There's a woman in the graveyard, and like it or not, Conall's got a haunting on his hands.
Injured soldier Conall Mackay has never believed in ghosts, not even after thirteen years tending the cemetery of Whitetail Knoll. Then, his daughter Shyla glimpses a doll-like apparition among the graves, and a silent, seductive spirit beckons Conall beyond the gates. Soon, Conall is drawn into a dark, twisted dream of passion, betrayal, and murder... and a monstrous evil creeping closer and closer to his child.
If Conall can't untangle the cemetery doll's web of secrets, his daughter could be the next to disappear into the cemetery fog forever.
Fans of The Immortals After Dark, The Anita Blake series, and the Black Dagger Brotherhood will love this dark, twisted, and haunting romance thriller!
When she isn't visiting the worlds of immortals, demons, dragons and goblins, Brantwijn fills her time with artistic endeavors: sketching, painting, customizing My Little Ponies and sewing plushies for friends. She can't handle coffee unless there's enough cream and sugar to make it a milkshake, but try and sweeten her tea and she will never forgive you. She moonlights as a futon for four lazy cats, loves tabletop role-play games, and can spend hours watching Futurama, Claymore or Buffy the Vampire Slayer while she writes or draws.
In addition to her novels, Brantwijn has had several stories published in anthologies by Breathless Press, including the 2013 Crimson Anthology and 2014 Ravaged Anthology. She's also had a short story published in the Cleiss Press Big Book of Orgasm and the anthology Coming Together Through The Storm. She hopes to have several more tales to tell as time goes on. She has author pages on GoodReads and Amazon, and loves to see reader comments on her work. Her short stories occasionally pop up at Foreplay and Fangs, her blog at http://brantwijn.blogspot.com.
His Cemetery Doll : The title alone captured my interest, but once I read the excerpt I was entranced. A former soldier, Conall Mackay, is raising a child alone…a child he found in a graveyard. The author, Brantwjin Serrah, has an imagination that outreaches past the graveyard, and into the madness beyond. Yet, she still incorporates tenderness and empathy into the story.
His Cemetery Doll is full of deep imagery. So deep that I could feel the mist, see the fog, and taste the wintery breath of whispers. Brantwijn Serrah certainly penned a fantasy that sweeps a ribbon around this reader and whips me into another world filled with the unimaginable…and makes them real.
The relationship between Conall and what he calls his cemetery doll is nothing like I imagined. He fears, but still is drawn to her. The exquisite and touching moments existing between him and someone so far removed from the living was breathtaking…and downright heart-wrenching.
On the other hand, the relationship between Conall and his adopted daughter, Shyla, is fresh and full of life. I adored Shyla and all her differences. She is smart, inquisitive and endearing…and loves to play in the graveyard, making up stories about the ones who lie there.
All the characters in this book are well developed and I pictured every single one of them in my mind's eye. I loved, hated, gasped, smiled and even wiped a tear or two while reading His Cemetery Doll. Even if you've never read paranormal, you should give this book a try. I guarantee you'll be surprised. I can't imagine anyone reading this story and not liking it. It's frickin' amazing.

Conall and his daughter Shyla live in a big house next to the cemetery where Conall is the grave keeper. He keeps it neat and tidy and makes sure nothing is ever out of the ordinary. The two of them were perfectly happy..until she showed up. A ghost looking creature that feel and looks like a real porcelain doll, has appeared in the graveyard. She seems sad and lonely, like she's lost something very important. Shyla see's her first, and and alerts her father who is skeptical at first, but within a day, he is a firm believer. Something is definitely strange about this supernatural being..the way she lures him in..his feelings towards her, they're nothing like he's ever felt before. Soon, people in town are starting to notice something different about him, and his one and only friend Father Fredrick, seems to be hiding something from him. Will Conall and Shyla figure out why the porcelain doll arrived at their graveyard? Will Conall be able to keep himself from her? What dark and sinister secret is Father Fredrick hiding? Are they really safe?
10/10, this book is brilliantly written. The story captures your attention and mesmerizes you. I couldn't put this book down, even if I wanted to! The characters are perfectly described, every thing is in full detail, you literally feel like you know the characters. If you're into paranormal romance/erotica, you have GOT to check this out!
