I really enjoyed this one.

It's the prequel to a series I haven't read yet but I felt the need to read from the very beginning. At the start Robert is a six year old boy and I wasn't sure if I fancied a drawn out fictitious autobiography. I'm so glad I persevered.

Robert narrates his life story from six right up to his late twenties. He has a hard start in life, neglected and abused by the people who were supposed to care for him. It's a gripping read because we learn about his emotional development from key scenes from his past, showing us what happened and how he behaved. I think this was so much more effective than a tedious inner monologue telling us repeatedly how broken and damaged he is; instead we actually get to experience his life through his eyes, with some hints of what's to come later in this series just to keep us interested.

Robert was without any romantic interest in this part, it's his coming of age story, but now I'm keen to read on and find out how this intimidating man does erm romance. Can't wait.

Recommended.

Favorite Quotes:

Vassago was a fallen angel, Joe, but one with a good heart. He’s the discoverer of the lost and hidden.

The thing I thought of the most, when I looked at that memorial plaque on the bench, was the dash. That little line between the date Joe was born and the date he died. That dash resembled his whole life, his achievements and his family. That dash was more important than the dates themselves.

My Review:

Robert is an essential prequel to the Fallen Angel series, and as tragic as his story was, it answered many questions and filled in many blanks to allow better comprehension of his inconsistent and odd reactions in the previous books. I found it quite interesting that his blood relatives and the religious people in Robert’s life were cruel, abusive, and vicious to him, while the mafia kingpin was the one to take him in to his family, provide him with training and opportunities far beyond his basic needs as well as respect, loyalty, and acceptance.

I have to say this is a must read as part of the Fallen Angel series, its a great insight into the main character Robert Stone, it tells u all about him, his horrific childhood, his teenage years living on the streets, his luck at finding someone to take him under their wing, his lifelong friendship with his street sidekick Travis. I was hooked on this series from page 1 of the first book, its fabulously written, full of tension, you can feel the hairs on your neck stand up at times. It has fantastic sexual tension, tastefully written sexual exploits and most of all it has A STORY to tell.

Please do read this and the other Fallen Angel series, you will surely be enthralled as I was with each and every one of them.

Absolutely loved reading this story and the viewpoint of the character of Robert from the Fallen Angel series, who is the main character throughout the series.

The book focuses mainly on his childhood and how he became the man he is now with the wonderful Brooke, through the decisions he made in earlier life.

You cant help but feel such raw emotion for Robert reading this book, a true unveiling of his whole life. Amazing series.

FIVE STARS ...

Reviewed by Dawn Vickers and Sharon Thérèse Nuttall on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever.

This isn’t a love story. There are no steamy sex scenes as such! This is the life story of a beautiful person who you have probably meet in Fallen Angel series, and if by any chance you haven’t had the opportunity to read book one, two and three, no worries!

❈ ❈ ❈

“I really think that one could consider this book as a prequel Dawn. What do you think?”

“I totally agree with you Sharon! In fact, I would go so far as saying that even though it wasn't written as a standalone, there’s absolutely no harm in reading it beforehand. There is no doubt that this book gives us more insight into why Robert is like he is today!”

“Dawn! This man’s was a walking time bomb in the ring! How on earth he had sufficient control to tame his ire after what he’d been through is amazing! What I liked more about him is his honestly—most certainly a lad wise beyond his years! He knew from a very young age how to use his psyche to his advantage, too! Those eyes—oh my God! I tell you what, I’d rather be on the good side of him!”

“You’re not the only one Sharon! What stood out for me was his devotion to the few people he loves!” “Just look at Travis, like chalk and cheese, but Robert never gave up on him. Quite the reverse; he instilled right and wrong from the very beginning of their relationship. Not to mention they could have easily run off with the money Guiseppi Morietti, Evelyn’s father, gave them to buy decent clothes!”

“That’s a good point you've made Dawn. And the milestone in this story. His ambition overwhelmed me. And his trust issues are quite comprehensible after what he had to bear as a child. It was a pleasure reviewing with you!”

“Me too Sharon. Like to add that the author has conveyed her characters’ personalities to perfection, a brilliant read!

