Devil's Despair #2

Hayden's Verse

Rate this book
Hayden

I’m known to my friends as a player; a user of women.
I don’t believe in relationships. They’re messy and confusing. They don’t last.

Lacey Wells walked into my life and ruined it. Although not in the traditional sense, we made the decision to be “exclusive.” We used each other to satisfy our bodies want of lust and attraction. And we had this… for a time.

When uncontrollable events altered the arrangement and life as we knew it had fallen to circumstance, my reactions weren’t only punishing, they were painful and cruel. I pushed her away, causing her heartache but in return she refused to break. Instead, she challenged my will at every turn. She was determined to make me see the person I always was, but had never been. I was desperate and searching for the answer that I was so anxious to have…
Was I capable of falling in love?

Our path together was tumultuous and unforgiving. At times it was full of anger and resentment. But it was also fun and sometimes downright ridiculous.

There’s no label to our story; tales of cliché pale in comparison. It just happened. It was us. It was crazy and it was exactly what we made it.

Note: There are no love triangles or cheating that takes place within this story. It’s a HEA, however the road to getting there is full of angst, sadness, and regret. If you aren’t a reader who enjoys the element of angst or heartache, this book isn’t one you’d find enjoyment in reading. This is not a dark romance. Due to explicit language and sexual content, this book should not be purchased by readers under the age of 18. This book has been written as a standalone novel as have all other books in the Devil’s Despair series.

well written, engaging and fast paced. another great addition to this already fantastic series. this book is both funny and heartfelt, with great dramatic moments and some twists i never saw coming.

hayden is a great character, he is so much more than your usual man-whore. there's so many fascinating layers to this guy and seeing them come to light here was beautiful and sometimes painful to read. i also loved the heroine, lacey. she is awesome. strong, confident, utterly hilarious, sweet and so normal. not over the top. she is very much the voice of reason, she's the calm in the chaos that can be hayden.. the whole group of friends actually. that's another thing i like about this series, everyone plays a huge part of the story. it's focus is the one core couple each book but they're a family at heart so everyone is involved and you get to catch up. it's truly a lovely dynamic.

a.c bextor can weave a complex story with all the right amounts of angst, sweet, hot and most importantly a friggen great plot. i didn't think she could out do ace from the first book but she certainly did with hayden!

also that ending.. HELL YES! i seriously need travis' book like right now, okay?! i am so excited for all that to go down!

I am fortunate to be a Beta reader for Hayden's Verse. This story is not an easy one, yes it has some hearts and flowers but, it also has dark and angst before the light appears. Secrets revealed that tear at your heart so have some kleenex ready. Hayden and Lacey are wonderful together, their bond jumps out at you. You also get to see the rest of the gang and get pulled into the fold again! Ace, Reagan, Sarah, Travis and Bean will pull you in all directions, leaving you wanting more. Mark this on your TBR!

So I woke up this morning sad, almost to the point of pouting, wanna know why? Because I, like any other girl who sets eyes on Hayden Flynn, fell in love with him, with Lacey and now that I devoured their story, I want more. I keep trying to swipe more pages with my Kindle but it’s not working. I keep looking at the cover and I get depressed. You know when you fall in love with a story and you just know even before you reach the end, that it will stay with you long after you finish it? Well what do you know; you will get this with Hayden’s Verse. I messaged AC right after I read the hilarious last line and told her that I needed more, she had the audacity to ask me why? I said, “well I fell in love with that little shit”, and I have no doubt every single one of you will too.

Hayden Merit Flynn… Hayden Merit Flynn has a nice ring to it don’t you think? Yeah, you should hear his voice too, and the looks go right along with a name like that too. Only one problem, he’s a self-proclaimed playboy who isn’t looking for a cure…. That is until little miss sassy pants Lacey walks right into his life.

At the end of Ace, I wanted Hayden’s book bad. I knew it would have to be someone special to try and tame him, knew she had to be one of a kind. It couldn’t just be a random run of the mill girl, no this girl had to have spunk. Enter Lacey, Trav’s little sister aka Little miss spitfire. I loved her personality, loved the way she got under Hayden’s skin, loved the way she got into his heart and soul and made him feel, made him question every freaking thing that he was brought up to believe in.

Hayden didn’t expect Lace, didn’t expect the way he would feel, he was absolutely out of his mind when it came to Lacey.