When I first started this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. But as I got to reading it, I found myself swept away into the story and I couldn't put it down. I was drawn in until the very end and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This is a stand alone book and ends with an HEA.
>Conall is a single father. He is raising a child, found orphaned, as his own. Conall and his daughter, Shyla, live as cemetery caretakers. One night a woman appears to them. This woman looks like a porcelain doll, with all the joints and ribbons all over her. It seems the doll may dislike Shyla, but begins a passionate affair with Conall. How that is possible,is very erotic, as cold porcelain becomes warm skin as they heat each other up.
>The local priest, Father Fred, begins to try and talk Conall into seeding Shyla away to a convent for schooling. Something feels off and soon Conall is in a race against time to rescue both Shyla and his living doll.
>This is a short story that requires a lot of suspension of belief. The quality of writing is so good. The word pictures created capture the reader in the fog and mist and give a feeling of enchantment. I liked the story, but the writing saved it from being too strange. Reading this story alone, at night, will give a reader the chills!
> This book is for an adult (18+) audience due to descriptions of sex.
His Cemetery Doll by Brantwijn Serrah is a haunting tale of a man who stepped up, saving a child he knew nothing about, only to later understand evil comes in many shapes and sizes as he tries to protect the things that matter most to him while falling in love with the very one who could be his downfall. This story is a unique read. Sure there is a creepy factor here, but like all things Brantwijn writes there is a deep emotional level of connection I felt with the characters because she made them so real, so believable I wanted them to come out on top. There is also a love that transcends magic and evil and it's found in unlikely places. Anyone who has read Brantwijn's other works will know she has a high performance for her characters and her descriptions lend so much to their reality that a reader becomes submerged into the surroundings, like passing through the pages and experiencing it as the characters. This is one of my favorite stories so far from Brantwijn. I just fell in love with the tale, the characters, and the struggles they had to go through. If you like a haunting feel to your romance, with some great twists- pick up this read- you won't regret it.
It's been a good long while since I have read a book that completely melds a few different genres together so fluidly but Ms. Serrah not only did it, she did it with style. A strong, solid plot coupled with haunting empathy pulls you into a twilight world full of ethereal shadows and dark fantasy that literally hooks you from beginning to end. I laughed, cried and hoped, falling in love with Conall, his Cemetery Doll and especially Shyla, the adopted daughter of Conall. Quite the spunky lass, if you ask me and I love when a writer can portray that although young in years, there are those children who have "old souls". If you're looking for a read that will wrap around you like a warm blanket and not let go, then look no further. Ms. Serrah, as always, has the skill to navigate both a plot of depth and intelligence while infusing tangible emotions into her characters that resonate with genuine sincerity.
Wow. I'm breathless from reading this story. While not giving spoilers, this is a creepily romantic read which will leave you dying to turn each page and discover the characters. Beautifully written, each character has flaws which make them as 'human' as you or I and gives the story layer upon layer of richness. More than a romance or a ghost story, this is also fantasy mixed with an too real reality. Con is an extremely likable Hero; Shy is portrayed wonderfully as that not-a-child but not-yet-a-teen stage, and the doll made me both laugh and cry. There were parts I actually had to stop reading since I was home alone at night! I never envisioned a 'horror' story as romance until His Cemetery Doll. Amazing Job, Ms. Serran. I can't wait to see what you do next.
If this had been a YA thriller, I may have given it four, possibly five, stars.
But this is a paranormal erotica novel, for 18+ only, and for a reading level like that, the story had a rather predictable ending and had gaps, which I won't go into because I don't want to give away any spoilers.
I do give props to the author for the amazing creepiness of the doll herself, but it wasn't enough to hold me in suspense as an adult thriller should.
Without the sex scenes, this would have made a great, chilling thriller for a YA reader. But with the 18+ labeling, the incredible tale unfortunately became mediocre.
I just finished reading an advance copy of this book. I really enjoyed it. The story hooked me immediately, and I couldn't put it down until I finished! This book contains elements of all of my favorite genres: Horror, Romance, Ghosts, Mysticism, Kidnapping, Suspense, even a few really steamy sex scenes:-). I will definitely be reading more from this author. Her plot line is strong, her imagery is fantastic, and her editing is tight (I didn't find a single typo...a pet peeve). I definitely recommend reading The Cemetery Doll, just don't read it at bedtime...
