I reviewed this through Audiobook Boom in exchange for a fair review.
The reader; J. Scott Bennett, does a decent job. I didn't find him distracting, but I wasn't crazy about his voices for women.
This author is not my cuppa... Here's why;

#4 'Westward Destiny' ** 2 Stars
Jamie and Luke
Luke is lonely but gun shy with women after being jilted at the alter. He just wants a guaranteed wife.... so Marcus (Mr. matchmaker from the first 3 books in the series), writes an ad for him for a mail order bride. Jamie longs to leave town but has no options, until she read Luke's ad. The attraction is instant and Luke's shy but sincere demeanor balances Jamie's wild and playful one. There's a lot of references to the first 3 books so maybe some mild spoilers.
Jamie is quite sensually beautiful and playful and so people tend to make assumptions that she is of easy virtue. This gets played up quite a bit and becomes a podium for the author to sermonize on. It got quite tiresome and I started to not like Jamie. I know you shouldn't be judged for your looks, but she was so self righteous and then gives Luke the 'silent treatment' for weeks. WEEKS! Talk about holding a grudge. Does the author have anything to say about this childish behavior? No. Everything is the man's fault, when I thought he was just concerned for what people would think of her. Oh and don't get me started on the gambling! Stupid behavior leads to stupid consequences, but the author doesn't have anything to moralize on about that.
If I hadn't promised to review this one, I would have DNFed at 2/3rd in when she started with the silent treatment for Luke, not even letting him explain himself.
Hope the next one is better with less sermonizing by the author.

#5 'Westward Fortune' *** 3 Stars
Lacey and Joe
I enjoyed this one more than the previous book. Lacey lives in fear of her abusive father. Why does she stay with him and not move in with her friend Sammi??? Good question. No idea. Instead she replies to Joe's ad for a wife. Joe is a happy go lucky kind of guy who can't imagine settling for one woman, but has to marry to get the money in his grandfather's will. Joe is upfront with lacey about the marriage being more of a business arrangement and that he won't be faithful. She's good with that, not really knowing him yet but needing the marriage to protect her from her father. The marriage is going great and the H and h have more in common than they thought. Until tragedy strikes and Lacey takes out her anger on Joe. Sure he was a thoughtless twit, but as usual with this author, Lacey was super self righteous and blah blah blah...
But I loved joe's act of contrition to win Lacey back. It was super sweet and the ending was lovely.

#6 'Westward Justice' DNF @ 20%
Sammi and Mitch
For pity's sake. I can't finish this one.
Sammi is the 3rd of the trio of friends from Walhalla South Dakota. She is tall, wears pants and carries a gun. I liked her at first. Mitch is the deputy in town and after tragedy strikes, becomes the sheriff just before Sammi rides into town in response to Mitch's ad for a bride. At first they seem suited but then Sammi allows people to think she is the new deputy. She is hoping Mitch will actually offer her the position. So she thinks that masquerading as an officer of the law will sway him?? Really? Oh yeah, and then she sucker punches him because he gets mad at her... I'm sure that'll make a great impression! Hitting a cop. Sheesh. I just can't bring myself to listen to the author preach to me (the reader) through the characters about how this is all Mitch's fault.
Let's say Sammi is a guy and does these things. Does the author really think Mitch wouldn't throw perp in the cage with the other drunken lout? WTH???

Westward Destiny
3 Stars

Westward Destiny the 4th book of the Montana Mail Order Brides series was not my favorite thus far, but still very entertaining. I really enjoy the inhabitants of this small Montana town.

Jamie was not liked by many in her hometown of Walhalla, North Dakota. This was mostly in part because she didn't follow tradition. Most of the women during that time were respectable and careful to not stand out. Jamie was the opposite. She stood out like a flashing light in the dark. While I admire women that march to the beat of their own drum and are true to themselves I felt that Jamie was just an attention seeker. It seemed that she just wanted to be shocking and looked at. That's where her character fell short for me. There are people in this world that just naturally stand out and demand attention and I wouldn't even care that Jamie liked to go to bars, play cards and tell dirty jokes which was way out of line for most women, but she did that stuff meanwhile adding in over the top behavior so she was sure the world saw what she was doing. Or at least that's how I felt reading it.

Luke was a character that I loved. He was a hardworking man that was honorable and loyal. So when he fell for Jamie it was a bit disappointing for me. Don't get me wrong she had a lot of good characteristics and made Luke happy but it just seemed that he had to sacrifice everything for her happiness rather than it being an even agreement.

Westward Fortune
4 Stars

Westward Fortune has renewed my faith in this series. Not that I hated the book before this one but I was a little concerned that they were all going to focus on the heroine being over the top.

Lacey was raised my an alcoholic father that basically did nothing for her in life other than teach her to take care of herself. As his behavior became more violent Lacey knew she was going to have to get out or he would eventually kill her. Luckily her best friend had blazed the trail to Montana as a mail order bride and Lacey was ready to give it a try too.

Joe was fantastic. He was wild and crazy but in all the right ways. He may have been born with all of the advantages due to his family's wealth at that time but he never let it affect how he treated people. He was honest and appreciative of anyone that did anything for him and repaid them in kind. Even when his father informed him that he had to marry to gain his inheritance Joe planned on being honest with the woman that he chose.

When Lacey and Joe married I think I fell in love right away with them. Both went in with their eyes open and no secrets or promises between them. But, they had this immediate bond that was no way they could deny. I really enjoyed their romance and following their story to see where love took them.

Westward Justice
4 Stars

So good. I loved Sammi and Mitch. Both characters were strong and had a ton of integrity. Nothing could beat them when they put their mind to it.