I cant give away too much of their story without spoilers but every word, every line and every heart ache they encountered together, whether it was from each other or outside heartbreak, everything was worth it. I caught myself crying with the characters, screaming at Hayden just like Lace did but also, I caught myself fighting along with Lace and Hayden and for their relationship. It was beautiful and these two souls couldn’t have had a better ending with the hands they were dealt with. They deserved their slice of happiness.

Maybe its just me, but no matter what this was boring as hell. Hayden (The Worst Lie I’ve ever told was to myself. In this relationship, I’ve remained detached in a sense. I’ve tried to keep the distance from women I’m used to. I’ve been telling myself this arrangement has been fair and honest. It’s not either of those things. Self-told lies mask an emotion, an event, and if you let it, a future. I’m tired of lying. I fucked Lacey tonight like I would’ve fucked any other woman because I was restless, unsure, and afraid. If I’m being honest with myself, I was worse to her than any other woman. I fucked her and treated her like a nameless face, yes. But I also cared nothing about what she was feeling.) Just cry me a river! Seriously when did men become this self reflecting? Did all their balls fall off and they turn into pussies? I mean really since when did men think like this? On and on throughout the entire book I read this kind of garbage. I couldn't get into it and felt the storyline dragged on! Ahh just shoot me!
 photo book sucks 6.gif
Lacey (Tears of rejection coated my face, making it impossible for me to face
him again. Although as badly as I wanted to run to him and find out what was happening, I thought better of it and decided to give him the space he obviously needed. Hayden requires a lot of space.) Read at your own risk, maybe you'll like it better then I did.

If you read Ace’s Redemption (Devil’s Despair, #1) – and really you should – then you know that Hayden is, well, he’s a man slut. He loves women and women love him. He doesn’t do dating, he doesn’t do committed and he doesn’t do exclusive. He’s had a hard life dealing with his mother walking out and his father turning to the bottle. In his dad’s booze haze he encouraged and raised Hayden to be a player. This was all done in the twisted notion to protect him from losing love and from love breaking him apart. What Hayden never expects to find is love in the form of his best friend’s little sister, Lacey. What starts as an exclusive hookup becomes so much more as Hayden finds comfort in having that one person he can count on, be comfortable with no matter what, that he can trust and be himself with – a man that not even his closest friends know completely.

When Lacey meets Hayden, she has already been warned off him from her brother’s group of friends. But she sees something other than just some man slut that uses women. She may not make it easy for him to get into her pants but the fact that he doesn’t let up proves he isn’t exactly what everyone says and eventually these two ignite the pages.

AC was on point with the chemistry between Hayden and Lacey. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loved them each and together. They were sweet and tender but also sexy as hell. Not to say it isn’t a hard journey for them. Hayden isn’t used to having someone like Lacey in his life; and man does he fight it. It isn’t even about her but the way he views his self-worth. Lacey winds up being exactly what Hayden needs in his life. There is a way about her that heals him without him realizing that’s what he needs or that it is happening to him.

It’s a really rough road for this couple but one of the things I absolutely loved about Lacey was she just won’t give up on Hayden. She sees him even though he may not see himself yet. That’s love. And when secrets surface and lies unfold, Lacey is there to remind Hayden to trust his worth, trust she knows him, trust she loves him and trust that what he thought he knew, may not be his truth any more, but it doesn’t change the man he is and the one she loves.

You don’t want to miss out on Hayden and Lacey’s story. It was exactly what it should be. There was definitely a few moments I was holding my breath or getting choked up and most definitely was snort laughing.

Review by Jen Hagen

A.C. Bextor has quickly risen to being one of my favorite authors. Her books always carry a ton of angst, and I am forced to wear a long-sleeve shirt to wipe away my tears. This particular book did not invoke the emotions that her previous works have, but that doesn’t mean that it is not just as good. Actually, it was nice to have a respite from the wet sleeve. Even though it didn’t bring out the tears, I would have to say the main character brought out something from me that I have never felt towards one of her characters before…anger. I became quite hateful towards Hayden and that is a good thing as it takes a very good writer to make me feel something while I’m reading.

We have been introduced to everybody in the Devil’s Despair band in the previous book, Ace’s Redemption, which began the series. Hayden is the lead singer and has always been known as the man-whore. He knows it and everybody else knows it. His best friends turn a blind eye towards his behavior.

I f*cked up and I own that… and even though I’ve apologized for this and have done everything I can to win back the respect of my friends, I haven’t. I don’t think I ever will. I’ll always be the man-whore, the player, and the one person in our group who can’t be trusted.

