Alles was onder controle. Totdat zij verscheen. Norah.
Jonger. Mooier.
Sally Rigby was born in Northampton, in the UK. She has always had the travel bug, and after living in both Manchester and London, eventually moved overseas. From 2001 she has lived with her family in New Zealand, which she considers to be the most beautiful place in the world. During this time she also lived for five years in Australia. Sally has always loved crime fiction books, films and TV programmes, and has a particular fascination with the psychology of serial killers.
You might think that the story about an ex-wife is one that was used so many times that it doesn't present any interest, but this is not true. Sally Rigby and Amanda Ashby found a new way to tell it.
Alice is under arrest and waiting for trial. She supposedly killed Norah, the fiancee of her ex-husband. Everything indicates that she is guilty. Nobody believes in her innocence.
None of the characters in the story are likable, but events are getting a few twists and you cannot put the story down. After the first half, I was already suspecting who might be the killer, but it didn't stop me from finishing the book and feeling the pleasure of reading a good story.
My life was perfect until she came along. Norah. Younger, prettier, and about to marry my own ex-husband, they are a walking cliche. I hate her. I hate them both. she's stolen everything from me - my husband, my life, my home - but I refuse to let her take Cassie, my beautiful daughter. Now I've discovered that Nora plans to have a baby of her own and that causes me no end of problems. She could destroy everything and reveal my deepest, darkest secrets.
Alice is on trial for the murder of her ex-husband's fiancé. The story goes back and forth, between past and present day, telling us of the events leading up to the trial. I wasn't sure how this story would resolve itself. I was not keen on any of the characters, so I wasn't really fussy if Alice was guilty or innocent. But there was something about the book that made me keep reading. There were a couple of good twists and a big one at the end.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the authors #SallyRigby #AmandaAshby for my ARC of #TheExWife in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third novel I've read by this duo of authors and far and away my favourite so far. It fair rattled along and got better and better as it did !! A couple of moments were proper shockers and at one point, I even uttered, "wow......" out loud as I read what happened. So it got very exciting towards the end, I have to say. I'm not usually a fan of teens in books as most of them are pretty vile but young Cassie is a nice kid, I thought. The adults around her had their flaky moments, but over all she was a sound youngster, with a good head on her shoulders for the most part AND she loved her little Hugo, which is always going to endear me to any character !! I have to quote this passage here as I really liked it, "....his mouth was set into a permanent smirk, as if he'd set a bomb somewhere and was waiting for it to go off." Another tremendous line is, "Everyone knew that misery loved dog videos" and I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment ! And anyone who gets covered in mud to comfort a strange dog would be AOK in my book as well, pardoning the pun. It has a very nice cover on it and I hope they retain this one. I was also educated as I hadn't seen the Harold Wilson statue mentioned in the story nor the Antony Gormley sea statues so I googled both after I just finished. The sea figures are especially fascinating. There were a couple of real laugh-out-loud moments in it, despite the seriousness of the tale itself. Now't wrong with a little bit of light relief and it doesn't go overboard in the least on the comedic front, trust me....I like my murderation taken seriously. The authors kindly sent me over an advanced copy so any mistakes I may have spotted I am sending to them directly.
The authors spin a tangled web. From the first page I was totally gripped and kept turning the pages long into the night. It is a darkly fascinating story. I love the vivid characterization and soon realised I hadn't got a clue who I could trust. The writing is brilliantly sharp and perfectly paced. There is twist after twist after twist and just about everyone has got a secret in their past. The plot itself is hugely affecting with layer-upon-layer of betrayal, innocence lost, guilt and revenge. It is intriguing, unsettling and fresh. This is compulsive and addictive and when I wasn't holding my breath I was gasping out loud at the latest shock revelation.
This is the third psychological thriller I've read by this exciting duo in the form of "Amanda Rigby". And I've not been disappointed yet. This time I was stumped, hoodwinked, baffled throughout most of the book without a clue as to what was going on and who was really behind it. Until...I really started to puzzle it out. And boy did this dup keep me on my toes! I did work it out before the reveals came and I was too busy giving myself a pat on the back to see that ending coming. Just no.
Alice Hargraves is a recently divorced fortysomething mother of seventeen year old Cassie. She had everything going for her - a wealthy husband, a promising career, a happy marriage...or so she thought. Until Mark dropped his bombshell that he wanted a divorce as he had met young and beautiful Norah and wanted to marry her. OK, so she could live with that...although she did nurse the hope that Mark would soon come to his senses, ditch the younger model and come back to her. But two weeks out from their wedding and that wasn't looking likely.
