOOD.

I think if you are a person who’s anxious about life in general, read this. If not, then also read this. Maybe it’ll help you or maybe not. But I’m sure you’ll learn something from it. Highly recommend it.

My rating- 4/5

3 ideas that can change your life! The title itself is so attractive that one would love to read the book. However in the first few lines at the beginning, the author mentioned that those coming up ideas that he talked about in the book are not innovated by himself, instead, he elaborated that the ideas are a collection of the most powerful and usual ideas that he has learned throughout his research life. And that is one of the main reasons I wanted to continue reading!

A wonderful mini book I would say. Cute, helpful, and very nice

I read this book at the end of the year thinking it might give me some profound information on how to deal with life better. It’s simplistic writing helped me ask some deeper questions and formulate some resolutions for the coming year. It was less of a reading experience and more of a reflective experience. Would recommend it to everyone willing to take an introspective look on their lives.

This is a short read and a useful one. Manson introduced 3 ideas that have influenced his life. I love Manson's writing style: easy to read and easy to understand. More importantly, he provided concepts that we can apply for self-improvement.

This book is somewhat revolutionary. This gives me the insight to make my days more productive and more fulfilling.

The three ideas that are discussed in this book, mostly have been discussed in his previous books. But here it goes:

1) The Two Minds.
I have covered this topic in my review about “Mark Manson on Self-Knowledge”, you can check that out! Simply put, we have “Thinking Mind”and “Observing Mind” and in order to maintain our sanity and productivity, we need to not fuse these two minds.

2) How to 80/20 Your Life.
Also known as "Pareto Principle"; discovered by Italian economist named Vilfredo Pareto who noticed that every year 20% of the pea pods in his garden produced approximately 80% of the peas.

This idea then became “a popular management tool" to increase efficiency and effectiveness. This book then gave several examples of questions to put this concept into practice, for example: “What do you spend 20% of your time doing that gives you 80% of your happiness?” This book added, “Not only is there an efficiency, but we have control and influence over that efficiency.”

3) Believe Not What’s True, but What’s Helpful.
I also have covered this topic in my review about “Mark Manson on Self-Knowledge”, you can check that out! What I want to write here again is, “Belief" is really powerful; but actually, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. What matters is, if it's helpful —for your life, future, etc.

These three concepts are really powerful. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to go further in life!

Its small, Its an easy read, its practical and that's why its relevant and helpful.
Definitely the ideas that can change your life, if you wish to apply them thoroughly.

Mark briefly explains the 3 ideas which I feel are really relevant for people during these times when people most of the times get stuck on their feelings and end up doing nothing, when due to our inability to manage emotions we get less focussed and when our feelings and emotions take form of outrage compelling us to react on every damn thing happening around leading again to losing out focus on what's important, relevant and needs to be done.

Mark explains how we can not be slave to our thoughts, feelings and emotions rather try to control them. Every thought and emotion can be questioned rather than self identifying with it.

The 80/20 principle which was given largely to explain workings of economics can be applied to channelise our focus and actions as well by deciding that 80% which really matters.

Next, where we feel a constant urge to be opinionated on almost everything and where everything can be debated upon, it becomes necessary to think about the helpfulness of these claims rather debating if they are true or not.

Overall, its a quick and quite helpful read for those learning how to manage their emotions, how not to procastinate and how to manage self beliefs.

Mark Manson compiles 3 thoughtful, powerful ideas into this 20-ish pages book. Mark Manson thoroughly discusses the 3 ideas and conveys some examples and case studies to furtherly clear his points. First of all, I learned that our minds are split into 2, called the “thinking mind” and “observing mind” whereas their names, the observing mind observes the thinking mind. The thinking mind is also uncontrollable as it often wanders and spurs thoughts around. Secondly, I also learned that the 80/20 principle, more commonly known as the Pareto principle, can also be applied to most areas of our life. We can choose the 20% of things that gives 80% of happiness in our lives. Lastly, I learned that by accounting for responsibility for every action you do, your life would be furtherly improved. Taking responsibility for your life would bring you pain and suffering, but those pain and suffering will bring you growth in the end.

I've read quickly through this one because it feels more like an article than a book (and is only 30 pages long). I found it funny that the first idea actually coincides with the time I've decided to be more mindful, reading, among other methods, David Hawkins who actually proposes similar practices in order to achieve clarity and abundance. Other ideas are also pretty helpful.

The ideas themselves are interesting and definitely call for more research, and I assume that was the end goal for the author, introducing the readers to cool new concepts on which they can find out more by digging deeper or finding some more detailed literature.

Received this as a free booklet for my opt-in of Mark Manson's email list. I think the major reason Mark Manson has become such a huge success is not because he gives the best advice out there, but because he writes it so satirically that you don't feel like an old man's lecturing you in his rocking chair by the fireplace with smelly socks and an awkward loose-fitted beany on!

Mostly things I already knew. Nevertheless a to-the-point book. No sugar coating, but just explaining the core ideas with some helpful examples. With most content I read from Manson, I feel that I want to take action. It's a great plus if something I read motivates me to take action.

It's short, which is nice. It gives you somethings about what buddha teachings; calm, observant of one's self, be at peace at your own pace. One of the books you should definitely read when you are feeling lost in the adult-life.

Useful ideas, some are known, some are new for me. However, I didn't always like the way the information was presented there and some examples seemed weird to me.

I love the 80/20 idea for life! And the two minds, I always thought something was wrong with me because I can never stop the mind chatter. Now I know I’m not alone. Very eye opening.