❈ ❈ ❈

Robert’s future wasn't a bright one! At a very young age, he had to learn to fend for himself. Born in the south of London, he was friendless! His parents were there; however, not as parents should be. They couldn't care less for his well-being, if he was in or out of school, if a hot meal was put on the table. Circumstances dictate his destiny. He knew his American aunt was bonkers! Highly religious, she chastises Robert for existing. He had no comparison to make; nonetheless, his sixth sense kicks in and he survives.

He and a young lass, Cara, become friends. Both live in nightmarish surroundings where the protection of minors doesn't exist. They only have each other but that’s not enough. When the unspeakable happens, he does something which he has no remorse for. While reading this chapter, I literally sobbed my heart out for these two young souls. Years later, he will take revenge without batting an eyelid and believe you me, I backed him up all the way. Robert runs! He finds himself in a very precarious position only to become stronger; a fighter in the best sense of the word.

Guiseppe, aka Joe, is shrewd man. He can see Robert's potential and employs both boys. Robert is given more and more responsibility as he gets older, and boy oh boy, does he flourish! Every one of Joe’s wishes becomes his command. His ambitious drive to turn the business into a legitimate one is only possible because of the respect all Joe’s workers have for him. Except one person, Joe’s son. Joey, who is eaten up with jealousy, plays an important part in Robert’s story. A nasty piece of work I might add!

This read is well plotted out, the bloody scenes are descriptive but not overly so that you need to take a breather, and above all, the characters’, secondary included, are easy to relate to. Mmmm, Nikki! Robert wants a release, he definitely doesn't want anything serious with this conniving b**ch! On the contrary to what he thinks about love, maybe this drop-dead gorgeous man will find a woman to share his future. We will see! And Evelyn, well, she has her own story which is worthy of reading. Perhaps the author might even consider writing Travis’ story because I couldn't help fall for him!

A word to the author is in order here. You have complimented the Fallen Angel series with Robert’s story to perfection. Therefore this book can be summed up with one word…Bravo!

Review for Robert
Robert is the lead male character from the Fallen Angeles series. Don't worry if you haven't read any of the series yet (why not?????) This can be read as a standalone, or as a prequel to the series.
In this book we find out more about the man that is Robert Stone and his journey to becoming a very powerful man. In the series so far we have only learnt snippets about his life, here we learn about his past and how it's shaped his life leading right up to the start of book one in the Fallen series.
We meet Robert at the age of six, living in the UK. He hasn't had the best of starts in life and is often left to fend for himself. One day his parents are killed and he is sent off to live with his Aunt in America. Life does not get any better for him as his aunt believes he has the devil in him and preaches to him from the bible everyday. This leads on to his aunt chastising him. Robert develops a friendship with a girl at school who is suffering far worse than him, they dream of running away from the constant abuse they both suffer from. The story takes a horrible twist and Robert completely shuts off his emotions following a tragic incident. He then runs.
This is the start of his new life, we discover how he meets Travis, his best friend and brother. Whilst trying to survive on the streets they come across an organization. This is where Robert stats to make a name for himself and builds a reputation for himself.
If you are a an of the Fallen Angeles series then you will get to meet familiar characters from the books and learn more about them as well.
I fell in love even more with Robert in this story. The author paints such a clear image of Robert, he is an alpha male who has earned his place as CEO of the organization. He is a man to be respected and you can understand why at the start of book one he finds it hard to break down those walls. Roberts life story is beautiful and tragic and I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about this fallen angel.
Having read the other books in the series I loved learning more about Robert before the third instalment comes out. In Fallen Angel pt 1 we learn about Robert as Brooke does and that adds to the story, having said that, if you are new to the series you could start at Robert. My recommendation would be to read book one and two first. I think you will appreciate this book more. I am so ready for more of Mr Robert Stone.

Robert is the prequel of Tracie Podgers Fallen Angels series, and luckily for me it can be read as a standalone as I haven't read any of the other books. I also hold my hand up to not reading the synopsis for this before accepting to review it either, I liked the look of the cover and went by that. Luckily for me, that led to me finding an absolutely fabulous book! Being the prequel to a series called Fallen Angel, I assumed these books were going to be about, well, angels that had fallen! I have read a few paranormal type books lately that include such characters, but this was so far from what I imagined!

