In this first installment of the “Jake Stryker” series, Warren has created a fast paced and riveting story that you could imagine reading in today’s headlines.
Jake Stryker, one of the US Army’s lethal and highly trained Delta Force Operators, suspects leaks of classified information that lead to the death of his team in Afghanistan. When his tour of duty ends, Stryker returns to the United States to locate and punish those responsible. While investigating these leaks, he crosses paths with Rachel Cohen, a beautiful but deadly Mossad agent. While their goals appear to be vastly different with Stryker pursuing government leaks and Rachel chasing an Iranian terrorist, they form an unlikely union.
What they uncover is a network of corruption that leads them directly to the White House.
Warren Conrad is the author of a thriller series with Operations Compromised as his debut novel. In addition to having both State and Federal law enforcement experience, he has traveled the globe as an international investment banker, owned banks in Texas, and managed private equity investments both in the United States and Europe. He and his wife Kathy reside in Fort Worth, Texas.
“Operations Compromised” is the debut novel by Warren Conrad. In this fast paced thriller, Conrad introduces Jake Stryker, a former Delta Force operator who teams up with a team of Mossad when their goals align against Iranian terrorists.
While the novel has some flaws, it was still a fun read that I enjoyed. I'd like to read more adventures with Stryker to see where Conrad takes him. Stryker is pretty straight forward, and I hope more depth will be created with his character as the series develops. The dialog, especially with the romantic interest in the beautiful but deadly Mossad agent, is a bit stiff at times and I'm sure Conrad will find a groove as he continues.
The thing that bothered me most about the novel were a few of the tactical aspects. Calling magazines for the weapons clips, and most noticeably the throwing of his knife to stick into the bad guy. (This pure Hollywood trick happened not just once, but twice.)
Despite these few flaws, I had fun reading the tale and liked seeing tough guys (and women) in action against despicable bad guys. There was plenty of action, suspense, and intrigue to keep you reading and wanting to know what would come next. Quick, fun, action yarn that I look forward to seeing continue.
Operations Compromised is the first book in the Jake Stryker series. This can be read as a standalone but it does end in a soft cliffhanger for future books. There is violence. This is a well written thriller but the storyline and characters are average.
Conrad takes you inside events covering several years and actual events that have happened around the world involving terrorism and terrorists attacking the free world. Get ready for a thrilling ride.
