Oath of Odds

Rate this book
They broke their curses by falling in love.
Now that love might break them.

To escape the Black Swan Mage, Grigg and Adelina made a deadly bargain with the Queen of the Sea—a siren who demands two secrets each from her the elusive Jester of Fates and the storm-bound King of the Wind.

But in the strange town of Eversacht, where girls vanish and a swirling sandpit devours anything that slips too close, the Jester of Fates is more myth than man. And as they hunt for secrets, Grigg begins seeing purple threads of hidden truths wrapped around every word, while Adelina’s wings—born from the mark of her past—carry her closer to the edge of who she used to be.

Their hearts were once torn in two and fused together, binding their emotions—and pain—forever. But the beginnings of love may not be enough this time.

Because the siren queen doesn’t trade in beginnings.
She trades in endings.

Had the opportunity to get this as an advanced reader copy and I was a little worried about jumping into the second book of a series. This is the first book from this author that I've read and I am hooked. I'll be going back to read the first book in this series and anxiously waiting for the next one to come out! I already tagged the other series that she's written in my to be read! I loved her characters and her way of getting the adventure and love story and insane situations to all work out. Really enjoyed this book!

I read this book in less than 24 hours. I think I'm a fan for life.
This one is very different from the first book. Heist of Hearts is like Mission Impossible in a fantasy setting. Oath of Odds is straight up a Caraval/Once Upon a Time/Once Upon a Broken Heart/Alice in Wonderland type fantasy. It was wild and fast-paced and probably pretty niche. If you like the stories I mentioned above, you'll like this one. Just go into it with accurate expectations, so you won't be disappointed.
Alder kind of came out of the blue. I'm still not sure what his role really is, but I'm trusting that we'll find out in the third book. I absolutely love Grigg and Adelina. They have such good chemistry.
This is not a romance series. There is some romance, yes, but if you're looking for a romantasy, this is not it. No spice.
How am I expected to wait for Chant of Cheats??? 😭😭

Incredible! This was an amazing follow-up to book 1! And of course a crazy cliffhanger. 🤯 I cannot wait for book 3, this series is so good!

5⭐️/5

This book was glorious! I loved everything about it. It was face paced, full of magic and powers, and the slowest of burn romances 🫠 I dare say I loved it more than book one 😱🤯

This story jumps right in where we left off in book one and it never really slows down. After Grigg and Adelina break their separate curses they are bound together with their shared hearts. They are tasked with collecting two secrets from the Jester of Hearts and the King of the Wind for the Queen of the Sea.

They travel to Eversacht a town where they find peculiar people and things happening. They stumble across a vortex that leads somewhere unknown - so they search for answers in the towns library. They come up with a plan where Adelina is the bait. In the process hearts are revealed, feelings are hurt, and they both find themselves in danger.

A group of them end up in an unfamiliar place where there are fantastical creatures, they have to play a twisted game, and are challenged on everything they hold dear. It ended in a major cliff hanger and I can’t wait for book three!! I enjoy both MCs so it makes the book really easy to read. I’m rooting for both of them and so love how both have changed little by little and how their love has grown. I like the magic, I really liked the emotional tie they shared, I like the unexpected twists, I like the characters, I like the quest and just really enjoyed this book!

I received a earc of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you EA Winters for this arc!

Things I loved:
💍The rings
🥜Walnuts
🛌Pillow wall
🧒🏻Alder

No spice - just kisses
No language
TW - battle scenes with gruesome results, unaliving, and torture

Favorite Quotes:

“Everything about me. I don’t want anyone in the world to know anything about me that you don’t know better and more completely. I am yours, and there is no one else but you.”

“I knew I could love you, Adelina, since the day we met. And every day since, I’ve only dared to hope that you might let me do it. I’ll love you forever, ’til my last name dies.”

Read this series if you love a fast-paced fantasy story with never-ending twists and turns! You think you know where things are going and then, suddenly, BAM, PLOT TWIST!

E. A. Winters reached a new level of imaginative in this one. This story held my attention from start to finish—from the plot, to the worldbuilding, to the endearing characters. I was hooked.

