Ketchup on the Badge: More Real Life Adventures of a Volunteer Police Officer

Rate this book
You know the man you’re talking with is senile. One moment he’s telling you that his wife has been dead for many years, in the next, he’s telling you he’s waiting for her to join him for dinner. And there’s nothing you can do to help him.

Ketchup on the Badge is the sequel to the highly popular, One Shining Moment, the Real Life Adventures of a Volunteer Police Officer.

In that book, the author questions and explores his motivations in volunteering his time as a Reserve Police Officer. In this sequel, the author relates other poignant and sometimes hilarious encounters he had while wearing the badge; all the while wondering if any of his time spent with the department ever really helped anyone...

How much can one person do? Ride along with this volunteer and experience a world most people never see. You’ll feel like you’re there.

“That’s a nice refrigerator,” I said. His eyes darted quickly to mine. “Where’d you get it?”

“Yeah! I just got it!”

“I see. Where’d you buy it?”

“Where’d I buy it? That was twice now he didn’t answer my question. He was obviously stalling while he thought up an answer.

“Where’d you buy it?” Stu asked flatly.

“Oh! Yeah! Where’d I buy it! Oh!” He shifted around in place for another few seconds and blurted out the name of a local appliance store.

“They have a lot of brands there,” I said. “Which one did you decide on?”

“Which one?”

“Which brand did you buy?” Stu asked.

“Oh! Yeah! I chose the black one.” It was sometimes hard for me to keep a straight face. Stu shot me a quick glance which barely concealed a wry smile.

“Not the color,” Stu said to him. “The brand. Who made it? Is it a Kenmore? Frigidaire? Westinghouse?”

I added, “Corolla? Camry? Maxima?”

“Oh, uhhh….” His eyes darted around as the noose grew tighter. All he had to do was turn his head and look at the refrigerator!