And then he drops another bombshell. Quite by accident. He and Norah are trying IVF. They are planning to have a baby together. No, this cannot be happening. Suddenly, Norah is threatening to take everything else away from her carefully laid plans and Alice couldn't let that happen. And so what ensues is one bad decision after another which ultimately leads to Alice sitting in a prison cell awaiting trial for murder. How did it come to this? How did she get here?
Meanwhile, Cassie is your typical moody seventeen year old who thinks they know what is best for themselves despite their parents being the better judge of that. This results in a lot of door slamming, flouncing off in a huff, walking out without a word, storming off on a whim and bad - very bad - boyfriend choices. What do parents know? They haven't been their age for like a hundred years...and anyway, it was different for them back then. They wouldn't understand and they don't know Scott like she does. Of course, Cassie has the freedom to bounce back and forth between her father's mansion and her mother's terrace on a whim or whenever one says something she doesn't want to hear. Problem is, dad's house comes with Norah who is just trying too hard to be her new best friend. Whatever. Bring on her gap year when she can escape to Portugal with Scott...if her parents ever agree to it, that is, because how can she afford it without her father's money anyway? And Scott won't go without her...will he? She doesn't need her parents' drama on top of her own so she needs this escape.
And then there is Norah, who has her own secrets. Unbeknownst her, Alice saw her arguing with a face from her past but from what is she hiding? Alice certainly wasn't close enough to hear their conversation but she could see enough to know that it was heated. And then she starts getting text messages from an unknown number blackmailing her with a video from her past into stealing drugs from the hospital where she works as a nurse practitioner in the oncology department. It begins with five boxes, followed by a further ten and then a ridiculous request for thirty! But before she could meet the latest demands, Norah is found dead. Who killed her? And why?
At the halfway point, the story takes a turn and is then told primarily from the detectives POV as they investigate Norah's brutal murder. They think they have the suspect in their crosshairs when they are thrown a curveball and all bets are off. Everything points to Alice. The weapon, the motive, even the opportunity. Alice had a secret to protect at all costs. But is she really guilty?
THE EX WIFE is a stunning psychological and domestic thriller where I turned the pages at the speed of light. The tension was palpable throughout and I was completely baffled as to where this was all headed. I mean, everything really did point to Alice. But who would want to frame her? And why? If you could answer that, then you'd be halfway there. But there is no inkling throughout. Nothing. Until...a slight tiny little chink of light started to peek through. And I grasped it with both hands until I could make sense of it and had all the pieces. And then it hit me! All of it...until the very end. Like I said, I was too busy patting myself on the back to see that ending coming...and I was hugely disappointed with it.
The characters were a mixed bunch that I could take or leave. Alice made a lot of stupid decisions that made her look half crazy, and even stalkerish, but I liked her. I wasn't a fan of Mark purely for the fact that he could so easily dump his wife of fifteen years for a younger woman. And Norah, I didn't much like her for the same reason. Scott was a creep that just slithered around for opportunity - I didn't trust him one bit. And Felix was a little too good to be true.
In a tale that is layer upon layer of secrets, lies and betrayal...and ultimately revenge, THE EX WIFE is an intense and addictive read from start to finish...until the disappointing end which I thought was something of a letdown, all things considered. But one thing is for certain...it will keep you guessing.

At first you would expect this book to be like many others, where there are divorces and ex spouses. However, this book took a pleasant turn of events where I found myself conflicted with whom I felt was the person to root for.
You have a standard family with a mother, a daughter and a father. Then you have a pretty typical divorce where the father decides to remarry the teenage daughter is slightly rebellious and tends to do things for the shock factor to her parents.
The new fiancé for the husband is trying to make everything work and make one big happy home. What we don’t see is all of the secondary characters, and how major their roles really are in the story.
For me, that was a pleasure to read and kept my attention throughout the entire book, because each secondary character was so heavily involved in one way or another.
The last chapter was amazing, and definitely exceeded my expectations to what I thought was going to happen.
The ending was great, and I would love to see a second book and find out how everything actually ends up for Alice and Cassie.
This was one of those books that was enjoyable to read but didn't leave a lasting impression. Much of the dialogue sounded unnatural, and I found the plot line rather trite; however, I see this duo has written other books, so I'm definitely going to check them out to make sure it was just this book that missed the mark.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the early copy. THE EX-WIFE will publish April 19, 2023.
