But she is unprepared for the immediate desire she now feels for the sexy vampire.Despite saving her life, Val has no interest in feeding from the curvy human. It will be weeks before her need for him wears off, if she doesn’t go mad first, and he has no wish to have her pining after him and begging him to feed from her again or worse – have sex with her. Gravely injured and with no other choice, he feeds from Abigail and is intoxicated by the sweet taste of her blood. Determined to claim her, his obsession with her grows as she fights her undeniable attraction to him. When Abigail is taken from him, Val will do whatever it takes to find her. Author’s This is a novella of 27,000 words. It contains explicit and steamy sex scenes that may not be your cup of tea. PLEASE This novella ends in one hell of a cliff-hanger, and Abigail and Val's story continues in The Vampire's Love, Book Two.

I'm glad I got this as a freebie. Cliffhanger notwithstanding, it wasn't a complete story. There was zero worldbuilding, poor character development for the main characters, and zero for the side characters. And it was filled with errors. This was more like a rough draft outlining the story.
This would have been bad enough, but the hero, when he first meets the heroine, saves her life and then proceeds to fat-shame her in a really unkind manner. I get that he might have his own preferences for what he finds attractive, but there was no call for his comments. The heroine calls him out later for this behavior, but he never apologized or groveled, only said he finds her beautiful.
I skimmed a good portion because this was the kind of book where you don't really need to be paying attention to know what's going on.
Anyway, this gets two stars instead of one because I thought the idea was interesting, and I didn't utterly hate it. If it had been developed a LOT more, this could have been a decent book.
Three and a half Ok I decided to read this book as I'd seen a friend recommend it and note that it's the first book in a series about the Other World. From the first page our heroine Abby is transported to a different dimension with no idea how or why. I liked Abby she's had a horrendous life up until now ( no spoiler) and isn't the typical paranormal female as she's not teeny tiny with doe eyes and a flat butt, no she's very curvy and really not that good at attracting guys. Yet she finds herself being fought over by Vampires and then told for her own safety she will have to travel with them. I won't lie I didn't care for Val the supposed hero as he's a total armpit and it was really hard to find redeeming qualities. Val is extremely rude, insulting and yet does ( finally!) have some feelings. I did like the ideas here and the creatures who we are introduced to though as it added a light touch. Due to Abby giving blood initially to Val she's really in quite a quandary and her iron will really impressed me . Plus Abby can detach herself with an almost zen like focus that I hadn't seen done in similar books so that grabbed my attention. This is a first in series so does unfortunately suffer because of that as the world building and explanations still need working on. However I must say its a story that doesn't shy away from physical attraction and the pleasures of the flesh ( wink wink) but it didn't quite work for this reader . It ends on a cliffhanger so if you want to see the romance progress you will need to read The Vampires Love.
Okay look. There are shitty Heroes that you cannot help but love, but then there are Heroes that are just so shitty that you would want to drown them in acid bath. And ladies and gentlemen, the Hero in this book is the latter.
I'm sorry. Everyone has a type and I guess it's all fine and dandy, but I don't want my Heroes to make the heroine feels like shit just because she doesn't fit his standards. I'm not okay with the Hero calling the heroine fat, making it as if it's a bad thing and then humiliates her in front of everyone. JUST NO.
I'm giving this book a 2 star because of the world building but that's just it. The cliffhanger ending makes me curious so I'll give the second book a try.
I love it! This is the second book by this author that I have read and I am definitely impressed. Gray is a wonderful new talent with amazing talent and writing ability. Her writing flows with great ease and grace and the dialog is smart and flows brilliantly. This is not the same old tired vampire story. I was totally enthralled. Exciting! Action Packed! Well Written! Original! Smart! Romantic! Sweet! Sensual! Sexy! Oh,and did I mention hot! Oh yeah! I eagerly await her next release, The Vampire's Love.
What a great beginning to a promising series...I'm hooked and have already purchased the next 2 instalments.
Abby gets mysteriously whisked away to a parallel universe where vampire's are common-place but technology is not. She gets rescued by a group of humans and 2 vampires who are working with them. Abby is a voluptuous BBW and Val immediately tells her that she's fat and ugly...what a jerk.
When Val is injured in her rescue attempt she agrees to save him with her blood. This creates an intense connection between them.
Liked it, just wish it would have been longer, it felt rushed but the story is good and I will be reading the next book, which just came out. The world that the author has created, even though we only know a portion of it, is scary and am curious to see where this goes.
This tale was an okay read. I had many issues. Absolutely no plot detail. This chubby girl is transported to a parallel universe with no explanation of why or what the parallel universe is. I had trouble with the Vampire Val. No self talk narrative as to why he suddenly fell in love with the chubby girl. Yeah, he called her chubby a lot. We were given an understanding as to why he wanted to feed from her so badly, but why all of a sudden he thought she had become beautiful to him? I got past the lack of character and plot detail thinking it was because it was a short story, nope there was a major cliffhanger. I'm not sure there will be any detail given in book 2, so I will be skipping this series.