Hayden didn’t fall far from the man-whore tree as Hayden is following in his father’s footsteps. Hayden’s mother left his father when Hayden was an infant. His father has never gotten over losing the love of his life and has schooled Hayden on the fine art of using women…

“Play them all, Hayden. Don’t ever settle for just one. Women f*ck everything up. You can give them your body, but never trust them with your heart. Never share a piece of your soul.”

With that advice and the witnessing of his father’s open door policy, Hayden has done nothing to change his perception of what a woman is really for…somebody to love him unconditionally. He was never given that love by his mother and he has had to take care of his alcoholic father for a long time. He’s never taken the opportunity to believe slightly that he is capable of having an exclusive relationship. That is until Lacey…

Lacey is the 21-year-younger sister of Hayden’s best friend, Travis. Lacey and Travis have just recently become acquainted with each other and Travis is very overbearing and protective of Lacey. He has seen Hayden with other women and he does not want that happening with Lacey. He can sense the lust-filled tension permeating the air when Hayden and Lacey are near each other and he doesn’t like it. Words are spoken and the hurtful truth is hard to hear when it’s coming from your best friend.

“You’re not a monster; you’re worse. Women don’t see you coming; the wolf in sheep’s clothing. You make them want you, you let them have you. Then you take their hopes and heart with you on your way out. This doesn’t make you a monster, but it does make you a thief and a liar.”

Wow Travis…tell us how you really feel. Those are some venomous words being spewed at Hayden, even if they are true.

While Hayden has been with hundreds (yes, hundreds…his own admission), Lacey has been with 2. Hayden and Lacey embark on an exclusive sexual relationship with no feelings from the heart coming into play. At least that’s what it starts out as. You know they are eventually going to go farther with their relationship.

It’s on the tip of my tongue to say three words I’ve never said to another woman, ever. Lacey has to know I care about her.

Everything up to this point is good, but now is when the angst meter rises high and where I begin to really, really dislike Hayden. He can be cruel with his words when Lacey needs him the most.

“I didn’t want this,” I admit; she deserves the truth.
“I know.”
“I don’t want this.”
“I know, Hayden.”

Besides being faced with something that Hayden had not seen coming, he is also facing a betrayal of epic proportions. How do you continue on when your life feels like it is based on a lie? Hayden already thinks very little of himself and this just throws what little self esteem he had out the window.

“I am broken, Lacey! You don’t see it. I don’t know why you don’t! Everyone I know does…I’m never going to be what you think it is I can be!”

After Hayden is finally starting to get his life under control, another curveball is thrown at Hayden and tests all of the gang’s faith.

Out of all of us, I’ve always been the one I feel was closest to believing to prayer and understanding there’s more out there than we have proof of there to be.

Although I have enjoyed the stories of Ace and Hayden, I am so looking forward to Travis’s story. Right from the beginning of the series I knew that Travis has a huge story to tell and it’s going to hurt. Of course it will hurt…this is AC Bextor we’re talking about. I CAN’T WAIT…bring on the long-sleeved cotton shirt. I’ll be ready.

Watch out! The author who writes about bad boy bikers and foul mouthed tattoo men came out with an amazing HEA story!! This story was a journey full of emotional growth and maturity. Ace's Redemption was the first book I read by AC and I am very partial to Ace. However, Hayden has given Ace a run for the book boyfriend category! If you read Ace's Redemption, this is where we are introduced to Hayden, Travis, Toby, Sarah & Grandma Bean.

Hayden is the playboy lead singer in the band Devil's Despair and always has atleast one different woman on his arm. However not everything is how it seems. There is always more to this group of misfits then meets the eye.

Travis finds out he has a long lost sister named Lacey. Travis is very protective of her as he is with all the females in his life, Raegan & Sarah. Lacey is already forewarned of Hayden and his playboy ways, and Hayden is told that Lacey is hands off. Lacey and Hayden find an equal amount of physical attraction to one another though.

Lacey gives Hayden a run for his money. She has quick wit and can give as good as she can take. Hayden is enthralled with her and her tenacity. As the two spend more time together, the more Lacey realizes there is more to Hayden then even what his friends see. She is determined to get to it.

Lacey stands up for Hayden against her brother Travis. Something Hayden is not used too. He is used to his friends thinking he is nothing more then a playboy and not worthy of Lacey. But he just can't give her up either. The story is absolutely amazing in the backstory to Hayden. There is so much more to this character and is heartbreaking to know what he is feeling.

