This story of friendship explores how our differences can bring us together, and teaches children the power of spelling and word-use through alliteration
Lloyd Llama loves many things: lollipops, spelling, cello, and the color yellow—anything with a double L, really! Will he ever learn to get along with his new classmate Al Alpaca, who has an affinity for all things beginning with the letter A, like apples, art, and air guitar? The two characters settle their differences with the help of their favorite letters in this alliterative adventure.
I love books that call attention to the letters and words, it's perfect for early literacy story times! Even better when they have sweet stories and funny pictures!
One issue -- there's a typo in this book! It says "exlpore" instead of "explore" on one of the pages! I'll still use it in preschool story time :) I also sent a message to the publisher in case they hadn't noticed :-D
The first thing I noticed was the quality of the paper. This book is fun to touch. The story is about a llama and an alpaca who like different things, but then find they have some things in common. As the story is told, the letters of their likes are differently colored to help tell the story and also learn those letters.
This is one of our favorites. I don't know how many times we have read it, but it's a lot. Fun play on words while also teaching we can always find common interests!
Spunky and fun children's story about finding common ground, AND it's got BOTH a llama AND an alpaca. Additionally, a potentially delightful literacy tool for demonstrating alliteration.
Alliteration Definition "Alliteration is derived from Latin’s “Latira”. It means “letters of alphabet”. It is a stylistic device in which a number of words, having the same first consonant sound, occur close together in a series." http://literarydevices.net/alliteration/
"Awareness of rhyme and alliteration is a basic skill for phoneme sequencing. For both, there are two basic levels of awareness: discrimination and production." http://www.speech-language-developmen...

Lloyd Llama and Al Alpaca are huge fans of spelling. This is fortunate for them, because they are both very particular about the things they like based upon how the items are spelled! Lloyd Llama only likes things that contain a double “L” in their spelling: rollercoasters, lollipops and playing the cello. Al Alpaca particularly enjoys things that begin with the letter “A”: apples, art and action movies. Even though the two share this in common, they do not see eye-to-eye on much else. Can they find some common ground…perhaps some words that start with an “A” and also contain two “L”s?
“Lloyd Llama” is a spelling bee champ’s dream! It’s smart and funny and makes use of a great deal of useful new vocabulary words and lots of alliteration. It may be a mouthful for your child but it will certainly be a fun read for you and they to share together! The story delivers a great message about friendship and finding commonality through shared interests! The illustrations are filled with adorable, sweet llamas on bikes together, eating jelly toast together, in shades of pinks and blues. Read more at www.diapers-and-daydreams.com !
You know that old brainteaser kids like to tell each other? "When I enter through the green glass door..." I can take bees but not honey, wood but no sticks, etc. Well, in this book Lloyd likes jelly, lollipops, and his friend Stella the gazelle. Al the alpaca, however, prefers jam and apple pie.
Will these two at-odds quadrupeds find common ground?
Really cute book about Lloyd Llama who likes things with the double letter "l" in them like lollipops and cellos. We also get introduced to Al Alpaca who likes things with the letter "a" in them. Lloyd and Al didn't get along very well until they found things they like together like "allspice cakes"! This would be a great book for for students learning how to read.
Grades 2-5. Lloyd llama and Al alpaca like different things. Words with double ll and starting with the letter a. Fun word play-- could be used for word study. Students could sort words or create their own books using predetermined rules. Fun!