Right from the first few pages, I was sucked in and hooked on Roberts story. A tale of a little boy growing up with far from the easiest of lives, suffering at the hands of terrible people, going through things no-one should ever have to go through in an entire lifetime, never mind in the first few years of life. Roberts early years were so powerful and emotionally written my heart broke for the young boy. As he grew and got older, I adored Robert, loved the way he worked hard to get him and his friend Travis through life, and where it got them in the end.

Eventually ending up in a Mafia family, some of the things Robert and Travis had to do should probably have made me feel differently about them, but the character progression and back stories for both of them never once made me feel like it flawed them, it just made them stronger and more likeable to me!

As well as Robert and Travis, the book is also peppered with many other characters, all of them again so well written, from Roberts cold, evil aunt who I hated the second she appeared on my pages, to the sweet and caring Evelyn, and her father, Joe, who took the boys in as family. I loved all of them, even the ones you love to hate, because they were all so perfectly written.

Robert is the first book of Tracie Podgers I have read, and it wont be the last as I shall be devouring the Fallen Angels series the first chance I get!

Book Review - Robert by Tracie Podger - 4 deep and twisted but thoughtful stars

So I have a confession to make (not a church one, Robert wouldn’t like that at all), because although the author is known to me, I hadn’t read any of her work before.

Meaning, i’m going to be one of the few people who is picking up this book totally unawares of who Robert Stone is.

But that’s a great thing. Because for me, mine are a fresh pair of eyes to see if this prequel stands up on it’s own, and the answer to that is a resounding yes.

We start right back at the beginning at the age of 6, when Roberts parents are killed and he’s sent to live with his aunt. From there we get to witness untold cruelty that helps make Robert into the man he is today.

As we follow him on his journey from there to building his new life, we watch the friendships and bonds he makes, and how those shape and form him.We also take a long hard look at the dark side of him.

I found it a refreshing change to take a peek into a character so dark, and to not have the edges fluffed up to justify him. Whilst he certainly has a dark side, you are of course able to witness the redeemable qualities in him from the relationships he turns into family, and just how far he will go to protect that family. It’s just Robert doesn’t seem to recognise those qualities in himself.

This was a great tale, with hugely interesting supporting characters. At the end, he had just met Brooke, so I need to clear room in my schedule to go forward (or back in reality as those books were written first) further into the story of Mr Robert Stone. Because I feel a need to get better acquainted.

I really enjoyed Tracie’s writing style. Her prose is very descriptive and it’s easy to form an image in your head of the scene’s she paints. It was a solid 4 star for me and i’m looking forward to going back for more.

There's actually no words to express how much I loved Robert's POV. I read Fallen Angel I & II, and I was also hooked from page 1. But reading Robert's story, what made him be the man he is, helped me to understand a lot more about his behavior.
I read Robert, after reading Fallen Angel I, and then I read Fallen Angel II. Robert's story was amazing, he dealt with an awful hand of cards from such a young age, but he was able to overcome every obstacle life put on his path.
I fell in love with Robert from the beginning. As a boy, he showed but a remarkable man he was going to be, and tough he had to live a criminal life, that didn't made him an actual criminal, just made him determined to become a better man. Never the definition of Fallen Angel was better used that to identify Robert's life.
Five stars are not enough to rate this amazing book!!!

I absolutely loved hearing about where Robert came from and all that he went through. I haven't read the series but I have seen and heard much about it and now that I have ku I figured it was time to drop in and see what the fuss was all about. This book had me all up in my feelings reading about the challenges that made him who and what he was. It is a story of a boy always alone, with emotional and physical wounds that gave him the foundation of who he was. This author stretches and manipulates your emotions and completely made me hungry for more. I hear the series is amazing and may take me out of my comfort zone now to see if I can handle all that is Robert. I just hope I can. They say only the strong survive. Well this book is leading me down the rabbit hole, now all I have to do is make my way out.

Wow I haven't read all of the Fallen Angel series yet, but I've seen enough of Robert Stone to know I wanted to know his back story. His early life is heartbreaking and cruel. His early relationships are textbook neglect and abuse, and once he finds someone to befriend that relationship is devastated. These early years lay the groundwork for the man Robert is to become. Meeting those he later considers family: Evelyn, Travis, and Joe, he begins to thrive in his new life. But nothing is simple for Robert who strives to succeed and renounce his past. This novel really explains why Robert becomes the man he becomes in the series.