Lacey and Hayden have to work for their relationship. They don't have it easy by any means. Watching the struggles and ups & downs that they go through is inspiring. Lacey is definitely full of grit and determination.

During the story we get to catch up on everyone's favorite Grandma Bean. Sarah and her nasty little mouth and attitude. Watching the battles play out between her and Ace or her and Travis is hilarious. Sarah is becoming a woman and is more then likely to put Travis into an early grave. Lastly we have Hayden and his growth. You will fall in love with him just like Lacey. Knowing the real Hayden is so much better then the prince charming of one night stands.

I'll start by saying it's been an honor to have been given an ARC by the Author AC. Bextor for my honest review.

AC. has done it again if you have read Ace's Redemption then you were introduced to Hayden...And what a man whore he is. But as is AC. Bextor's style the journey to loving Hayden is paved with joy, tears and a little madness as well.

Hayden meets Lacey and she is "The Girl" her never expected.
Lacey had been warned off of Hayden due to his playboy ways, and Hayden was told that Lacey was hands off...But we all know how that works.

This story wraps you up and carries you through all the ups and downs these two and their friends experience. Lacey is just the right mix of fiesty, loyal and loving and then Hayden is all beautiful male you can't get enough of, he is deeper than his looks and you can't help but fall in love with him.

If you fell in love with Ace then you will be blown away with Hayden!!
Loved this story and can't wait for the next one!

Eeeeek! This book.... holy wow!!!
AC always has a way of writing books that touch my heart in some way. This one did just that. At first I was just a little excited about Hayden's story. Then when I jumped in I could not out it down!! darn work got in the way but I was excited to get lost in Hayden and Lacey's story every night. Lacey was the perfect H for Hayden. They both have a past that was full of drama!! Number one thing I always love!! AC killed it with the SEX scenes! Talk about crazy hotness!!! wowza! ;) I could go on and on. Just know that this book was beautifully written and has all the drama but lovingness (is that a word? ha) that you could ask for in a book!!!
I also got a little glimpse into TRAVIS MY MAN. Hehehehe I'm so stoked for his book!!!
Love your face AC!!!

4 Stars just Good for me

ok, I just finished reading this much anticipated book in the series and as much as I liked it a lot, I didn't love it and I think it's my own personal reading issues that hindered me loving the book. I have to say that I honestly LOVED Lacey and if I am being honest and I can't believe I am saying this, lol, but I think I loved her more than Hayden. I loved the story of the two of them until the "incident" that had Hayden running scared. Sorry, I just didn't get it???? The whole incident was "weird" anyways to me and the way he reacted to it sent the next part of their story a bit downhill for me. I don't get any of it???? Also, I KNOW from the author's admission on the synopsis of the book that there is no cheating and through Hayden's inner thoughts, he didn't cheat BUT I didn't get how the time spent apart was never discussed amongst them. If I didn't know ahead of time and if I didn't read his inner thoughts I wouldn't have known what the heck to think. Like when he shows up with Jenna right after the incident where they all are at the bar including Lacey, again, I just didn't get it. Yes, he says he dropped her off BUT why on earth would he not want to confess or clarify to Lacey at some point that she was the last one for him.. Sorry, but that whole part of the second half, I not only didn't get but truly didn't like it and it turned me off to their story. I felt disconnected with the latter half of their story for sure and again, it's my own personal thoughts/issues, it was as though there was a lot that went unsaid..... I am so sorry, I just am so conflicted over my feelings for this story!!!! I just needed more of a connection with them especially latter part, I needed more to be talked about I guess, I don't know, lol, see I am just conflicted is all, I guess.

I am not going to lie, I cried at a few parts throughout, heartbreak, hell yes, sweet confessions and truths being discovered, OMG, I felt so freaking emotional a lot of the time, lololol!!!

Yes, their story was difficult BUT the ending, oh yes, just utterly beautiful and sweet and just oh definitely made my aching heart flutter and truly make me smile in a big way! I guess maybe between the incident and the last part of their story, which was GREAT, I wanted more between them and not what I got by them just existing together for a particular reason and it went on far too long in my opinion without setting a lot straight between them.

Maybe my emotions are too raw right now but I still love AC Bextor and will continue to read anything and everything she puts out. This wasn't my favorite story of hers but she is still a great author, whom I still love:) She is so talented and I really can't wait to read Travis's story...that boy is a complete enigma to me. Should be very good and looking forward to it!!!!!!!