The best part of this book was the reveal at the end. I was quite surprised and did not expect it. However, it was a painfully shallow and drawn-out story, so it felt like a long time to get to that nugget.
The characters weren't relatable or likable. I needed way more depth. There was also zero emotional depth. I believe this what some would call a "popcorn thriller." Light and airy with not much substance.
I can see readers who don't want to have to think or feel too much gravitating to this book and enjoying it. It was strictly a bunch of messed up characters making poor decisions and fighting amongst each other. The murder mystery was the only aspect I enjoyed.
The audio performance was just okay. I've heard worse, and I've heard better.
Alice Hargraves is facing the charges of murdering her ex-husband’s fiancée Norah – Alice’s life was all perfect until Norah enters her life unexpectedly and that is when Alice’s husband Mark realizes he has been leading a mundane life with a wife who has no new aspirations. After getting divorced Alice is finding it hard to work and maintain her life plus her daughter. Right when she thought Norah is all set to marry Mark, Alice learns that Norah and Mark are trying for a child and all the IVF treatments might reveal a secret about Cassie’s birth! Alice wants to ensure that Norah doesn’t bring out the well-hidden secret. Norah’s brother Felix employs Cassie ( Mark & alice’s daughter) and slowly learns about her boyfriend Scott. Scott seems a bit too shady and has something to hide but no one knows what that is. As the story unfolds in the current and the past, this was a well written book! Thanks to Netgalley, Sally Rigby & Amanda Ashby, Boldwood books for the NG widget
I’m still not sure what I just read. I definitely didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it either but found it very slow to really get good. Then the last like 4 chapters you can’t stop reading because it’s all unraveling, but it still isn’t tied up with a neat bow.
Everyone thinks Alice killed her ex husbands new fiancée. They also think she killed her daughter boyfriend who was blackmailing the fiancée. Well that’s not true. Turns out Mark isn’t really Cassie’s bio dad. Alice actually isn’t her bio mom. Alice’s sister Jasmine is. Jasmine had Cassie (aka lily) with Skunk aka Felix. Felix was an addict and thought Jasmine killed herself along with their child. In reality she killed herself and left her daughter with Alice who tricked Mark into think she was his. Cassie lived a great life until she found out her parents aren’t her parents. At the end Cassie stabs and kills Felix but Alice takes the blame and the book ends with her getting arrested for killing him. That was a shit ending.

- hey? I said so? I don't want to speak to her? Never?
- I was such a bitch to you?
اعصابم رو بهم ریخت و لذت کتاب رو واقعا واقعا کم کرد. البته اینکه دختر نوجوون شخصیت اصلی هم خیلی عوضی بود کمکی نمیکرد.
Alice and her husband Mark have divorced she’s trying to raise her daughter Casey without living in the lap of luxury she was used to with her husband her and her daughter Casey have not been getting along so she’s been staying with her dad and his new fiancé Nora something that drives Alice to distraction. She becomes so consumed with it she even starts following Nora around so when Nora goes missing in this found dead Alice is the prime suspect her daughters boyfriend has also been found deceased something else they blame Allison for they say she was a very overprotective mother because when I was younger she lost her sister Jasmine due to drug addiction and she doesn’t want the same ending for her beloved Casey The bad things no one knows and if Alice doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life in prison and to keep Casey safe she’s going to have to come clean. I have read sally Rigby books for years and this is the first thriller of hers that I have read and I think she has done a wonderful job I know this was cowritten with Amanda ASB a writer I’m not so familiar with but will definitely look for her books in the future. This is not only a great thriller but I thought the way she makes the detective instructor look only shows what a great talent she has. I loved this book and highly recommend it! I hope this is just the beginning for Miss Rigby‘s thriller career as I said she has been one of my favorite riders for many years I received this book from NetGalley in BoldWoodBooks but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
The Ex-Wife is the third book in this exciting new and combined venture between Sally Rigby and Amanda Ashby.
A recently divorced wife is accused of murdering her young, pretty and seemingly perfect replacement. Things are complicated and the story weaves between the past and present with really unexpected and surprising twists along the way and the biggest and most surprising twist at the very end.
This is a very clever and gripping tale of how easily one’s life can change and unravel at a moment’s notice and impact on many other lives.
If you haven’t read the first two books in the series - published under ‘Amanda Rigby’ - I can recommend both books (I Will Find You and Remember Me).
What a brilliant, twisting thriller this is. It’s a wonder I didn’t put my back out, I was turned in so many directions.
