The book was o.k., wasn't the best wasn't the worst. It had some boring parts and had some parts that had some action. It was interesting how the military personnel had to handle the situation from start to end. And the ending was o.k. as well. But it wasn't a bad ending.

This is a great kids book with lots of good messages and an interesting plot. I love that there are word definitions at the beginning of each chapter, helped me learn new words and I am an adult! I do feel like the ending wasn't very satisfying and it was a bit hard to keep up with characters, but that is probably my fault since this is #6 in a series and I didn't know that 😅

Carl bowen is an author that likes to write books to that entertain kids that like to read his type of books and his books are mostly for 4th-6th graders but these books are really good to read. The book is about a these navy people that go to antarctica to get secure a crashed aircraft but its hard for them to go get it cause it is hard to go get because there are people that are protecting it . the main character is Ryan cross and he is the commander of his team that are in antarctica, he has more intelligence than anyone else like he can tell if there something wrong in the areas that they are in.
Cross and his crew had to get a crashed aircraft causenthe aircraft was theirs and they didn’t want russia to get to it cause they would make a weapon at whatever was in the aircraft. Russia already had special forces on them, when they got to antarctica their camp was not that big so probably no one would think that there to steal for them to use on the other people. The first people went on their journey to go get the aircraft and they used carbon fiber ski-shoes while they were on their way a sniper from a different army was shooting at them. They couldn’t go anywhere or they would got shot so they had to stay in spot for awhile and they couldn’t do anything without getting caught. So cross had a plan to make a decoy of someone was looking through the binoculars so the sniper would look at that and shoot at that so someone else could get a shot at the sniper.
This was fun book to read because these types of books actually entertain me a lot and i like books that do that. I would recommend these books to kids that like to read carl bowen books because they are a lot of fun to read and they will entertain the kids that like to read these types of books. My favorite part of this book would have to be when they had to try to find a way to make it so they can kill sniper so none of them will get killed and how cross was smart enough to make a decoy to make it look like someone looking through the binoculars. The book was easy to read and didn’t have any hard words in it so i didn’t have to get confused on a certain word and it was kinda predictable cause in a lot of books like these something bad will happen most of the time.

Phantom Sun
By Carl Bowen

At the start of the book Lieutenant Commander Ryan Cross is part the shadow squadron. Cross and the team they are in the briefing room in there they got coffee. They looked at the window they thought they saw a meteor so they set up a search team to find meteor they took a helicopter to antarctica. When they got there cross looked at the sun and the phantom sun. when they landed they was a town with no people in it they we someone his name was Bill Dyer he is from the phantom cell dyer said the meteor was not a meteor it is a sattlet. The Russians were near the satellite site cross said we should take the snowmobile but dyer said we should go ski’s because the snowmobiles and to loud but the ski’s are quiet. When they got to the site there was a Russian sniper that shot dyer and walker. Then cross got the satellite and put in a sled then cross made a plan with the russian if he gave him the satellite he would live them alone he gave it to him and he went off dyer asked walker do you want to join the phantom cell then at the end cross said a shiver went up his spine one that had nothing to do with the antarctic cold.

This was a very good book. It was well illustrated and was very thrilling. This series of books is about a team of elite soldiers from all branches of the army, this is the 6th book, I have not read the first four, but i am now reading the 5th. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in military fiction.

Excellent book series. Quick reads. Great graphics. Action-packed. (Read them twice, a rarity for me)

I have mixed emotions about this book. It is a very fast-paced, short and sweet book. However, it is very short and misses some key things to fully develop the plot and help you understand it. This book is only 100 pages long, so what can you expect? You can expect a quick risky adventure of a secret operations team hunting down a drone in Antarctica but is also on a race with Russia to get to it first. *WARNING SPOILERS* Then, the Americans get ambushed by the Russians, and it leads to 1 Russian casualty. The Americans obtain the drone, but finds scientists hostage. So, they give the Russians the drone for the hostages. THE END. It was a very good book, but lacks suspense and action. I picked up this book waiting to read action, adventure, and war. But, it's more of a developing story for the continuous books in the series. I would reccomend this book to readers interested in the series later on where there's more action. But other than that, I wouldn't reccomend this book.

Pros and Cons
+ Quick and Fast-paced
+ Good setup for the later books in the series
------------------------------------------------------
- Lack of suspense
- Ends with no cliffhanger

I'm on page 31. This book is about how a group of "soldiers," who are called the Shadow Squadron, have seen a video in Antarctica that some scientist took about something that looks like a meteorite but it isn't a meteorite. They don't know what it is and the cant get communication with the scientist so they go to Antarctica to get the scientist, find out what the thing was in the video, and get it to the scientist to experiment. Now I'm in the part where they are in the helicopter flying to Antarctica. That's what my book is about

So, I have to read 80 children's books for one of my classes and this one takes place in Antarctica so I thought it would be a good choice.

I was so wrong.

How can you set a book in Antarctica and mention the snow/cold a total of 4 times? I'm serious. They don't even wear facemasks!

There were other problems too, like one dimensional characters, a really dumb plot, and a flat ending, but by far the worst issue was that waste of a setting. Good grief.

A quick read based on a special secret operation team in Antarctica sent to retrieve a Chinese drone, bedore the Russians. One tricky ambush as the American patrol approaches the drones landing site leads to the death of one soldier. Earpiece negotiations save 41 scientists but lose the drone.

Short simple adventure with simple comic style illustrations.
