This review will be brief—just long enough to convey my ringing endorsement of Abigail Lee’s Shifting Lines.

What this read is:
• Fast-paced
• Low angst
• Even-keel
• A standalone
• First person point-of-view, with both MCs represented in alternating chapters

What this read isn’t:
• Long
• In-depth
• Riddled with emotional ups and downs
• Anxiety-inducing

At the novel’s start, the heroine (Riley) has just broken things off with her controlling boyfriend of three years.
“When you sit and hope that your boyfriend will cheat on you just so you have a reason to leave, well, that pretty much screamed the relationship was over.”

So she isn’t exactly looking for love or a new relationship when she stumbles upon the hero (Luke). When she sees him for the first time, she misreads a situation involving him and responds accordingly. Needless to say, the two get off on the wrong foot.

Once they’re able to get past that and find some common ground, however, their instant attraction grows into something more. Feelings develop rather quickly, and then it’s all about the two of them finding their “new normal” together.

I think what I loved most about this novel is Riley’s resolve when it came to what she wanted for herself. Since she’s just gotten out of an unhealthy relationship, she knows she doesn’t want to settle for that same dynamic again. When Luke crosses a line, she’s quick to call him on it and let him know that any controlling behavior isn’t going to fly.
“…I couldn’t fall back into another relationship that forced me to be a certain way or where the guy controlled everything.”

In addition to liking the MCs, I liked the secondary characters pretty well too—Adam, especially. I’d definitely read a novel about him finding his own HEA.

Recommended to me by a friend, Shifting Lines was the perfect answer to my reading mood at the time. I needed something relatively low-stress that I knew would culminate in a happy ending, and this one delivered. I highly recommend it to readers of new adult and romance!

Shifting Lines is by far my favorite book written by Abigail Lee. Her books are always amazing and leave me hanging with a book hangover. If I had one complaint about her books it would be that they were too short, I could read about her characters forever. I really fell for everyone in Shifting Lines especially Luke, I mean who wouldn't, he's got tattoos and rides a motorcycle and he's hot. The connection between Luke and Riley just makes your heart melt although at first they act like they want to rip each others throats out but I think we all go through that moment with the ones we love. Abigail Lee is an amazing writer, I highly recommend all her books and cant wait to see where she'll take us next, Id love to see more from these characters of Shifting Lines especially some of the friends.
