Heya, pal. It's Rusty, and I'm just as surprised as you are. Right when me and Piper thought we'd had the wildest adventure in the cosmos, Mike and Jenna waltzed in, dressed to the nines, with grins on their faces and a yarn of their own to spin.
See, Jenna’s got feelings for Mike she ain’t ready to share, but you can't play hard-to-get when one of your passengers is a big blue slug who can read your emotions like an interstate billboard. Toss in Karlie and Feebee, the galaxy’s most lovable agents of mayhem, and things go off the rails faster than a circus train on ice.
Grab your popcorn and buckle up, this one's gonna be a tall tale for the ages.
No Stress Space Express is a series about finding your true family, told with the common-sense wisdom of Jerry Boyd's Bob and Nikki series (Bob's Saucer Repair), and the low-stakes world building of Travis Baldree's Legends & Lattes. Join Rusty and his crew for a heart-warming, laugh-out-loud adventure with no tension, and no drama. Just good clean fun, great friendships, and a little romance too.
Jack Bodett lives at the corner of duct tape and destiny. His humorous science-fiction tales are populated by folks who are equally good at building spaceships and building friendships. He believes that with a good sense of humor, a willingness to help others, and a well-stocked tool belt, anyone can bang together their own happy ending.
Jack Bodett returns for the fourth novel in his No Stress Space Express series -- Gentlemen Prefer Martians: A Cozy, Low-Stakes, Slice-of-Life Sci-Fi Adventure.
The end of Book #3 teased us with a potential surprise. After getting separated from their companions, Rusty Ray Dixon and his Martian newlywed-wife, Piper Skyflare, spent a fair portion of that book on their own. When they were finally reunited with their dear friends, Mike Harlan and Jenna Moondrift, they found Mike and Jenna ... in wedding attire?
Well, Bodett's explanation for their "interesting" wardrobe isn't quite what many readers might have expected -- no spoilers, but it proves to be a more sticky situation than any eloping might have entailed. And while Rusty & Piper try to catch up on recent events, they (and the reader) are reminded that they aren't quite out of the woods just yet. The medical emergency that began in Book #2, and the erratic anomalies of gravity that sparked their separation in Book #3, aren't quite done with them yet -- those anomalies continue to give our friends a hard time ... and push the boundaries of that "Low-Stakes" subtitle.
But never fear, fans of the No Stress Space Express series. Rusty & Piper, Mike and Jenna, and their medical passenger, Doctor Saro, soon find their way onto a fun little "side quest." And rest assured, the plot also eventually finds its way back to a familiar even keel ... and maybe one more surprise before the final ending.
If you enjoyed the first three books, you'll enjoy Gentlemen Prefer Martians. The No Stress Space Express series continues to deliver a fun, (mostly) laid-back adventure, and I look forward to more to come.
The foursome continues living their new lives picking up directly from the ending of the third book. It is nice to have a break from saving the world crisis's of most books and read one that has more low key ordinary life events and not a villain in sight. One thing missing from these books is the giving of thanks for the food before eating. In reference to eating, I predict a future complication that comes up in future books is too much eating and the weight gain that goes along with it. That is a complication of ordinary life. I am sure there is humor in that plus the exercise programs these four come up with. Please keep the books coming.
The writing seems to be getting smoother, and the characters are starting to develop and take on a bit of life on their own. I like!
The characters have to carry the stories, the subtle made not one, not two, but at least 19 assumptions to make the story work. Like English is a galactic language? Martains? Boy Howdy!
Still, I am buying each book. So starved for Bob and Nikki stories - these kinda fill the bill. ;)
Started the series as replacement for the books of Jerry Boyd (RIP), and while they almost satisfy the itch, there is just a touch missing. Like Bob and Nikki, we never know the s,I ence behind the ships, and the almost Good Old Boys are trying yo be Bob and company. I miss Gene and his robot buddies
Fun,relaxed, easy read. I might even read it again sometime when I'm overwhelmed by life's complications, and stressful events. The plot twists and turns as side trips keep things from being predictable. Finished it with a smile and look forward to the next book.
A really nice series, great stories that keep you reading. One of my favourite science fiction writers. Anyone from adults to kids can read this series. No swearing no violence to ruin it, real family writing.
Rusty and the rest of the crew along with the other haulers are at the end of the humanitarian mission to Haffrin when the next adventure starts. And a few more after that. A great story.
These books are so fun! I've been wondering if they're young adult or not then I see a WKRP in Cincinnati reference that only people my age would get. LOL I would definitely recommend this series if you're looking to just let your hair down and have a good time