The book opens with Alice on trial for the murder of her ex-husband’s fiancée & her daughter’s boyfriend. In court, her air is one of acceptance & it appears that the only unknown is how long the prison sentence will be. We are then thrown to six months previously & shown the torturous route to present day.
I rarely read a book in a day, but this was one. I didn’t know who to believe or what clues to follow. Neither do the police. A don’t blink you might miss something read, which makes for a fabulous standalone.
I didn't see the end coming... which really feels that this needs a Part 2. Didn't see the twists and turns ...It was brilliant once i reached about 65% 70% of the book. More than half of the book felt slow until it didn't. SO MANY TWISTS. It a good read 📚 👌
I love the fact this is a modern suspense/whodunit that isn't gaslighting. As a reader we aren't exactly sure what is going on, but realize not everything is right. I enjoy Rigby's book and easily get absorbed in them.
How did this book find me? I'm a fan of the author.
One of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. Full of plot twists that entertain even if they are not entirely believable. My favorite character is DI Belinda who was a breath of fresh air and saved the day.
Review for 'The Ex-Wife' by Sally Rigby and Amanda Ashby
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sally Rigby, Amanda Ashby, Boldwood Books and Rachel's Random resources Tours.
Publication date 19th April 2023
This is the first book I have read by either of these authors
I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'A brand new psychological thriller that will keep you guessing till the end! Perfect for fans of Sue Watson, Nina Manning, Shalini Boland.' I am a huge fan of all three of Shalini Boland and Sue Watson so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Boldwood. I have yet to read a book published by Boldwood that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 27 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Alice Hargraves, Cassie Hargreaves, Norah Richmond and DI Belinda Day. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
WHAT did I just read!!!! WOW!!! I mean seriously Wow!! I was NOT expecting that lot fair play!!! This has GOT to start with a MASSIVE WELL DONE SALLY AND AMANDA!!!! Ooopps sorry, yes, needed a minute to get over that but I've just left you hanging there... Sorry.... Let me tell you more...
Firstly let's start off with the writing style, etc!! This book is an extremely well written book by this amazing author which had me hook line and sinker!!! It is so smoothly and beautifully written with vivid descriptions I completely forgot I was even reading a book a few times. The blurb, title and cover really fit the storyline. Sally and Amanda work perfectly together to create an absolutely explosive and addictive storyline that had me hooked from the gripping first chapter to the absolutely shocking ending!!!
As you can tell I LOVED the storyline. I found it to be realistic, very fast paced and I read it in just several hours!!! I loved the setting and atmosphere and just well... Everything!!! Twists after shocks after turns!!! Arggghhh... Its so hard to NOT say anything about them as it will give too much away and spoil it for future readers but it definitely left me speechless over and over!!! I have read hundreds of psychological books and it gets harder and harder to keep my interest and to shock me but these fantastic authors managed it hook, line and sinker Just brilliant fair play and all links in and wraps up perfectly!!! Alice Hargreaves is on trial for the murder of her ex husband Mark's new fiancee Norah along with something else that I will not mention as I do not want to spoil it for future readers. All the evidence points in her direction and as the saying goes 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!' Alice has accepted her fate and is just waiting to see what she is sentenced to. Sally and Amanda take us back to 6 months ago and to what led to this trial. We see the relationships between Alice, her daughter Cassie, her ex husband Mark, Mark's new fiancée Norah, Cassie's new boyfriend Scott and Norah's brother Felix. I will go into more details of what I thought of the characters later in my review. During the book Sally and Amanda weave the storyline along with the past and present together perfectly and leading the readers up to some extremely explosive twists that I would never have seen coming. I cannot remember the last time I flew through a book so quickly. Each and every time I went to put it down to do something my fingers were itching to pick it back up as I just HAD to know what happened next!! Amanda and Sally's evocative writing skills ensure you are sucked deep into the storyline seeing everything that is happening and feeling the tension, stress and suspense that each of the main characters are going through. My heart was in my throat throughout reading this fast paced, gripping and gritty psychological thriller! This may be the first book I have read by these amazing authors but if all their books are like this I cannot wait to get stuck into them and I have added all their previous books to my wish list already and look forward to what they come out with next!! It is ram packed with family, lies, twists, heartbreak, twists, friendship, tension, stress, suspense and everything you could ask for in a psychological thriller. I can't say more than that as I don't want to spoil it for future readers so if you want to know you'll have to grab yourself a copy!! You won't regret it!!