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

This is the second book in A.C. Bextor’s Devils Despair series. Characters and their lives are revisited from the first book as well as new characters are introduced. Lacey and Hayden’s story is not easy! They both have demons in their past to overcome and healing that needs to take place before they can move forward. Sometimes the obstacles that from the past will make a future hard to find!

Life has not been easy of Lacey. Her mother is abusive, a whore and a drug addict. Disgusted by the lifestyle she is forced to endure with her mother. Lacey finally leaves when she catches her mother with her boyfriend. The only place that she can go is to the brother that her mother had only recently told her about. Unsure if he would accept her and believe that she is his sister, Lacey goes to him for help. She not only finds that his life has been totally different from hers but he is willing to help her. When she meets his friends, sexual tension flows between her and his friend Hayden. Everyone warns her to keep him at arm’s length but there is just something about that bad boy that draws her in.

Hayden is known as a player! His friends and family believe that he will never be anything but a player where women are concerned. But Hayden knows that sometimes life changes when you least expect it. When he meets his best friends little sister he cannot get her out of his head. She is not a one night stand kind of woman. Not a woman that he can roll off of, walk out the door and forget. Has the man slut met his Waterloo? Read this amazing story and find out!

Hero – Hayden: 4.5 stars
Heroine – Lacey: 4.5 stars
Steam: 4.5 stars
Plot: 4.5 stars
Cliffhanger: No

Would I recommend this book: Yes! If you enjoy bad boys that hook up with really bad good girls then you will want to read this book!

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! Each new book by Ms. Bextor reinforces her place as an outstanding author. Her characters are real and her storylines are original with enough heat to scorch the pages.

OMG I love AC Bextor and her beautiful mind. She makes it so hard for me to choose which one of her books is my favorite. From page one I was hooked, there was no putting it down. I had my husband yelling and the kids fussing but I blocked them all out and devoured this book!!

I loved Ace's Redemption. It's in that book you meet his friend the player Hayden Flynn. He loves women and doesn't plan on settling down anytime soon.......that is until his friend Travis's little sister Lacey comes to town.

By the time Lacey meets Hayden she has been warned about his playboy ways by her brother and his friends but the more time they spend together the more she sees in him.

My heart hurt for Hayden quite a few times in this book. I loved that Lacey see's him diffrently and even stands up to Travis when it comes to him. He is so used to his friends thinking bad about him that when Lacey actually does stand up for him he isn't sure how to act and she does it more than once. When he learns some information from his father......total heartbreak!! Oh my goodness my heart just hurt for him. It is then he really starts pushing everyone away, especially Lacey but she is determined not to give up on him but will Hayden wake up and see that before its to late?

I absolutely LOVED Hayden and Lacey together!!! The chemistry between the two was off the charts!! HOLY HOTNESS these two were SMOKING!!! That ending was absolutely perfect!!! I loved it!!! I didn't want it to end, I wanted more!!!!

I loved getting more on the whole gang.....Ace, Raegan, Travis, Sarah and Bean....OMG, I love Bean. She reminds me so much of my own grandmother and makes me miss her so much!!! I loved the relationship between her and Hayden!! AC you had me scared there for a minute but shewwww, thank goodness!!

AC you've done it again my friend!! You are absolutely amazing!!! I know I say it in every review but I really truly mean it....I love your face!!! (now I wonna go back and read The Lights of Peril series, lol) I am so excited Travis's book is next!!! I can't freaking wait to get my hands on it!!!! Will him and Sarah finally hook up because that tension between the two of them is killing me? If so, what will Ace have to say about that? I need to know NOW!!!!

A C Bextor is a new author to me and so I didn’t quite know what to expect. That’s the thing about discovering a new author, the anticipation of a new style of writing, new stories and a different perspective.

This is actually the second book in the series. I don’t think not reading the first book made reading the second book any less enjoyable although I’ll admit to maybe not knowing as much about the other band mates as I would have done! But you know that when you get rock stars, you’re going to get a variety of different personalities.

I liked how Travis was very protective of Lacey, and told her and Hayden to stay away from each other just like a big brother should! But I also liked how Lacey had a mind of her own and decided to go against Travis and stick up for Hayden, which he wasn’t used to. When you have a bad start in life, it’s hard to believe that someone is willing to actually be on your side. I felt that because of their similar backgrounds, they understood each other although Hayden did have to re-learn his view of women. I wonder if he felt differently about Lacey because she was a mate’s sister and I can’t help wondering that if she was just a girl in a bar, whether he would have pursued her or treated her any differently to his other women.

