*********
Whatever was, is, and shall be is my enemy. If it has cells, if it needs light or air or water, it loses control when I'm near. I am profoundly wrong for this world. I will never be able to hide in a crowd...

Michael Carmichael was a normal man—until the careening downward plunge of his life culminated in a near-fatal skiing accident. He should have died in the icy waterfall where he crashed, but he became the exception to the rule no being was ever meant to break.

Now Michael is not quite a man, nor is he alive or dead. His image in the mirror is inexplicably, but undeniably, different. The voices of others echo in his head. And as his inward metamorphosis brings the wrath of the natural world upon him, he must venture back to the waterfall to reclaim his soul from those who plan a crueler fate for him...

Hello, fans and friends. If you're new to this page, I am a writer with some 90 published novels and short stories. My work is broadly ranged from a USA Today Bestseller to a Pulitzer Prize nommed literary satire (THE PHASES OF HARRY MOON, hardcover, Dutton) to thrillers in print, audio and e-books, including my new blockbuster original CASE WHITE in e-book. Links for all my novels are on my web site below. I’ve spoken on writing in broadly ranged venues from American schools to the House of Literature in Oslo, Norway.

Recreation is a big part of my life. I spend a couple of hours a day in the woods, cc skiing, blading, hiking or in the pool working out. I also write a free monthly column over on Storytellersunplugged.com and send out a free newsletter (Sullygrams...) once a month as well. Both can be accessed at my author's web site, along with photos and more bio. If you'd like to visit my web page, here’s the link: http://www.thomassullivanauthor.com/ You can also friend me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thomas.sulli... .

It started with an accident. Michael “Bowie” Carmichael was skiing when he veered off course and into the waterfall. Freezing beneath its icy waters, he could only watch as new tragedy was struck. Not far from where his brain was slowly shutting down a bus full of people met their fiery end. Nineteen people burned to death while Bowie turned to ice. Revived and taken to the hospital, Bowie is met with news of how lucky he is to be alive, but something happened on the verge of his near death. A vast and terrible thing turned its inhuman gaze upon him. A hole in the universe with a plan for Bowie and the nineteen souls that died along with him. Now Bowie must find a way to exorcise his ghosts before they exorcise him.

This is one of those books you find in a bargain bin and think ‘this sounds pretty good’, and you know what? It actually is.

This is one of those rare gems that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. This is a very well written ghost story. There are many interesting scenes that manage to impart a growing sense of dread as Bowie struggles to deal with his otherworldly visitors, especially when it starts to effect what he is writing, and the ending really tied it all together.

A really good story of possession and souls. This remains one of my all-time favourite book bin finds.

Mostly "meh". There were something interesting things about this book, but there were a lot more things that left me wondering when it was going to get interesting.

And I really don't understand why Beckie would just instantly believe Micheal's story and pretty much go along happily with whatever he wanted to do. Yes, she's grieving, but he's a total stranger, and not entirely coming across as sane.
