About the author

Joan G. Robinson (1910-88) trained as an illustrator and began writing and illustrating her own stories in 1939. Among her many stories for children are Mary-Mary, When Marnie Was There and the enduringly popular Teddy Robinson. Working closely with her husband, she published over thirty books in her lifetime, many of which were tried and tested on her own family. And her family sometimes found their way into her stories too - Teddy Robinson was a real teddy bear, belonging to Joan's own daughter, Deborah, who herself featured in the stories.

These are dear stories about a stuffy and slightly insecure teddy bear and his matter-of-fact owner. This is an excellent read-aloud for a precocious listener. The narrative voice is an exemplar of dry British wit and will keep an adult reader entertained.

One of the chief markings of a good children's book, in my opinion, is the author's ability to capture the wonders and mysteries of the world from a child's point of view. What are the indications that this was successfully done? When adult readers long for those childhood moments, and the kids listen with wide-eyed and rapt attention. My family found Teddy Robinson to be just such a book.

My daughters (3 and 5) begged to read the book, and gave up other activities near bedtime to get a few more minutes of Teddy Robinson. My wife and I took turns reading it out loud, and we both enjoyed the stories, too. I would easily rate this along with Twig and A Little Princess as one of my favorite kids books.

A delightful collection of 15 stories about Teddy Robinson and the young girl Deborah who owns him. Sadly these were not part of my own childhood but I’m sure I would have lived them.

Written in the 1950s and 60s they are charming,simple stories about rather ordinary events - a birthday party, going to the park, putting on a show for friends.

This was my favorite, favorite, favorite storybook as a small child. Teddy Robinson is a somewhat stuck-up, English teddy bear, and this story book contains short stories about his adventures with Deborah, the girl who owns him. My favorite stories in this book are Teddy Robinson Tries to Keep Up, Teddy Robinson's Concert Party, and Teddy Robinson Writes a Book. I recommend this book to all little kids out there.

As a very young child, I adored these stories. I am so, so happy to come back to them and find that they remain excellent. Teddy Robinson is a forthright and well-opinioned young bear, and his adventures are a delight. The illustrations are beautiful, and I am surprised to find that I remember all the rhymes in each story as soon as I see the first words. A wonderful thing to revisit, and something I shall keep by the bedside in case of the need for a short, amusing tale.

This is my favourite book.
When I was a little girl and would go and stay with my grandma, this is the story's she would read me. I have remember the little teddies adventures with his lady companion,as teddy Robinson puts it, ever since. It then became my mission to track down the stories of teddy Robinson so I could read them to my children. They enjoy them just as much as me and they have become our weekly bedtime story.
