This helped my journey. God definitely spoke and imparted new things to me. Much of the commentary was supportive to growing in spirit and truth. Words focal points and kingdom dynamics were mostly insightful. As I continue in the understanding of our one true God, the bible commentary is charismatic as advertised- but I believe it’s a lens of trinitarian baptist. So while it has been helpful, I’ve now needed a new bible with commentary. You’ll notice the difference with discernment in the apostolic study bible. https://pentecostalpublishing.com/col...
I was excited when I found the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible (NIV) offered for review by Thomas Nelson as an e-book. I have used the hard copy of this Bible (NKJV version) since 2005—and love it!
What sets this study Bible apart from others is its friendliness to Charismatic-Pentecostal belief. First released in 1991, the editor’s introduction tells us that it is the product of more than twenty denominations banding together to produce a study Bible that integrates the Pentecostal-Charismatic viewpoint (Jack W. Hayford is the editor).
Here are some of its study features:
Book introductions and study notes Each Bible book contains an introduction that deals with the usual: author, date, content (summarized), and personal application. As well, each book’s introduction has a section that talks about how Christ is revealed in the book and a “Holy Spirit At Work” section. These narrative paragraphs are followed by a book outline.
Study notes and cross-references are designated with letters and numbers within the text. All are linked in the e-book version.
The list of book commentary writers is found in the Table of Contents and includes theologians like Wayne Grudem (Romans) and Jack Hayford (Ruth and Ephesians).
Word definitions (Word Wealth) Easy-to-understand definitions for more than 550 terms make up the Word Wealth feature. In the e-book version a diamond symbol appears next to the defined word. Click on the diamond and word link and you are whisked away to the definition.
Articles on Bible themes (Kingdom Dynamics) Various authors explore forty-one themes—values and truths that have characterized the church—called Kingdom Dynamics. They are organized into nine clusters that represent a general category of spiritual truth. Each article is linked with two references at the bottom—one to the article preceding and one to the next in the series.
For example, cluster one, “Spiritual Foundation,” contains articles on “The Word of God,” “The Blood of the Covenant,” “The Kingdom of God,” “The Pathway of Praise,” and “Worship.”
In the e-book Bible the words “Kingdom Dynamics” appear in superscript within the text and links to the appropriate article.
Practical application (Truth-In-Action) Following each book (in the case of the Psalms a section of chapters, for the Synoptic Gospels after Luke) is a feature (Truth-In-Action) that addresses what the book teaches and how it might impact everyday life.
Charts Thirty-seven charts are sprinkled throughout the text. Some of my favorites are “Israel’s Annual Festivals,” “Israel’s Other Sacred Times,” “The Jewish Calendar,” “The Suffering Servant” (Bible references showing how Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Suffering Servant passages in Isaiah), and “The Harmony of the Gospels.”
In the e-book Bible, for some of these I need to change the orientation of the display on my e-reader from portrait to landscape so that the type displays large enough to be read.
In-Text maps There are forty-four of these. Not all are actual maps; some are paragraphs explaining the geographical movement of characters. Again, sometimes the display orientation needs to be changed for these to be legible.
Essays The text of the Bible is followed by a series of essays including several on how to interpret the prophesies of Christ’s second coming and Revelation, several on the work of the Holy Spirit, and more.
Concordance The book ends with a concordance, created by John Kohlenberger III and developed specifically for use with the NIV. It contains 2,474 word entries with links to over 10,000 Scripture references.
Using the e-book version of this study Bible takes some getting used to. It’s well-indexed and linked though, so despite this Bible’s many features, it’s easy to navigate around. I find my best friends for this are the Table of Contents and the “Back” button of my device. The article “How to Use This Bible” (listed in the TOC) explains the differences between the e-book and print editions. I found it helpful.
What I like about this Bible:
- Its emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit.
- The easy-to-understand, devotional style of the articles.
- The Word Wealth feature. As a word nerd I love these. They come complete with the Strong’s Concordance number so it’s easy to look up the Greek or Hebrew word in a Lexicon and do even more in-depth word studies if you like. In the e-book version I like how the linking takes me straight to the word definition article (no paging through the Bible to where the article first appears).
- In the e-book version, every reference is linked. Again, no paging around. But it is easy to forget where I am if I’ve followed several links. “Back” button to the rescue!
- In the e-book version the font size is adjustable. My paper Bible’s font size is tiny and still the book is hefty. With an e-Bible, I can adjust the font size to suit my eyes.
My paper New Spirit-Filled Life Bible (NKJV) is getting worn with daily use. I’ve found it an invaluable help in the 41/2 years I’ve written my daily devotional blog. I am thrilled to have this favorite study Bible in my lightweight Kindle. I am ever so grateful to Thomas Nelson for offering this e-book version of the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible (NIV) - Kindle version, in exchange for a review.
Used this Bible for years. Wore out the first copy and had to get a second - both in Hardcover. I would like to get a leather bound copy. I enjoyed the study notes and maps and other helpful extras.
First and foremost, this is a review on the book as put together by the editors, not on the NIV translation or the Bible itself.
The NIV New Spirit-Filled Life Bible may be loosely described as a study bible with devotional leanings. It contains short excerpts in devotional style (usually no more than a few sentences in length) scattered throughout that pertain to one of eight “clusters” on specific topics chosen by the editors (as a whole noted as “Kingdom Dynamics”). Most of these are written by different people; only a few authors have multiple and/or co-authored entries. Several essays of varying subject and length that tend to be more in the “study bible” vein are also included. There is a list of 550 terms (called “Word Wealth”) used in Scripture with provided definitions—these are “hit & miss” in their accuracy or clarity. The “Truth in Action” sections for each book provide “truths” found within sections of Scripture and the “action” on the part of the reader that is intended to follow. Also, as is typically included in most Bibles, are cross-references for verses.
I received an “e-book” copy of this book and cannot speak to the size, heft, and ease-of-use of a hardcopy. The layout of the e-book works well with its thorough linking and cross-referencing to other places within the text, all of which I tried functioned properly; however, any text of this size and “page hopping” does not have the same ease and flow of a hardcopy. As a systematically used text, it functions well; as a text to be simply read and browsed, as many do with the Bible, it is clunky and ill-fitting.
I chose to review this particular book because of the title and accompanied description on BookLookBloggers.com, which reads, “Find the Holy Spirit throughout the Bible. Jack Hayford, founding pastor of The Church on the Way, has led a team of anointed scholars to produce the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible. This outstanding resource offers a fresh look at the Scriptures and the work of the Holy Spirit. This Bible addresses important issues of Spirit-filled living in the context of solid biblical scholarship.” I assumed it was going to be a study bible that traced the Holy Spirit and the workings thereof through Scripture, both the Old and New Testaments. I was mistaken in my assumption. As a whole, its predominant agenda and trajectory is that of promoting a Pentecostal/Charismatic, dispensational, and premillennial eschatological perspective. It does not exclude other perspectives—they are sprinkled around—nor do the editors present information as if all other perspectives are “heretical” or any other descriptors thrown by many at those who disagree with themselves. In no way is there any tracing of the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture by way of notes, essays, or other means, which leads me to think the description I read to be a bit misleading. Perhaps I should have checked out the church noted therein to get an idea of where it might be going—I still haven’t, as I see no need to do so.
In as much as I do not share the same Pentecostal, dispensational, and premillennial views as those espoused therein, I would not recommend this book to others. I did not find it very helpful, it was a little too “light” for a “study bible,” and did not have enough substance, in my opinion, to be a “devotional bible.” For those parts that I believe would be beneficial to other readers, I would simply point them to other resources to use in tandem with studying whichever translation of Scripture they choose. However, I applaud those involved in this book’s editing in that they can appreciate others’ perspectives and believe we are all sincerely trying to follow the same triune God and that we can be unified in Him even in our differing interpretations and understandings of Scripture.

