Tess Whitehurst (Central California) is a spiritual teacher who focuses on magical practices, mindfulness, and self-love. She has appeared on the Bravo TV show Flipping Out and her writing has been featured such places as Writer's Digest, Llewellyn's annuals, and Spirit and Destiny magazine. In addition to authoring many books and oracle decks, she is the founder and facilitator of Wisdom Circle, an online magical community and learning hub.
Tess Whitehurst has been a real inspiration to my life! All of her books have gotten me further and further into the realm of feng shui and I now use it in my everyday life.
This particular book, Holistic Energy Magic, was a breathe of fresh air! So many spell and feng shui books require tools but this one only requires the power of your mind and visualization.
My favorite is The Cauldron of Lilac Fire. It seriously holds more power than any spells I've done with actual tools. Getting further into the book, introduces spells that help you deal with casting away people from your life.
Unhealthy attachments you may have been holding onto. Keeping the power of three in mind, she walks you through the steps of resolving conflicts with neighbors or with people you just know you need to let go of but feel powerless to do so. This book helps you to take your power back!
As always, another riveting book by my favorite magical author. It's as if she's read my mind with this one!
A well-writen book, Ms. Whitehurst explains things fairly well and includes plenty of exercises and ideas. It does rely heavily on the idea that "all is one" in terms of divinity/energy/magic. The opening section is primarily explanation and exercises designed to help the reader see things in such a fashion as to allow "magic without tools." The final section is specific spells from Ms. Whitehurst's experience.
I found the book interesting and easy to read. I may re-read it again at some point.
Comes from a Wiccan perspective without introducing it. Reduces all deities to "All That Is" (my take on that is complicated; I guess you can say I think that's a simplistic way to look at the Divine). Relies on angels (which I object to as a non-Christian) and deities to do the magic for you rather than talking about directing the energy yourself. I do like the idea of a daily cleansing for magic work that's introduced early in the book, but I doubt if/when I start doing a daily cleansing that it will look like hers. Somewhat helpful "dictionary" of associations with colors, crystals, herbs, scents...
I really enjoyed reading a book a that focused on using the biggest force of magic there is; yourself. Many of the concepts in the book are very easy to quickly use and edit for your own belief and desires. Some where not my favorite as I felt they worked with the energies of another which goes against my ethics. However, I can morph those techniques if I wanted to.
I gave this book four stars because I felt some things were repeated a bit. I did enjoy the outlines and walk throughs for the different meditations, rituals, or energy workings.
Everyone always seems to be looking for a book that goes beyond an intro to the craft and gets into what it actually is. Tess Whitehurst does a fantastic job of putting magic into everyday practice. Hey beginners... here is your next step! Admittedly, Tess Whitehurst brings her own beliefs into the fold but offers alternatives for those who need it. I had so many takeaways from this book because I was open to put her suggestions into practice.
When I picked up this book off of my shelf I didn’t realize how much I truly needed it, how much my heart and soul really longed for the words in this book. The Universe knew it I suppose and I’m so glad It did. Tess is a wonderful writer. I know her mainly thanks to her podcast, Magic Monday, and though I have purchased a few of her books this is the first one from my Witchy TBR stack that I’ve read. It felt more like she was talking to me through the pages than it felt like I was merely reading her words. Everything was coming through loud and clear and I couldn’t be more thankful. I needed this book and if you are looking for something that might fill a certain void in your magical thinking I would highly suggest this one.
did not finish, too voodoo and witchy. suggests praying to saints, archangels, Egyptian/ Hindu gooddesses, etc and casting spells. I thought it would be more of a self help book
Easy to digest information in manifestation and ritual. Would recommend! I’ve dog eared passages I know will be useful in the future. Quite an empowering little book.
