Cindy was hoping that the only drama this Halloween season would be trying to figure out costumes for she and Jeremiah to wear to Geanie and Joseph’s costume party. As it turns out, though, there are a lot more tricks in store than treats. When bodies begin turning up with strange, ritual markings on them it puts everyone in town on edge. Suddenly there’s a lot more to worry about than the youth group’s haunted house event. More than ever Cindy, Jeremiah, and Mark must rely on each other to survive. Lives will be lost and families destroyed before they can put an end to a dark coven’s reign of terror.

Wow! Definitely the scariest and darkest so far of the Psalm 23 books. Jeremiah has changed since his return from Israel and Cindy and Mark especially are having a hard time re-establishing the relationships they want with him. What will bring Jeremiah to his senses? In the meantime, Jeremiah, Mark, and Cindy are in for the ride of their lives as they battle a deadly coven that is systematically killing young girls, and the victims are getting closer and closer to our heroes.
A wonderful continuation of my personal favorite series!!
Awesome awesome awesome! Debbie Viguie did a fantastic job integrating Halloween, church, synagogue, murder, witches, a costume party, and a youth group haunted house. Oh and romance with an alpha. Yup. You heard me. ROMANCE. Just a bit.
Another fast-paced mystery similar to the others in the series. The spooky house reminded me a little of the earlier spooky house with the Hebrew writing in it, I think in "Restoreth My Soul."
This one involved the occult and ritual sacrifice.
I was glad to see some of the teens back, from earlier in the series.
Wildeman's Haunted House sounded over-the-top, but I have heard of churches who have done similar Halloween themes.
His statement on youth ministry sounded familiar to me, similar to what a youth pastor told us volunteers in our former church. "At least you have someone that you know cares for you. A great many people would give a lot for that ... They have parents who don't care or cant be bothered to show it. Some of them don't even know where one or both of their parents are. They'd kill to have someone tell them they were special and loved. Heck, sometimes it feels like that's all I do week in and week out is tell them that they're special to God and that He loves them. I just keep hoping that they'll believe it, feel it, accept it, you know. And they want to, desperately, but some of them have been so burned. And these are the kids that are making it to church somehow, think of all those who aren't."
My heart went out to them. It seemed to me that kids in that group I knew were often so insecure in feeling loved that they couldn't hear the other immensely important messages of the Bible, and that it was dangerous what all was being left out in order to emphasize that one message.
Here's a more hopeful quote from the book: "Her discomfort around Traci indicates that deep down she knew that what he was doing was wrong, and she didn't want people in her life who would remind her of that fact. If she'd gone completely over to the dark side she wouldn't have cared at all what Traci thought or said." "So maybe there's hope for her?" "There could be."
That reminds me of people who are actively trying to quench the Holy Spirit within them (1 Thessalonians 5:19) or who are trying to sear their own consciences ( 1 Timothy 4:2) or are trying to harden their own hearts against God and what is right (Hebrews 3:7-9 and Proverbs 28:14, among others.) If they succeed, then they are in for great harm and great sorrow. This book was a little more hopeful about that trajectory than the Bible is, although God can reach anyone at any time.
I was curious what religion Trina held, and half-wondered if she'd be part of the coven. (I won't say.)
It bothered me that the ambulance, on taking a time-critical patient near death to the hospital, stopped on the way to drop off a cat at the vet. Couldn't they have done that afterwards?
Also, Cindy was dismissive of a Bible verse, without determining its context and whether it applied to her situation. She just didn't care, having already made up her mind what she wanted to do - to her own peril.
Cindy and Jeremiah are stuck. Neither of them want to go back to being just friends after their time in Israel, but they also don't want to be the one to initiate the talk as to where to go from here and whether or not the other one just got caught up in the heat of the moment. The fact that Jeremiah has been having a hard time settling back into the rabbi life doesn't help; he's more closed off than ever from everyone around him. They need to, as Mark said, get their mojo back. They also need to help plan the churches haunted house and pick a costume for Geanie and Joseph's Halloween party, which Jeremiah seems to shoot down every couple costume idea Cindy comes up with. All those plans come to a stop however when they discover a body in an abandoned house that was seemingly sacrificed. The markings on her body suggest some kind of ritual, and when more bodies killed in the same way with the same markings show up around town, and Mark's sister in law who was into Wicca and the power she could get from the dark arts goes missing, it becomes a race to beat the killers before Halloween, or the next sacrifice happens. This book was a lot darker than the previous books in the series. I know Debbie Viguie also writes fantasy novels but I've always steered clear from them as that genre has never been something I'm super comfortable with. I was a bit uncomfortable with her use of the bad witch coven and the introductory lesson on Wicca but she did stop just shy of actually saying magic caused any of it, there was usually an explanation. The plot line was fast and they did keep you interested all the way through, witches aside.
