عاشق همیشه تنهاست

Rate this book
Sohrab Sepehri (1928-80) is considered one of the 20th century's great Iranian poets. He was also an accomplished painter. Sepehri is especially famous as a poet because of his observations on the human condition and his love for nature. This volume includes many of Sepehri's best poems in the original Persian text with full English translations. It is a great introduction to his work for non-Persian speakers and a comprehensive collection for others. The Farsi title is Ashiq hamishah tanhast.

Perhaps one day I'll come across decent translations of the great contemporary poets of Iran, but today is not that day. Sepehri's poetry is, of course, gorgeous and poignant, but the English translations are severely lacking and clumsily done. My rating reflects the translation, only. 5 stars for Sepehri, always.