The worldbuilding in this book really impressed me. And I say that as someone who’s read over 100 books this year. I sometimes feel like I’ve seen it all, but this one was different. I often think I am pretty good at predicting endings; however, that has not been the case for this series.

Adelina is fierce, smart, kind, strong, and beautiful.
Grigg is calculating, determined, cunning, funny, and handsome. Really handsome. Haha!

They each wear their own type of shields, and I’m obsessed with watching their walls come down as they learn to love each other more and more. There were several scenes in this story that had me swooning. I am sitting here on the edge of my seat, wondering how I am possibly going to be able to wait for the final installment! I need a Grigg and Adelina happily ever after—like, right now! Haha!

With all of that being said, this is the ninth E. A. Winters book I’ve had the privilege of reading early, and every single time I wonder, how can she possibly top this? And yet, with each new release, she manages to surprise me and exceed expectations.

I loved her Dragon’s Kiss series and her Melderblood series, but I have a feeling the Heist of Hearts series might just end up being my favorite. Book 3 can’t come fast enough

TLDR: 10/10 go read this right now

Firstly, I apologize that this took me ages to read. I really wish that my semester wasn't as busy as it was, but I'm glad I was able to get this done now.

Because boy was this book an emotional rollercoaster.

I have never read a fantasy book quite like this one. The vibes were so different and fresh and fun, and I had such a fun time reading this. As soon as I was able to sink my teeth into it, I didn't want to stop reading until it was done.

And omllll that cliffhanger 😭 I am so glad the third book is coming out soon because I need to know what happens next as soon as possible!

The characters in this piece are so much fun, and so different from characters I typically read, so it was really interesting to get their points of view. Grigg, for one, is so complex and well-written. Adelina is also complex, but in a very different way. They complement each other so well, and their relationship feels very real. There are levels of insecurity and fighting preconceptions and doing everything they can to stay together when the world is trying to keep them apart. I think this book does a lovely job of showcasing how difficult it can be to choose to love someone and yet it's so worth it in the end.

Easy 10/10, I am so excited to see how the trilogy finishes out in the third book!

A curse is broken, hearts are joined, but a queen demands a price.

In this second book of the Heist of Hearts series, Grigg and Adelina set out to obtain two secrets from the Jester of Fates and the King of the Wind. How hard could that be for a jungle chieftess and a vest-wearing con man?

Their search leads them to the town of Eversacht, where girls have begun to mysteriously disappear. Could the two quests be connected?

As they dig deeper, Grigg and Adelina are pulled into a fast-paced and dangerous journey filled with fantastical creatures, looming threats, and a growing tension between them that neither can ignore.

E.A. Winters delivers another compelling slow-burn romance while keeping the content clean. It’s such a joy to read a fantasy adventure that keeps its focus on the plot and character development without relying on cursing or spicy scenes. A perfect blend of intrigue, emotion, and imagination.

A big thank you E. A. Winters for the Advanced Reader’s Copy. All opinions are my own.

There are some authors that I just live for their next book…..and E. A. Winters is definitely one of them!!

Despite having to wait for what feels like forever between each book, it’s like I can just pick up right where I left off. Her writing is so well done.

I’m loving this series so far! The chemistry between Adelina and Grigg is perfect! It’s a great friendship romance that went from enemies to lovers. With their goal to collect secrets from this different mystical entities it reminds me a bit of Caraval (which is my favourite series)

A downside I have is often the world building during fight/action scenes. It sometimes gets to a point where I don’t understand what’s going on, what’s happening to who, who does anyone look like, and if I accidentally miss a few words I’m completely lost. Just seems like too much is happening at once!

But overall, I highly recommend any of her books to anyone!

Note: no-spice, no language, some fighting and gore

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read the ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Everyone has secrets. Things to keep hidden. And it's up to Grigg and Adelina to shed some light on them. Their lives depend on it.

Oath of Odds is the second installment in a series following Adelina, a (former) chieftess of a jungle tribe and Grigg, a skillfully trained conman. When we left them in Heist of Hearts, they had just traded a deadly curse for a deadlier deal.