Wow, can you be much more of an a**? There's something wrong with a book that makes me hate someone and then says, "Oops, he's the hero. Surprise!" Ok I get that there are different body types, and you can't always have skinny heroines, but REALLY?! He kept calling her fat every five minutes! To her face every single time, and in front of everyone else at least once! The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the world building, which was actually interesting, although contradictory and confusing at times.
Interesting take on a paranormal world. Unique in a way. I enjoyed the story up to the cliffhanger ending. I'm personally NOT a fan of those. However, as an introduction to a new series, the story was well written with sexy bits and a mild amount of intrigue.
The eroticism is good, but I have no idea where this story is going and the characters really don't incite any type of emotion toward them. What's the plot?
It seems like I'm on my way somewhere all the time so I really have no time to read good stuff. So today I continue my journey through free vampire reads I downloaded some time ago. On the bright side, I'm almost dome with my free Kindle stuff, which means I'll soon move to the rest I have in my PocketBook. And then free read no more! (yeah, how many times have I actually said this...) This book - let's use this term even though I have my doubts - was incredibly short. Like, it ended before it even started! And that sucks because this woman was sucked into an alternative universe where vampires have beating hearts and sometimes feelings but keep humans addicted to their bite and they can die of illnesses... and there are other cool creatures - see, that's very interesting but the story mostly centers about the chubby heroine whose life was saved by a vampire who made not so nice remarks about her body and who saved his life by giving him blood in return but got hooked on his bite. So, there is this inner struggle to not to let him bite her again. And they both are addicted to each other in couple of days and then there are the hot scenes. As if we needed more heat these days. Everyone is drenched in sweat because of the weather and this doesn't help. You know what else doesn't help? Obviously this was just a teaser because our heroine is snatched from her vampire and that's it. I hate cliffhangers, why do people do this?! It's unfair. Would I buy the "sequel" (see, I think it's just one book divided into more parts because ... money)? No! I'm angry that I didn't get the whole story and that my time was wasted so you can shove the rest up your arse, you sneaky publisher or author or whoever came with such a ridiculous idea!
Abigail wakes up in another world where vampires are apparently everywhere. She is rescued from some bad vampires by a "good" vampire who feels the need to constantly call her fat. Abigail then saves his life by offering to feed him which results in them becoming obsessed with each other and Abby going a little nuts. My biggest problem is that Val's previous fat shaming is never really addressed. She calls him out at first but he just says no you're beautiful and she lets it go. I don't know, I just wasn't ok with it. Besides that, there wasn't much world building and the woman was super creepy. She met Abigail for a minute and started calling her "my love"...what was that about?
sorry not a fan of books that don't end unless they keep going but with different characters and different things happen and the others r in it.. in this one Abigail wakes up in another world. not sure how she got there. she wakes up in the woods all dirty and clothes torn. when she thinks she just has to walk a little bit to get to a town she is stopped by two men who r vampires. when Val saves her he is still mean and hateful but at least he saves her from death by draining. didn't care for the book r the story..
Once I started this book I couldn't put it down until it was done, and even then I almost immediately bought the second book. However reality quickly jumped in and reminded me I have to wait for my self-imposed book allowance lol. Value and Abby's story leaves you wanting in more ways than one, and all of them are sweet and pleasurable. Ramona Gray is a genius and it is displayed perfectly with this alternate reality!
I loved this book. I would reccommend it to any one who likes paranormal contemporary romances, vampire romances, and maybe a little bit of capture romances. It has such a foods story line and is kinda realistic. Awesome and The more you stay away the !ore drawing it is.
I loved this book, did not want to put it down!! Abigail was my favorite, she is a very strong woman to endure everything she has in her childhood and still have a will to fight when she is thrown into a situation where you are not sure if you will see the next day!! Can't wait for the next book!!
I was very disappointed to find that this was basically just another smut story. I fell in love with the concept of this story when I read the blurb and kept looking for more in the story but it didn't come. I really did love the cliffhanger ending and am kinda looking forward to the next book and am hoping that it is more of a story and less like a smut fanfic
Ramona Gray really need to work on her writing skill. While reading this, I kept asking myself if a high schooler wrote this piece. I'm definitely going to give her another chance. But if her storyline delivery continues to falter, I would definitely be taking a long break from reading her piece again. The one star was just for all my troubles.
Interesting and a new concept of vampires, in my realm anyway. Clever story, dangerous, steamy, explicit sex, fan yourself here. But the character development for Van could benefit from expansion. I loved the character Violet the pixie.
Race, freaky, scary, sad, exciting...wow. Good detail, fun change in story line.. exciting sex scenes.. recommend to those interested in Vampire's and old enough to read the sex scenes
It's fast paced. Abigail is likeable but Val not so much. There's no gore and the violence isn't graphic. There is no happy ending because there is a book two.
It's bad. It's very bad. The story is over before it begins, there is zero world building and the characters are flat and just killed off for the sake of the cliffhanger in the end... Do not recommend
