Altering Horizons

Rate this book
Sarah, Victoria, and Christine have climbed to higher ground.

They now see broader horizons, new possibilities they never dreamed existed.

Consequently, they are altering their horizons, expanding their goals.

But how do they do that in Riverford, Texas in 1899?

Sarah Novak’s first year of teaching the town children has made her even more determined to educate the immigrant sharecroppers’ children and rescue them from a life restricted to the cotton fields. She loves Lee Logan, but the tradition-bound school board still will not hire married female teachers.

Victoria is producing paintings which portray strong women defying traditional gender barriers. Her horizons are altered when she understands she is called to help the needy anywhere she sees them, even in Riverford.

Christine has always seen herself as an amateur musician, but now the world is calling her to the concert stage. Can she further her daughter’s ambitions by answering that call?

As all three women struggle to alter their horizons, a flu epidemic hits Riverford, and its citizens begin to die.

What a beautiful book to end a sensational series by a wonderful in every way writer. I have loved watching these characters grow and develop in this series.

The writing is so descriptive you get into the fantastic flow of Kay Moser’s words you feel like you are right there in Riverford Texas.

Just love the folks that live there! Even the ones that seem to be unlovable, you start to try to understand their ways when you know more about the story behind their story.

This author also has a terrific talent in making the writer see the importance of having goals in life , determination and hard work that goes into dreams, and accomplishing and achieving dreams. No longer are they dreams but realities.

The title Altering Horizons is perfect for this book, which includes how the role of women and industry changed in our history. Very uplifting to see strong women making a difference in their community and how their community views others including themselves.

Kay Moser to me has a precious thread that runs throughout all of her books. She encourages all to keep hope in their heart because they are indeed worthy. God says so! She also emphasizes if God places something on your heart not only should you do it but must. You can make a difference in your corner of the world.

I loved these quotes:
“….we cannot save them all. God does not expect us to do that. He does expect us to help those He puts in front of us.”

“… It is love that fuels compassion for our fellow humans, and it is compassion that makes us work to make things better for people.”

How encouraging this book in this world that is weary and worried. I encourage all to read this books and all books by Kay Moser. Crisp and clean is her writing style. Inspiring and inviting readers to want more of her wonderful books!

I enjoyed this last book in Kay Moser’s Aspiring Women’s series. This book Altering Horizons brought back all the old familiar characters from previous books. It to me, finished off the series and characters perfectly.
The book is set once again in the same community of Riverford, Texas in 1899.

The book opens up with the women of the town trying to right some mistakes of town members, plan a wedding and soon take on several unforeseen challenges for their town. There are prejudices in previous books, and also in the here and now of this book that are still being tackled by our “ladies”. Victoria, Christine, Sarah, and others.

Throughout the entire series they were truly inspired by their desires to improve the plight of the immigrants and less fortunate in their community by their kindness and love of others.

Although not specifically written about it in this book the suffragette movement was starting up in Texas and around the U.S. and I could see it being apart of the background of the story.

You can read it as a standalone but the series helps with character context and continuity. Excellent series in my opinion. Again beautiful ending to a great series.

Wonderful author Kay Moser's vivid descriptions and unforgettable characters
drew me into her captivating story immediately, and kept me turning the pages, not wanting to put ALTERING HORIZONS down. I felt as though I was in 1899 Texas,
alongside strong and determined Sarah, Christine, and Victoria, and others, as they stood up for the rights of women, and created positive change for the immigrants in their
town of Riverford. The inspiration, forgiveness, courage, love, kindness, hope, compassion, & empathy that you find in this book will tug at your heartstrings.
Love this book (& all Kay's books) so much. I highly recommend it! 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don’t miss this beautiful book!

This is a wonderful story! I loved how Kay wrote about the views of the society of 1899, the year before a new century. She used strong and courageous women who fought the prejudices of the day and for the people who were not of their social standing. This is how God wants all of us to be. He calls all of us to action. Pastor Neville said it best, “ we must step up to the challenges of hunger, homelessness, illiteracy, hopelessness all around us. Step up and do something practical to solve those problems.”

Such an incredible story.

Kay has done it once again. Such an incredible story of women who dared to take on the challenge of changing society and the views they had for people that were not as privileged as they were. The love these women had for others is how God expects us to have. Kay has expressed in this book the courage one can have when they follow the plan God has for them and others.