And now, they are linked to each other in more ways than before. If one dies, both die, and the odds are not in their favor.

E.A. Winters delivers again with Oath of Odds. It was a captivating read--with an ending I definitely didn't see coming--that I highly recommend. Five not-so-secret stars are mine to give!

Wow, this book is such an adventure! I found myself anxiously reading nonstop to see what was going to happen next. You’ll definitely want to read The Heist of Hearts first, since this picks up with Adelina and Grigg as they journey to collect secrets from the Jester of Fates and the King of the Wind.

It was sweet to see their relationship grow in this book—tender at times, but also intense as they faced new dangers. While searching for the Jester of Fates, Adelina notices a girl in trouble, and when the girl suddenly disappears, the stakes rise even higher. They must track her down while still completing their mission.

If you enjoyed The Heist of Hearts and love adventure-filled fantasy with just the right touch of romance, you won’t want to miss this one!

Wow! I think this may be my most favorite adventure series. I have read yet. Erin makes incredibly likable and hilarious main characters. Their dynamic is A+! I truly don't think I've smiled so much reading a series before. Her descriptions are iconic - never in a cliche way, but always in a, 'I could totally imagine this, and it's extremely comical.' The main character's relationship is realistic and the depth is beautiful as they both work through their wounds. Their dialogue is easy and delightful - reminiscent of how a loving married couple interacts.
I don't want to give any spoilers, so the only thing I'll say regarding the ending is I CAN'T wait for Chant of Cheats to be out!!

I think I prefer the first book out of the two. I still like the two protagonists and their chemistry, there was just something this time that left me a little disappointed and yeabing for more. I wanted more of that banter from the first book and to see Grigg and Adelina talk though some of their new budding relationship. Everything just felt so rushed, granted there us a lot of fast-paced action. I also struggled with the whole vortex and magical creatures thing. It was good, but, I think it almost got to be too much for me. Still, I'm anxious to know how their story ends and will be reading the third book when it comes out.

Oath of Odds kept the momentum of Heist of Hearts going and went even more intense. Grigg and Adelina continue to explore their relationship while trying to find the Jester of Fates. They each have to face parts of their past and their own insecurities while building on the experiences they've shared.

If you're looking for a clean romance with mystery and intense battles (emotional and physical) I recommend checking out this series!

If you want more background on the main character Grigg, I'd also recommend reading E. A. Winters' Melderblood series!

E. A. Winters knows how to keep you hooked! I love a story where I can't see where it's going ahead of time and this one is great. I will say I want more Grigg banter but there was a lot of serious life or death situations going on so I'll give him a pass on that one. And I wish I could be as tough as Adelina, yet still maintain a certain feminine softness.
This book was a perfect escape from reality for me, high stakes yet still just so entertaining! I can't WAIT for book 3!!

Just when you thought the first book was intense and filled with adventure the second book will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I loved the dual POV between Grigg and Adelina, it was interesting to see the story and their relationship from both sides. Highly recommend this book and series, you won’t be disappointed.

This book was a plot twisting, adventurous fun read. Grigg and Adeline have to try and figure out their relationship with each other. You would think it is easy being able to sense each others feelings. But no, feelings are different for every person and they can be fickle. Plus amongst all these heart issues they have to save each others lives because if one dies they both die.

I'm still not sure about this series. I get that she is setting things up to conclude in the final book of the trilogy, but maybe this is just not my type of story line. The writing is great, but I'm just not in love with the story. I'll finish the series and hope that it all makes sense in the end and is worth the time invested.

A fast paced creative story full of adventure, action and comedy. The banter between the FMC and MMC is hilarious and you can tell that the author put research into specific things throughout. A fun tale to read in a weekend and I am looking forward to book #3!

I always adore E.A.’s writing and storytelling. This wasn’t my favorite but I’m all in waiting to see where things go. It was a lot of action and the creativity is really fantastic. I missed the banter, things felt more serious in this one but I think that’s due to the romance increasing and the peril. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in January.so much went on in this book I think I’m gonna reread the last fed chapters before book 3 haha.
