My Final Test

Rate this book
How do you tell your future father-in-law, who happens to be a king and who thinks you a glorious hero, that you are actually a respected member of the Villains League?... This is the dilemma Lord Arkus is facing. While he has gained a certain reputation posing as the Lakeland Knight, it might not be enough to convince King Osmund to overlook this detail and give consent to the marriage. However, the said reputation is more than enough to stir trouble with the League, if word gets out.

My Final Test is Book 3 of The Lakeland Knight trilogy. It comes with 25 black-and-white illustrations.

Laura Lond is an internationally published author of 20+ novels, novellas, and short stories. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Her first job was at a literary museum. After that Laura had entered the world of business, working for large corporations like Xerox Ltd. and Fluor Daniel. Writing, however, has always been her passion. When she was blessed with an opportunity to write fiction full time (well, almost...), Laura embraced it and never looked back.

Laura prefers to write in the fantasy genre, but she has ventured out into contemporary fiction as well ("Five Million Dollar Cat," "If Grandma Ain't Happy"). She appreciates good, clean humor and often incorporates it in her works.

In addition to novels and short fiction, Laura has also released a series of children's coloring books and picture books ("Rhyming Names Funny Animals," "Help! We're Black and White" "Funny Poems," "The Kitten Who Liked To Dress Up"). While she sometimes uses artificial intelligence tools to create book covers and illustrations, Laura's texts are always 100% authentic, written by herself without any use of AI.

I tried to wait for the audiobook of this book to come out (the narrator did an excellent job on the first two!), but I couldn’t wait any longer!

This whole series is so good. Lord Arkus’ sense of humor is my favorite, and just like the first two books, it had me snorting several times!

This book does a good job of tying everything up, and has a nice complete finished feeling to it.

The characters are all still so lovable, and I love Lord Arkus and Cassandra together!

Writing is excellent.

I can’t explain why the ridiculous silliness works so well in this series, but it DOES! I recommend this series to anyone looking for a lighthearted tale of a villain who can’t help but be the hero!

Content: clean, no spice, no swearing, only mild violence ( for the whole series)

This has been a really delightful series. It was nice to see Lord Arkus finally getting his happy ending. Also interesting to get key aspects of his backstory.

I did notice a few times where the narrative slipped weirdly from past to present tense. I don't remember the earlier books having editing issues, but it's been a while.

OK, probably it should really be ⭐⭐⭐⭐—the writing is good not great, and dinner progressing is needed—but I really enjoyed this one book pretending to be 3 books.
[addendum 2016-01-01] OK, I must have dictated that review, and it was at 3:13a.m., because I have no idea what "dinner progressing" was supposed to mean. But I liked the author's light-hearted approach and the humor, the love story and the ending that was not surprising except for the details of how our protagonist got there.