This book was an interesting read. The idea behind it was not something that has been overdone. It drug a little and at some points I could predict what the outcome was going to be. I found some of the interactions with the doll a little disturbing. The ending took me by surprise and left me wondering.
I think this book is worth a read and would read something from this author again.
When I first started this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. But as I got to reading it, I found myself swept away into the story and I couldn't put it down. I was drawn in until the very end and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
A terrific read that would make a good sensuous horror film
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The hero Conall is a nice, ordinary, decent man, possibly one of the best moral men I’ve come across in ages. The child, Shyla, is a great character too, sensitive and not mawkish.
The story itself built nicely, and there was a good balance between horror and hope. Without going into spoilers, this is a story you will probably want to read in one go.
One thing that thrilled me was that it’s set in the UK after WWII and it mentions the bombings of Clydebank where the shipbuilders were working. My father’s family are from there, and my father used to tell me about those bombings so it was odd and yet familiar to see it mentioned here.
The one thing I felt was a bit awkward was the revealing of the reason behind the haunting. There was too much information dumped in one go, and some of it didn’t quite hook up for me. But overall it was a great read and I’d certainly put Brantwijn Serrah on my Favourite list.
I liked the cover, so I tought it could be good, but I was wrong. In the beginning it was fine, but the further I read the stranger it became. There was so much sex in it, and a litle bit romantic sex is fine, but I did not liked this. I think I can honestly say, I will never read o book from her agian.
OMG!!! This book was amazing. I couldn't put it down. Very well written. My fave character is Broken Doll. Such a ghostly beautiful woman. This author is amazing. I recommend her books.
I’ve often referred to getting a review copy from an author as getting a Christmas present. Like presents under the tree, I resist the urge to peek, shake and rattle the present, preferring instead to enjoy the surprise that comes from opening the package. For this reason, I don’t research the author or the book before reading it. When the pages start turning, there is a 50/50 chance you will get a soft cardigan to wrap up in, or another ugly sweater from Great Aunt Nettie that hurts your eyes. You know the one, that monstrosity that you can’t shove back into the box fast enough.
When the offer went out for a review copy of Brantwijn Serrah’s ‘His Cemetery Doll’, I jumped at the chance. As a suspense/horror/science fiction buff, the name alone had my attention. This particular present proved to be a cardigan, with some serious surprises. There were only a few pulled threads that kept it from getting the full five stars.
‘His Cemetery Doll’ is a haunting story about a grave keeper, trying to do what is best for his daughter while his world – and sanity – begin to unravel and he comes face to face with true evil. Most of those pulled threads I mentioned were the product of the pre-zone first chapters. A few word choices that were a little jarring, some discontinuity, and the initial backstory delivered with static exposition.
As the story progressed and the author hit her stride, her true talents quickly took center stage. The characters were well developed, the plot was well-timed with surprising twists, and her descriptions were a testament to her skill as a writer. Just as my suspicions were confirmed, the plot twists carried me in a new and more disturbing direction.
Did I mention I didn’t peek before opening this present? ‘His Cemetery Doll’ was my first sojourn into paranormal erotic romance. As surprised as I was, I thought the sex scenes were well timed and served the story well, shooting the creepiness factor of this book from a 6 to a full 10.
Ms. Brantwijn Serrah and her genre, have a new fan. This talented author has nowhere to go but up and I look forward to seeing her develop as a writer.

Don't you just love it when someone comes up with something different!! I've filed this under horror and paranormal, because, for me, it covers both bases so beautifully!!
Conall is working the grave yard, raisng his daughter as best he can. The local priest wants Shyla to join the Sisters up the road, to learn nursing. Conall is not best pleased by the idea. He is also struggling with the over growing weeds and vines, that seem to double in size over night. Thrown in that Shyla is seeing a woman in the grave yard, and then Conall starts seeing her too, he is just about at the end of his tether.