This volume of murder and intrigued follows Cindy and the Rabbi as they aid their friend, the homicide Detective Mark during the Halloween season.
Someone has decided to gain 'dark powers' by sacrificing humans. It appears someone wants immortality. This novel is a good warning for those that are vulnerable to stronger minds. As well as a darn good and scary Halloween tale.
Don't worry though. It gets solved and then we find Zorro to the rescue! And, I'm not kidding!
This is a continuing great murder mystery series. Action and dialog packed. I heartily suggest you give it a read, do so from volume one as you will grow with the characters.
It didn't take long to rip through this gripping mystery. Perhaps not as cozy as some might like, it's nevertheless well worth the read. I can appreciate the difficulties some would have with a church youth group putting on a haunted house (can't picture that happening at any church I know) and with the witchcraft elements but, make no mistake, neither Wicca nor witchcraft are being promoted here. In fact, I was pleased to see more Christian elements and spiritual growth being developed in some of the characters.
The whole series is well-written, with characters the reader cares about and exhilarating plotlines, I can't recommend Psalm 23 mysteries highly enough.
The perfect book for Halloween coming up! I didn't even think of that as I opened it up...and finished it in one day!
Jeremiah is having a hard time getting back to "normal" after his and Cindy's trip to Israel. Cindy feels him pulling away, but he refuses to talk about what happened while they were there.
Mark calls Jeremiah and Cindy in on a murder case when a young girl is found in a basement. Looking like an occult killing the trio are creeped out by the whole experience and Cindy ends up in the hospital from an allergic reaction to something in the basement.
In the meantime First Shepherd church is getting ready for their first haunted house scare-fest. The youth pastor, fondly called "Wildman", Dave is in his element. Beyond excited to be able to reach out to many of the youth in town, he's come up with a haunted house maze filled with Biblical scenes that are sure to scare the pants off of everyone going through.
Add in an FBI agent that has worked these occult cases before and you have a story filled with murder, mayhem and the supernatural guaranteed to cause you a few restless hours in the middle of the night!
Normally I avoid anything that delves into the realm of satanism or witchcraft. Thankfully I WILL FEAR NO EVIL doesn't delve too far, although it is pretty creepy. I'm still a bit confused as to Trina's "real" job as the FBI agent. Seems she had some abilities to communicate with the supernatural, but it never really came out in the book. I wonder if her character will be developed in future books or if that is all we get to glimpse of her. There was a touching scene between Mark and Jeremiah that I really liked. It is now Mark's turn to counsel Jeremiah. There was a bit in the book that I didn't think held true to Traci's character as a strong woman and so I was a bit disappointed in that. Eventually Jeremiah and Cindy are able to have a moment to talk about their feelings that were expressed while in Israel, and there are a few pretty steamy kisses between them. But there are still hurdles in that relationship I'm afraid. I had the luxury of being able to read this in one day, only because I ignored everything else and kept turning those pages! If you are looking for something to get your fright-bone shivering at this time of year then definitely pick up this suspense and enjoy!
I will fear no evil is book 10 in the psalm 23 mysteries and wow this series gets better and better.
The main plot surrounding this book, is a mysterious person sacrificing young women, until our favourite couple solves this mystery.
It was amazing how Debbie intertwined characters from other series into this book, Trina FBI Agent in this book is always in the Witch Hunt Novels.
I also really enjoyed how black cats became the centre of the plot, thoroughly happy Blackie received his happy ending. I would really like to read about Captain and Blackie's first meeting.
Think I need to say, FINALLY Cindy and Jeremiah are getting to the next stage of there relationship! Very excited for book 11, come on February 2015.
Thank you Debbie for another amazing book!!

Wow! From the beginning to the end this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once I started it, it was hard to put down. The crime that was happening was scary, but also the descriptions of the church's Halloween maze freaked me out. I had mixed feelings about the church doing the Halloween maze to begin with, but the explanation that youth pastor gave Cindy really helped me understand. I really liked the youth pastor in this book, he and Cindy had some great interactions. I am definitely looking forward to the next one, and hope that Jeremiah and Cindy move forward together.
This was a perfect Halloween read in a series I already enjoy. Witchcraft and evil meets with faith and bravery. This is a crossover novel, including characters from another series by Viguie. This book also contains a scene where people of faith work miracles while praying in a hospital. We get to see youth rising up to strengthen each other. Jeremiah learns he has more friends and support than he had thought. Mark tries Tracey's stalwart heart. And Wildman finally has a dream come true.
What can I say? I love Cindy and Jeremiah. The minute I finish one book in this series I want another. Ii let out a deep breath of relief when she only uses part of a verse in the title because I know it means the series will go on longer. If you haven't read these books I suggest you start immediately.
Wonderful, fast paced and just totally awesome!!!!! This story is so well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Can't wait for the next book.