My addiction to books also includes Bibles. I keep wanting different ones wondering what secrets might be in this new one or what new ideas might be hiding inside this new version.
I was inerested in what 20 denominations and fellowships would come together to teach. There is so much packed into the NIV Bible that can help you understand some of the themes better.
Kingdom Dynamics are themes that run through the Bible. They are like mini study guides placed in the Bible verses to help lead you through the whole Bible learning certain themes. In the beginning of the Bible they give you a run down about the 9 themes that they have included in the Bible: spiritual foundations, prayer power, personal growth, spiritual empowerment, spiritual unity, spiritual leadership, spiritual stewardship, supernatural ministry, global outreach.
Word Wealth helps you understand key words of the Bible. They reference Strong's Concordance as a guide.
Truth-In -Action comes at the end of each book of the Bible. It helps show you ways to apply the truths of the Bible to be found in that book. They offer specific steps you can take to let God guide your life.
The commentary through the Bible seemed very complete and I found very engaging. The articles in the back of the Binle where definitely interesting. I didn't completely agree with all of the ideas included in them but I thought that they might apply well to people of other faiths leading them closer to Jesus.
I found the actual print of the Bible easy to read. Jesus's words are highlighted in red. The additional studies in the book are placed well. The study notes are well designed. The charts and maps are of a high quality.
The chapter introductions are wonderful. They tell you about the author of the book. They tell you about when they believe the book was written. They give you a short snapsis of the content of the book- They share how you can personaly apply the book to your life. Theyshare how Chirst is reveled in the book because all the books are designed to lead you to Christ. They share how the Holy Spirit is at work in the book. And an outline of what you will findin the book.
I enjoyed the extras included in the book. It is not my favorite Bible I own and I feel good about letting my kids use this Bible. The heart of the Bible is still all there and ready for anyone to dig in and grow closer to God. Enjoy.