Set some time after the Second World War, it doesn't say exactly, it has elements of horror, scary stuff for 13 year old Shyla. Elements of paranormal, the doll in the graveyard. And ghosts too! Little bit of everything, throw in a nutty priest, and you got such a good book!!
It didn't go the way I thought it would, I couldn't see what the priest was up to, at all. So, I LOVED that surprise, I really did.
It is only told from Conall's POV. It is in the third person, but still I would have liked to have heard from the doll, oh, the doll especially! and from Shyla too. But thats just me, I know I know. But I gotta say it!
I don't always read the bit at the back of the book, but I did hear. It tells that this story had been brewing for a long time in the author's world. I'd just like to say, well done for sticking with it, I really enjoyed it!!
4.5 stars
**same worded review appears on Goodreads, Amazon.com and Amamzon.co.uk**
There is a women in the graveyard. She is hauntingly beautiful and looks like a porcelain doll. But there are cracks in her beauty.
Conall is raising his daughter, Shyla on his own. Only she is not his real daughter, he found her abandoned as a baby in his cemetery. Shayla claims she sees a women in the graveyard. Conall doesn't believe in ghosts and tells her she is imaging things. Then he see her, his cemetery doll. She comes to him and they actually form a relationship.
Brantwijn Serrah does a great job of developing the characters in this book. You can feel the sadness of the cemetery doll. As you read the storyline it sucks you in and keeps you on the dye of your seat. It has just the right amount of fantasy in it. Is the doll an angel, a demon, or something else? It will keep you guessing. In the end I did not see the twist coming. It was a dark sinister secret.
If you want a story that is full of imagination, fantasy, erotica, love, sadness, and just this right amount of paranormal you will want to read this story

I’ve gone back and forth on what to rate this book over the last couple of days. On the one hand, the book is incredibly well done, the narrative flows together to create a vivid “movie of the mind” that, once started, you won’t be able to put down until its conclusion. On the other hand, the underlying concept behind the main romantic couple is … deeply disturbing. I might need therapy to recover.
Ultimately, I decided that the fact that I was sucked in enough to BE disturbed by them is just another feather in this book’s cap. The story had excellent pacing, and it was easy to picture each character, how they felt and thought. It has something for everyone, with just the right amount of romance, suspense, horror, and mystery. It is truly a unique read with lore and preternatural creatures unlike any I’ve ever seen.
The editing was well done, and aside from a few sporadic typos, I do not have much to report there. I rate His Cemetery Doll by Brantwijn Serrah 5 Platypires!
A paranormal erotica novel. Conall is a single Dad raising an orphan child as his own. Conall and Shyla his daughter live in a big house next to the cemetery where he works as the grave keeper. One day a ghost looking creature shows up she looks and feels like a porcelain doll. She just appeared in the grave yard. The doll seems sad and lonely. Shyla seen her first and tells her dad at first he is skeptical but soon he is a firm believer. Something is strange about the doll she lures him in, his feelings towards her are like nothing he has felt before people in town soon notice something different about him. Father Frederick his only friend seems to be hiding something from him. Will Conall and Shyla figure out why the doll showed up at the graveyard? Will Conall be able to stay away from her? What dark secret is Father Frederick hiding? Are Shyla and Conall really safe? If you enjoy paranormal / erotic romance i highly recommend you read His Cemetery Doll.
I received this book as a gift from the author. What a great read...from the first page through the last page I could not put the book down. Conall and his adopted daughter Shyla were lovable and great characters. The sex scenes between Conall and his cemetery doll were hot and steamy. When you read this book make sure you have lots of lights on...its a creepily haunting enjoyable read. Thanks for an awesome read Brantwijn Serrah!!!
How can I describe it without giving too much away? It started off gently, then got spooky, eased in some hot and steamy scenes, then went into horror territory... I think I'd categorise this as an adult supernatural thriller. I really didn't expect some of the later twists, and I really enjoyed the descriptive and evocative narrative during the spooky bits.
Really enjoyed it, recommend it heartily. Yes, even if you don't like spooky or horror stories, I think you might well enjoy this.
This story is great. I say that because it keeps you in suspense, it's scary, it has a little sex mixed in; but, mostly, because it spends most of its time in a graveyard which is spooky!