Robert's life hasn't been easy, he faught every day for every little thing, no support, no real love. This story is harrowing, it's hard to read in some places be a use of the pain and suffering the character goes through. This is the story of him growing up, turning into a man and finding not just himself but family, it might not be by blood but it is stronger and way more faithful and loving than anything he had known before. There is violence and abuse. Struggle and pain. Love and friendship. Mostly there is loyalty and survival. What a read!

5 Stars!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review!!!

Robert’s life as a child was far from pleasant, at six years old his parents were killed and he went to live with his crazy religious aunt in America. She had rules and if he didn’t follow them he was cruelly punished. At eleven years old, feeling abandoned and alone he decided to run away. Life on the streets was tough but he learnt how to survive.

Robert’s teenage years were spent running errands for a well respected business man; in return he had money, clean clothes, and a place to sleep. Now an adult that well respected business man is Robert Stone himself, he answers to no one and keeps his life very private. He has no interest in finding a woman and dedicates himself to his work. A dark and dangerous man, this is Robert Stone’s story.

Robert never truly had a childhood, his parents were killed, his aunt was vicious and he had no one else so he choose to run. Pasts shape how people are; what did Robert Stone live through to become the man he is now?

I absolutely loved Roberts’s story. Although Robert is a dark and dangerous man he is also a very caring and protective man. His business partners are his family and he will go to great lengths to protect them. There are surprises in this story, Robert’s past is dark but you discover that some of Robert’s actions were to get justice for others. Tracie Podger does Robert’s story a lot of justice. Tracie doesn’t hold back on the details and really brings his character to life; it’s as if you are reading a real biography.

You don’t need to have read the Fallen Angel series in order to read Robert’s story but having already read them myself, I felt I could really enjoy his story a lot more and get to know the dark and dangerous man you can’t help but love. If you want to meet Robert Stone before you read the fantastic Fallen Angel series or if you have already read the series so far and want to know more about Robert Stone, this is the book for you. You will not be disappointed!

After reading Fallen Angel Parts 1-4 and seeing how Robert the man has changed and grown; it’s now time to learn about Robert the child and how he grew into such a man.
Robert hasn’t had a conventional childhood, he was robbed of it when his parents were killed when he was six years old. He spent the next 5 years living in America with his Aunt.
Robert’s Aunt was a crazy religious lady who had rules, if her rules weren’t followed then there were punishments; cruel and harsh punishments. When Robert turned 11 he snapped, he decided it was time. Decision made Robert ended up on the streets, but he adapted and learnt how to survive. Robert’s teenage years were spent working for a respected businessman, he saved what he was paid and only spent what he needed to and swore he’d make something of himself(and Travis).
Now…
Now he is Robert Stone.
Jeez, has Robert been through some shit in his life! He had such a rough start in life he has basically taught himself everything he now knows. So many years when all he could rely on was himself. I am amazed he learnt to love and trust anyone but boy when he does he does it fiercely.
Once again Tracie has put a lot of time, effort, love and emotion into this book and it shows. As I was reading I could feel the emotions that Robert was experiencing, the heartbreak felt like my own. Even as a teenager Robert must have had some serious drive and determination to become a better person; as lesser people would have given up!
This book also gives a little more of an insight into Travis when he was younger as they were both friends and worked together, I think that Robert took on the role of the older more protective of the two, as it was him who was saving the money and making plans so that they can have a better future.
I really do need to get a hold of the novella for Travis so that I can find out more about him!
This story is heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time. I loved every page, I just wish that I had all the other books in this series to keep reading