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture
Just like with the storyline the characters come to life with Sally and Amanda's fantastic writing skills. They are well rounded, realistic and strong making them all the more believable. Alice's life falls apart as she is arrested for the murder of her ex husband Mark's new fiancee along and her ex husband and daughter shun her. Being a parent myself my heart absolutely broke for Alice as she not only had to deal with the heartbreak of losing her husband but also deal with the attitude and problems that come with raising a teenager that has her own problems along with a family seperation added. I really liked AAlice but I could have shouted at her on a few occasions for some of the things that she did. However, it feels like she cant do right for doing wrong when it comes to her daughter Cassie and while she dislikes her new boyfriend Scott, neither do Mark, Norah or Felix, Cassie does what the majority of teenagers do and the more her parents didn't want her to do something the more she pushed against them. Regardless of how annoyed at Cassie |I was at times my heart also went out to her as she was going through problems with Scott along with the breakdown of her family. Where most teenagers would go completely off the rails I do believe that Cassie's behaviour was pretty mild compared to most others would have been. I actually liked Norah too and although she did get engaged to Mark not long after he separated from his wife, she was not the one who had been in a relationship so she didn't really do anything wrong and she was actually a likeable character. I wasn't a huge fan of Mark but I will say that he didn't slate Alice in regards to her parenting skills and they did try to do their best and work together with Alice for Cassie. The only one I actually didn't like was Scott who I didn't trust from the start and didn't like the way he was with Cassie. I won't go into more details as I don't want to risk giving anything away but Amanda and Sally really have done an amazing job constructing an addictive and explosive psychological thriller with fantastic and varied characters that you just won't be able to put down!!
Congratulations Sally and Amanda on an explosive success!!! Welcome both to my favourite author club!! Here's to many more successes 🥂!!!
Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!! "
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first chapter of Sally and Amanda's 'Remember Me?' which looks just as addictive as this one and one Im looking forward to reading myself!
Overall an absolutely page turning, addictive, gripping and explosive must read that will keep you addicted from the very start to the fantastic ending!!!

Blurb
My life was perfect until she came along. Norah.
Younger, prettier and about to marry my own ex-husband, they are a walking cliché.
I hate her. I hate them both.
She’s taken everything from me – my husband, my life, my home - but I refuse to allow her to take Cassie, my beautiful daughter. That's a step too far.
Now I’ve discovered that Norah plans to have a baby of her own and that causes me no end of problems. She could destroy everything and reveal my deepest, darkest secrets.
That can never be allowed to happen.
No matter what it costs…
My Opinion
This book starts with Alice being on trial for the murder of he ex-husband's fiancee and switches between the past and the present to catch the reader up. From the first chapter I was hooked on this book and I had to keep reading to find out if Alice was guilty or not. There is an awful lot going on in this book with a lot of twists and turns.
This is the first book I have read by this combination of authors, but with such an enjoyable, well-written novel, I am sure that I will be back for more.
First, I want to thank Sally Rigby, Amanda Ashby, Boldwood Books, NetGalley and last but not least Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
WOW!!! Sally Rigby and Amanda Ashby make an amazing crime writing duo! Combined those two created a unique, fresh, addictive, twisted and fast paced read in The-Ex Wife.
Oh Sally and Amanda know how to capture my interest, grab my attention, and have me hooked just from the prologue alone! They just threw you in the middle of the craziness of the story-and I loved it!! It had a little bit of everything to want you to read on!
OMG if you like drama-family drama- then this book will be up your alley! Oh they definitely packed that in!
Sally and Amanda incorporated a very important subject IVF into the storyline. I found it very interesting.
I often wonder sometimes what the inspiration or motivation is from the stories I read. This time around I wondered which author came up with this twisted read. Not to mention I wondered which author wrote which part.
Alice once had it all—a perfect family complete with a rich husband, a beautiful house, and a daughter she adored. Then came Norah… Alice now lives in a house that is a considerable step down from her old one with its beautiful garden and her light-filled studio. She’s struggling to make ends meet as an illustrator, something that used to be just a hobby but now must pay the bills. Mark now loves someone else, and Cassie is resentful of her new life. Alice finds out that Norah plans to have a baby of her own and that poses many problems. All the deep, dark secrets that Alice has kept hidden for years risk being exposed. Alice must do whatever it takes to make sure that doesn’t happen. This novel is a page-turner…one minute you’ll think you have it all figured out, then there’s another twist and you’re back to trying to figure it out all over again. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys mysteries and thrillers. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #TheExWife