My problem didn’t lay with the story, it lay at the writing style. I felt it was just too jumpy for me to really get into the scenes and to “get” the story. I found myself back-tracking pages to try and work out who was saying what all the time which made it actually quite difficult for the story to run smoothly for me.

Ms Baxtor had some great traits in her characters. I laugh at the manwhores, where most female readers are eye-rolling! I like to imagine myself in similar situations and sometimes, a part of a story might mirror a bit of my past and I can sit and read with a smirk on my face. And where you get rock-stars, you get groupies which means there’s always going to be a big manwhore!

I feel bad giving this book only 3* but the whole layout of the book and the spurty style put me off.

I was gifted a copy of Ace’s Redemption to read from a friend. I liked Ace’s story and the writing style of A.C. so I was excited to be given this copy of Hayden’s Verse to review.

Oh my goodness where do I begin. This was one of those well written books that had me wanting to read it and leave everything else for later.

Every player has some reason for being the person that they appear to be on the outside, Hayden is no different. The worst part is that he really doesn’t understand yet himself what those reasons completely are. He is certain that this behavior is learned from watching his father all these years. Hayden knows that Lacey is forbidden and off limits but there is just something that he can’t leave alone. When Lacey takes what Hayden has to offer and agrees to be exclusive she gets more than she bargained for.

Lacey herself is no stranger to heartache and despair. Growing up with a mom who was everything except a nurturer Lacey had no choice but to be strong and level headed. When she decided to finally leave life behind and seek out her brother, she was pleasantly surprise. Sure his friends were skeptical at first but as they got to know Lacey for who she is they enveloped her into their circle. Against all warnings Lacey willing gets involved with Hayden because she can see him on the inside for more than he shows on the outside.

Put together a scared Hayden and a stubborn Lacey and the “non-relationship” is one hell of a roller coaster ride. Hateful words are shared, feeling are hurt, friendships are tested, but all the time Lacey stands by trying to let Hayden know he is worth it. Can they find a way to make things work or will they let the past be their future?

It is not clearly said at the end, but I really hope this is not the last of the gang from Devil’s Despair.

Hayden was raised by his alcoholic father who he watched use women for sex his whole life. He's never been in love nor did he ever want to be. All he needed is his life was his father and his friends.
Lacey was raised by her druggie whore of a mother. Lacey came in one night to find her mother and her boyfriend going at in on the kitchen floor. Lacey had enough, she packed her bags and went out in search of a brother Travis she didn't even know she had until recently.
Travis and Hayden have been friends their whole lives. Travis invites his friends over to met his sister and there is a immediate attraction between Lacey and Hayden. Between the sexual tension and the playfulness these two have it is hysterical. He has a dirty mouth and she pops it right back to him. Hayden being the manwhore he is doesn't do relationships, he proposes a "exclusive" relationship between the two, meaning exclusive sex. Lacey goes along with him. They start to develope feelings for each other and when there is a accident Hayden loses it. Between a life changing incident and a secret coming out can these two make it?
AC Bextor did it again!! One of my favorite things about her books are the characters. They are people you want to know, people you can see yourself sitting down and having a drink with. People that you can see some of your friends in. Read this series , you will not be disappointed.

Hayden’s Verse is an angst-ridden twisted tale of love. Lacey’s past is filled with heartbreak while Hayden has lived the life of an emotional playboy who use women and leave them crying in the dirt. He doesn’t do romance while Lacey’s not looking for love. These two characters are so dead set on avoiding relationships that they are instantly drawn into one. Their story is far from an easy romance and honestly I think that I like that about this book. Romance is meant to be messy and heartbreaking. Things come at you at the speed of light without any warning and you have to pick up the shattered pieces and deal the best you can. Lacey and Hayden have to fight for their HEA and damn I loved it! The teaser for the next book left me with my jaw open….

amazing. this series is awesome. i was laughing and even shed a few tears, this author is fantastic at giving a complex storyline with that added touch of angst that we crave. the sexy times are hot and the romance is swoon worthy. i loved that the friendship and family dynamic plays such a huge factor in this series too.

the pace, the writing and feel of the story flows beautifully. there's growth with characters and nobody is one dimentional.

and can i just add, i am soooo fucking excited for travis' book, i hope the wait isn't killer! i was hoping for him and i just cannot wait for what this author is going to give us with them! off the charts chemistry, i already see it!

one of my fave reads so far this year, highly rec this book and this author.