Robert's story was emotional sad from the beginning. Everything that he went through tore through me like no tomorrow. I was hooked reading all the emotions through book. Then When he finally couldn't take anymore he runaway. After setting flames to his Aunts house. Broken and afraid he hitched a ride to New York. This is where his journey began. He stood up for a boy that was being harassed by a bunch of jerks. This is where he Meets Travis his best friend. From then on they both fended for each other. Helped each other to find a warm dry place to sleep. And Then things to eat.
Then one day Robert noticed a lady dropping her things a perfect opportunity to take her purse. When she dropped everything. Robert looked back and seen something in her eyes that made him want to help her so Instead of running off. He turned back and helped her and returned her purse. Explained that his friend needed medicine. And then she helped both him and His friend Travis made sure they both got something to eat every day.
This story had that draw in factor. but at the same time I was let down the way it ended. I am not the cliff hanger type of person. It was beautiful written. Even some mild sexy scenes. But nothing to be warpped up in. The end is when the action happened but then it ended. And I was sadly disappointed. I love Tracie's books. Even this one. but So Not sure I will want to wait. It did make me want to know what happens but I was so disappointed it ended that way. You should read her other series first :) They all have that draw in factor! Then Wait for the next book before you pick up if your not a cliff hanger person :) If you are ! Then It will be worth the time you do read :)

In this book we learn all there is to know about Mr Robert Stone.
Robert was six years old when his parents where killed in a car accident. He felt no emotion, no tears, nothing. They never really cared for him anyway.
He goes to live with his aunt in America, she is a abusive, religious women. She beats him with her belt because she thinks he is the devil and he caused his parents to die.
He received beatings off her for years and no one batted a eyelash at it. At the age of eleven he does something but doesn't realise the consequences of his actions at the time. But he survives and runs away.
Now he is a very powerful and wealthy man. He gets pulled into a life of crime and secrets and he answers to no one.
That is until he meets Brooke, she turns his world upside down. She challenges him in ways no one else has ever even tried.
This is the life of Robert Stone.

Wow, what a fantastic story! I loved hearing about Robert's life in his own words. What a tragic upbringing he had. From the day he was born, he was unloved and uncared for. Then to go and live with his aunt, who beat him for no reason.
I was happy when he found Travis and then later on Evelyn and Joe. He deserved to have his own little family. I cried my eyes out when Joe dies because he is the only father figure Robert and Travis ever had. This book defiantly made me cry, my heart broke for Robert from all the things he had to go through. But it was good to read this book to see that there are reasons behind the way he is now, with Brooke.
Robert is a truly magnificent character, and he will ALWAYS be one of my favourite characters!!
This book just made me love him more because of all the suffering he went through.

Another 5* rating for Tracie Podger!!

I enjoyed reading the rest of the Fallen Angel books a lot and I was really anxious to read Robert’s story. I always thought of him as the ultimate bad boy but knowing his background definitely added more layers to his character.

The story is one of the most heartbreaking books I’ve read recently. Portraying the story of boy who cannot trust anyone and can depend only on himself, the book brought tears to my eyes more than once. Every single word pulled me even deeper into Robert’s early years and I couldn’t stop reading. It was simply a captivating read.

Orphaned at a young age, Robert is mentally and physically abused by those he is supposed to depend on most. He finds love and understanding in his only friend until she is violently taken away from his life. He experiences grief, loss and love but he also learns that he has to fight for everything he wants in life and to protect those dear to him. After everything he goes through, it is difficult for him to trust but once you gain his trust, you stay there forever. And he will do whatever it takes to protect you.

His loyalty is tested more than once but he is always ready to stand by his friends and loved ones. He had to fight for everything he has and for all his accomplishments but that’s what made him the man he is.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. If you are a fan of The Fallen Angel Series you definitely need to read Robert. Just be warned. It is a though book to read with all the heartbreak and I can guarantee that it will make you cry more than once. But I can also guarantee that you will never regret reading it. I cannot wait to see what else Tracie Podger will serve us next :)

From being six years old Robert Stone has had his fair share of abuse and neglect from the very people he should of been able to count on, to love and care for him... His own family, when they are involved in a car crash the tears don't fall, isn't he supposed to feel something?

Robert is soon sent to live with his aunt in America, the worst and best thing to happen to him,his aunt was an evil witch and didn't like her from the start she blamed Robert for everything.

Robert soon gets out but finds himself on the street but this is when he finds his sidekick Travis, even though Robert has been through hell and back you can't help but love his determination and ambition to succeeded in life and become a better person.

I will admit I haven't read the Fallen Angel series beforehand, will I read them now that I have read Robert? Yes I will do as I am now intrigued by Robert Stone and his story.
My only real problem was I didn't fully connect with the characters, other than that good story.