Now in the bestselling New International Version, this Bible addressed important issues of Spirit filled living in the context of solid biblical scholarship.
Jack W. Hayford has done an excellent job in putting this Bible together. The print is a good size for reading, which means not too small for the average eye.
He has put some wonderful foot notes along with some word meanings, which help with your study of the Bible. Each chapter begins with a detailed outline, and along with the Kingdom dynamics and charts you are all set to study.
The Kingdom Dynamics , which are 41 themes throughout the Scriptures, that give us values as we give the gospels to the world
Word Wealth: More than 550 key terms well-defined and brought to life, relating the original languages to average everyday English.

The cover is very durable and attractive, and it’s a good size, even to carry to Bible Studies. This copy even offers free Bible study tools to download.
This is a great tool for any person who is a Bible Scholar or in the ministry. As soon as my pastor husband saw this Bible, he claimed it for his own!

If you are looking for a study Bible that will help you to grow in your faith while leading a spirit-filled life, then the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible is for you!
Now available in the NIV translation, the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible is an update to the original Spirit-Filled Life Bible that was released in 1991. That Bible was significant because it represented the first study Bible that was written from a Pentecostal-Charismatic perspective. This new, updated edition builds upon that original foundation and expands upon it by including new articles and expanded Kingdom Dynamics.
Dr. Jack Hayford – a well respected pastor and church leader with the ability to minister to believers across denominational lines – served as the Executive Editor of this Bible. The goal of this study Bible is to address “important issues of Spirit-filled living in the context of solid biblical scholarship”.
One of the things that I love about this Bible is the wealth of invaluable study tools you’ll find inside. You will find all of the standard features you would expect to find in a traditional study Bible, plus some key features that are unique to the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible.
The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible is a wonderful study Bible rich in resources that will help you to grow in your faith!

This New Spirit Filled Life Bible is the NIV, and Jack W> Hayford is the Executive Editor. This is a really neat study Bible, one of the first things I noticed is that it is color coded with special study tips highlighted. It is also a Red Letter edition, so that makes it special, because as you know, all of the words in read are said by our Lord.
Here are a few special things about this Study Bible:
Kingdom Dynamics – 41 themes throughout the Bible that give us values as we advance the gospel throughout the world •Word Wealth – More than 550 key terms defined and brought to life, pulling the language from the original Greek and Hebrew into everyday English •Truth-In-Action – Charts with practical application from every book of the Bible •Detailed book introduction •Verse-by-verse study notes
The edition I have is hardcover with a dust jacket, it is Teal and white in color which is very attractive. The inside pages are a nice white, and the font is an easy to read one. All in all, I find this to be a really nice study Bible that I highly recommend. If you enjoy different study tools, I encourage you to give this Bible a try!

The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible is a different bible than those that I usually utilize for bible study. It is a great addition to my collection. Each book begins with a summary that includes the author, date, content, personal application, Christ revealed and the Holy Spirit at work. There are boxes that contain word wealth which defines words as well as putting them into context. Other boxes contain Kingdom Dynamics which explains biblical themes. Also there are Truth-In -Action at the end of each book which helps you apply biblical truths.
The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible is written in simple English which is helpful for both new and mature believers. Give this bible a chance. I know you'll find it very helpful and insightful.