Hayden does not believe in hearts and flowers and forever. Hayden was taught from an early age that women were good for one thing only and their use was never for more than one night. Well that idea changes when Hayden meets Lacey. Lacey is strong and independent despite the struggles that she grew up with. When these two meet their chemistry is instantaneous and they agree to be in an exclusive sexual relationship. Sounds easy to do and it is until feelings get involved. This relationship is everything neither of them knew they needed. I loved this story and the struggles these two went through to be together. I recommend this book to anyone looking for humor, sexual chemistry and ultimately sweet romance.

I always try to put these off till I can't. Hayden is a manwhore, he wants no attachments. He loves them and leaves them. His friends call it like they see it even if they don't like it.

When he meets Lacey (Travis's new found sister), he knows there is something about her, even if he doesn't want to own up to it. She tests him like no other has but she is Travis's sister. She is off limits.

Well...that doesn't always mean anything. Lacey can't help but he drawn to Hayden and she knows his reputation. She just has to keep her heart out of it. Life is not always that simple and when Hayden freaks it puts everything that was into a mess.

Holy Hell! I have to admit to my serious crush on Hayden from Ace's story, and A.C. did NOT disappoint with this new book. She gives the reader an unrepentant man slut, but oh so much more.

Well written, with a fast pace, the story has everything. A ton of passion, scenes so steamy that the page may melt! But also an intense array of feelings-anger, fear, love, and did I mention ANGER?? Oh yeah, that is here in abundance. But in the end it is healing and allowing your heart to feel. Just beautiful.

I read this book in one sitting, A.C. has a devoted fan, and her name is Evette.

I loved this book! Hayden really tried my patience several times throughout the book. I'd be huffing at something he did and put my Kindle down. My husband looked at me with a "What?" look on his face. My reply: Hayden's being impossible (this is the clean version - it's not the word I used). A.C. really pulls you into her books and makes you feel like your part of the story-line. The characters are well-defined and deep. The plot is excellent in every book I've read by her. I didn't think I could get any angrier than I did at Ace in Lights of Peril; however, Hayden came very close! Of course, Ace did redeem himself in "Ace's Redemption". I definitely recommend any book A.C. writes!

I won an ARC of this from the author.
I loved this book. It was an intriguing read right from the start. I laughed a lot throughout the story until the end. I had nothing but smiles and tears of joy.
Throughout most of the story I wanted to thump Hayden on the back of his head and tell him to get his head out of his arse. I love Lacey and her feisty, strong, tenacious spirit. My heart broke when Hayden learns the truth about his mother.
This was fast, enjoyable read. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

5 stars... Wow this is such a good book - A complete standalone, this is Haydens story and what a rollercoaster it is. meeting Lacey is a massive turnaround from the usual 1 night hook ups and nameless faces he insists on. he is captivated but he seriously fights it tooth and nail. luckily lacey has his ticket. he puts her through it big-time but she is one tough cookie and gives as good as she gets. A hot, angsty book that will also bring tears to your eyes. roll on Travis' book - it's going to be EPIC!!

OMG I totally fell in love with this book. Just when I think this author can't top the book written before she does. I liked how this book kept you on your toes throughout, you really don't know what to expect. I felt.poor Laceys pain on how awful her mother was to her and.then not having a father around. Then there's Hayden who is strughling to learn that his past isn't what he was made to believe, but then these two damaged people manage to find one another and slowly work through all their setbacks earning them the love of their lives.

This is not your normal romantic read.Hayden's Verse is so much more!

This book enthralled me into it's story from the beginning. You get to both love and hate Hayden, the lead singer for Devil's Despair.
Then enter in, Lacey, a woman with a painful past. This makes for a sizzling non-couple.
Hayden's Verse is the whole package. A.C. Bextor great job and great book.Thank you and please keep them coming.

Lacey took the show!

Lacey was one tough chick! I have to say the way she handled some things was a lot different than I would have. Hayden I wanted to put through a wall more times than I could count. It just goes to show you that sometimes patient and love can get you through hard times. Truly enjoys this book even though my emotions were all over the place....I feel lots of trouble happening in the next book though! Great job!