Where do I start with Robert?

This is a prequel to Fallen Angel Part 1, where we delve into the life of the mysterious Robert Stone.
The question has always been, who is Robert Stone? What makes this man who he is in the series? Well, I can tell you, it's all here. The good, the bad and the ugly....and the super sexy.
It's one of those once in a life time books that draws you in from page 1, keeps you into the story, and baffles you along the way. But remember, Robert Stone doesn't do pity and sympathy. Read this with an open heart.
From a young age Robert Stone was what you could call a lost boy, a boy with no one. He meets another remarkable little boy who we all know is Travis, where Travis helps Robert and vise versa. How Robert the man came about is described and written to the point that you can envision yourself on their journey with them. It's captivating and suspense filling. And I for one am certainly looking forward to the rest of this series!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5 STARS!

I know many readers do not like books published from a different character's point of view. I love them, a lot. Usually because I hate for stories to end. I want to know MORE about the characters, their lives, what makes them tick.

Well, we found out what makes Robert tick.

My heart broke and cried for the young Robert, left behind to a cruel world at the age of 6.

Moving to America was the worst and best thing to happen to Robert. We see his transformation, but with an underlying understanding of the how and why Robert is who we meet in Fallen Angel, Part 1.

But in the back of my mind, I kept remember the Robert at age 6. The Robert that Brooke saw, and tried to bring to the front of those dark, dark eyes.

This is the way an alternate POV novel should be written.

If you have not read this amazing series by Tracie Podger, you are missing out. I am very happy I took a chance on this new author, as she quickly rose to the top of one of my favorites.

I was gifted with a copy of this book for an honest review for MNP.

Robert is an amazing soul who has finally found his place in life. In this book, you are able to follow Robert from the moment his life took a turn as a you child in England to now. Robert has grown up with this family and has learned all the different aspects of the business. He is determined to make it all legal and do things the right way. He still feels like has to protect everyone in his life.

I loved being able to to follow his relationships with Evelyn and Travis through the book. I enjoyed hearing about the home and how he felt if Travis and him had found one of those places instead of living on the street. This was a great way to show Roberts view on life and all that is around him. This book helps to piece together some of the puzzle of Robert's life. I was drawn into this book from beginning to end.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the Fallen Angel Series and Evelyn's point of view.

I loved Robert in Fallen Angel series. Robert story as told from his point of view. It shows what hard life he lived growing up. We see how and why he behaves the way he does. He treasures his friendship with Travis and they share a special bond.He is determined to make a name for himself. They meet a woman named Evelyn that helps take care of them. Her friendship helps change the course of his life. Even with accomplishing everything he wanted he felt something missing in his life. When he meets Brooke she may be everything he is looking for. I am ready for her to shake up his world and help him show a softer more vulnerable side.

I enjoyed Robert story and learning how his past shaped him into the man he is now. I loved finding out what made Robert tick and how he felt about his past and his friendship with Travis. He is wonderful man under that tough exterior with a great heart.

Having read the Fallen Angel series by this author, I was so excited to hear there would be a novel about our Robert Stone. Wanting to know his back story and how he became the man he is, had me sold!

It begins with Robert as a child and progresses to his adult years. I absolutely loved the writing in this novel and the way the author made you feel ALL the feels! Anger and pity to empathy and pride.

Robert is a complex character and he feels flawed. His love and protection for his family is the redeeming quality of his I loved most!

There were so many scenes and characters I enjoyed in this novel. The descriptions and characters were so well written.

I cannot recommend this series enough!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

FIVE STARS FOR ROBERT!!! (and the wonderful Tracie Podger)

Robert's POV of the Fallen Angel Series is just what I needed to understand this whole series. i feel in love with all of these books but this one of Robert put everything in perspective. Robert was a broken little boy, never really truly loved or belonged anywhere. Battered and beaten he finally took matters into his own hands and started standing up for himself. This book will take you on Robert's journey of his life and how he overcame struggles and came out on top. I strongly recommend this series for everyone to read. There just aren't enough words to describe Podger's writing style except it is flawless. Take a chance on this author you will not be disappointed.

Y was given a copy of this book for an honest opinion.
