Kate Braxton has fallen into the role most women do by putting someone else’s needs above her own. In reality, she lives day to day unable to overcome the scars of her past to allow herself to move on with her life. Her divorce and a new job just might open the door to a brighter future for her.
Brayden Bennett is sexy and successful in the marketing firm he works for, but has been used and discarded by women, leaving him hurt and guarded. The beautiful new hire in Atlanta captures his attention in ways he didn’t think possible and he can’t help but wonder if she holds the key to his caged heart.
Kate is taking care of her ill father in Atlanta and Brayden’s son ties him to Chicago. Can they dare to dream of a future together? Can Kate survive the freak accidents that keep occurring, or will their relationship end in tragedy before they can figure out a way to be together?
I highly recommend Layla Merritt’s Distant Love, which will charm you with the beautiful romance between Brayden and Kate, the hero and heroine and heat up your Kindle! It is both sexy and suspenseful and has some heartrending scenes as the hero and heroine struggle to develop and maintain their new found love for one another across the miles, against all the odds. They not only have their own strong family ties to factor into their relationship, but have a jealous ex-girlfriend and their own emotional baggage to deal with, not to mention a series of unexplained accidents that begin to befall Kate….
Yet this novel is far from doom and gloom. It contains many erotic and sensual scenes, as Brayden and Kate take full advantage of their mutual desire when they find themselves in each others’ arms. Braydon is a real hottie with a true heart who certainly knows how to treat a woman in and out of the bedroom. He is bowled over by the sweet and sassy Kate when he encounters her in the course of their work.
It is a while before they meet in the flesh, having to content themselves with modern means of communication. The sexual tension therefore builds to a crescendo so that when they eventually meet the flames soon ignite in some scorching and achingly sweet scenes. Kate is juggling a new job with caring for her seriously ill father and has had her own share of tragedies and Brayden takes his responsibilities to his son very seriously, despite his ex-wife having custody.
The connection between the couple is strong physically and emotionally. Yet fate and certain individuals conspire against their HEA. Will ‘amor vincit omnia’ or will the distance, the actions of others and events outside their control shatter their chances of a future together?
There is a hugely satisfying ending, but there is clearly potential for a subsequent book. I strongly recommend Distant Love to romance readers who like sweet, sexy and suspenseful romance with erotic love making scenes between a couple deeply in love.
A copy of this novel was given to me by the author for the purpose of a far and honest review.
I have to say I loved this love story. I think every reader will be able to identify with the characters. Being in a relationship is hard enough, imagine falling in love with someone you’ve not met in person and they are 700 miles away, and when you do meet for the first time it’s like the sun and the moon collided.
This is exactly what happens to Brayden and Kate. Brayden Bennett is a sexy, intelligent and successful Social Networking Manager for GMI (Global Marketing Innovations) and a devoted loving father. Ever since his divorce it seems that most of the women he’s encountered use him. When he starts getting close they either break it off or just leave. Brayden’s on again off again lover (for lack of a better description) Lacey Roberts is his boss and Vice President of GMI. She’s a spoiled rotten, gets what she wants when she wants it type person. So when she broke it off with Brayden again he swore he was never going to let anyone close to him and into his heart. Yes he had feelings for her but he really didn’t love her.
Kate Braxton has a past history and not a very good one. Her Mom left her and her dad at a very young age, so it was just her and her daddy growing up. Kate met and fell in love with her husband in college and married shortly after graduation. When Will (her husband) turned out not to be what she expected things turned bad. He was a drunken, physically abusive man. While attending a party Will over indulged as usual and Kate wanted to drive them home. She was 8 months pregnant and didn’t want Will driving home drunk. Well you guessed it rather than cause a scene and take his wrath she let him drive, and suffered the consequences of that decision. With Will in jail for vehicular manslaughter, Kate going through a few years of therapy and her father being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer Kate had her walls up good and strong. When her divorce was finally final and her ex still behind bars Kate could finally move on.
When Teresa, Kate’s BFF got her a job at GMI things seem to be getting better. She wasn’t dating and had no desire to date she just didn’t trust men. This is where she met Brayden. What started out as mentoring turned into so much more. Their cute little texts back and forth and Brayden finally giving Kate his phone number and told her if she needed his assistance to call him. I don’t need to tell you what happens next. But that first phone call lead to 6 months’ worth of outside communications between the two of them and they were actually falling for each other. During this time Kate was still taking care of her dad and had hired a new nurse Clay. I got the feeling Clay had a crush on Kate and when two major incidents occurred I really at first thought it was Clay. (Enough said can’t tell you, you’ll have to read).
When a corporate meeting was called and all were to go to Chicago Brayden and Kate would finally get to meet in person. Kate knew she had to keep a poker face on at all times and she absolutely could not react to Brayden. During all this time just a heads up Lacey and her conniving ways was trying to get dirt on Kate and see if Brayden was having a fling with her. The witch that she is, she was doing everything in her power to keep the two of them apart. When Kate and Brayden finally met it was explosive. Think about it, 6 months of talking every night on the phone all that pent up sexual tension. Yeah need I say more. There were several surprise events in this read. Wait until you find out who was sabotaging Kate. I nearly choked. Layla great job on a great honest to goodness love story. BUT seriously the end OMG what are you doing? Seriously I doubt Lacey will that stupid to try and do anything to Brayden and Kate. Oh and I’m so glad Clay and Teresa hooked up. That is so cool. Oh and that scene at the grave yard where she asks her dad to watch out for her little guy broke my heart. I choked up. 5* Lady and congratulations on your first release. I expect to see great things from you.
