Take a bow, Mimi! More than anything in the world, Mimi wanted to be on stage—to sing, to dance, to act! But to sing, dance, and act, you had to be talented and beautiful. “And I’m not,” Mimi thought sadly. But Mimi has determination and spunk and perseverance. Will that be enough? Can she do it? Can Mimi become a star?
Brava Mini is a great book to show children that empowerment can come from the community. Mini wants to dance but she has low confidence level. As she prepares for her big night, everything goes wrong; she seeks the support of her community. Her community builds her up and uplifts her spirits which helps her perform well on her big night. This is great book to read to children because it displays to children that their community is another support group and can uplift you to reach your goals.
Mimi the mouse thinks that talent is associated with beauty until her friends teach her what true talent is in this easy fiction book. With practice and support, Mimi develops in to a star. Full-page, soft illustrations are as tender as this story. A good one for kids learning about the importance of friendship and character.

Not everyone has natural talent, and, even those who do have still have to work at enhancing their talent. When it comes to dancing Mimi (and i), don't have natural talent, but she does have big dreams. And perseverance. And sometimes things go wrong (a disastrous Spanish dance for me), but we still survive and thrive. Really adorable illustrations in this appealing book, too.
I liked this book; however, I can only give it three stars. I'm not sure why, but I didn't love it. The illustrations are pretty. The story has a good message. But there was something wrong. I just can't put my finger on what I didn't like about the book.
Poor Mimi...she's not good at much of anything. When she works hard to become a dancer the very thing she dreads happens! This book was okay...just not one I would use for storytime.