Sammi was lonely after her 2 best friends moved to Montana to marry the husbands that they met through a mail order bride column. With nothing holding her in North Dakota Sammi decides to answer an ad herself. After all the worst that could happen is she gets to see her friends again and it doesn't work out with the guy. Sammi is perfectly capable of caring for herself. She wears pants when women just did not during that time. She knew how to shoot a gun better than most men and was always on the lookout for anything that could hurt her.

Sheriff Mitch Taylor would love to find a wife but he needs someone independent and strong. After all it is not easy to be a sheriff's wife. Seeing how well it worked out for his friends he decides to put an ad out for a wife. When Sammi responded it seemed like the perfect fit.

I loved when Sammi made the trek to Montana to meet Mitch. You could tell he was immediately smitten and loved her spirit. The couple had to find a way to adjust to one another but it was a really fun adventure watching them work it out.

Unrealistic and too many sexual innuendos

I think the female protagonists and how they were viewed by other characters in the stories were unrealistic portrayals for the time periods.

After winning a contest from the narrator, Scott Bennett, I was given a free code for the audiobook version of these stories. I was excited about listening to the next batch (4-6) as I had listened to the first batch (1-3) not too long ago, plus I’m a big Scott Bennett fan.

On that note…the narrator and the fact the stories were good overall was what kept me listening to these stories. I’ve listened to several of Mr. Bennet's narrations, and he always does an awesome job. I think had it been someone else, I probably would have stopped. Similarly, if I'd chosen to read these stories as opposed to listening, I KNOW I wouldn't have continued. While the stories themselves were written nicely (they were interesting and held my attention), it was the dialogue, especially the tags, that really annoyed me. There were way too many “he said, she said, so-and-so said” in these stories. I don’t remember having this issue with the previous stories; so, I’m not why the change (if there was one). When there are two characters in a scene, dialogue tags aren’t even necessary especially simple ones like “he said.” If the writing is good and easy to follow, which I felt it was, the fewer dialogue tags, the better, in my opinion. This almost makes me think the author was unsure about her wrote, which I don’t understand. Either way, a proofreader, editor, beta reader, etc. should have spotted these and mentioned them to the author. Now it’s one thing to use just a dialogue tag (“he replied, she answered, they reassured her”), but at least add in an action to let the reader/listener know what the character is doing while or directly after they said something (“he answered, stepping back toward the door”). I don’t know what the author was thinking with all the dialogue tags though, for example, ending one character’s dialogue with “Seth said,” then starting the next dialogue/sentence with “so-and-so said.” She always used “said” like 99% of the time. No. That was a no for me. Had I edited this story, I think I would have deleted the majority of them; they were just too much.

There seemed to be a good amount of repetition as well. For example, “She went to the table and looked on the table.” I’m not a fan of sentences like this.

At first, I went with book 5 as being my favorite story out of the bunch, but then it changed to book 6. I wasn’t really a fan of Jamie as I felt she was too forceful, but that’s just my opinion. I loved Joe; he definitely came across as being a good guy who just wanted to help…and have fun on the side. Sammy was an interesting character especially given the time period the story is supposed to be taking place in. I liked her relationships with Owl and Mitch. I’m going to continue the series because I’m curious to see how Jack and Sparrows relationship progresses as well as I’m curious whether Owl will end up with a new wife.

These audiobooks present the listener with fun, light stories of young cowboys reaching out via newspaper ads for a bride. The characters are warm and enjoyable; watching them interact provides a sense of contentment. I will say that there are many instances where I thought these books were more contemporary than historical (and that's why this receives only four stars), but I still found them compelling listens. I wanted to know what happened next. I still do! And there are more books to follow in this series, so I’m hoping to find them in an Audible sale sometime soon. While the author may not perfectly follow historic fact, she does make the stories entertaining and does an amazing job at connecting one book to the next. I look forward to learning how the next set of books is connected to these three and the three earlier ones.

The narrator, J. Scott Bennett, offers the perfect voices and delivery for this series of books, and I don’t say that just because he gave me this box set as a gift. He made it very easy to follow the story, even when I was doing other things while I listened. It was rare that I had to go back, as I often do in audiobooks, and re-listen to a section. I was surprised at how well he distinguished each female voice, and there are quite a few women characters, so that you could almost always know which woman was talking. His male voices are very good too, but I find the fact that he can do women’s voices with such panache is a sign of his talent. He gets an A+ from me for his work on this series.

For those to whom these are important matters in choosing a book, there is discussion of rape and instances of premarital sex. There are also some swear words used, but overall, this is a sweet, clean set of books that revolves around the Samuels family and their friends and neighbors.

If you enjoy light, historic, humorous books, these very well might be a hit with you.

I received this audiobook from the narrator as a gift. His generosity had no influence upon my stated opinions. I thank him for sharing his talent, and that of Linda Bridey with me, and apologize for taking so long to get around to completing my listening. The delay had nothing to do with the quality of the books or their performance.

This boxset holds many hours of enjoyment that will make you smile, laugh, hold your breath and make your jaw drop. They are touching stories with true emotions that really touched my heart.

Westward Destiny
We met Luke before when his bride left him standing all alone broken hearted and not understanding what just happen. This is his story and his race to find his happy ever after with one foot in his mouth and the other high tailing it to get his women back after a few misunderstandings. Both Luke and Jamie are broken souls both wanting a family and someone they can call their own. Jamie is a little on the wild side and not what you would call you normal lady but that is ok with Luke just not some other family members. Things are looking up that is until she meets his parents and as we all know mother-in-laws can be a hard pill to swallow. Things start going downhill as Luke finds his self in one mess after another.

Jamie isn’t well liked at all, women are jealous of her for many reason. She isn’t looking for a love match she had a wonderful marriage she just wants someone who will take care of her, give her a family and be her friend but most of all to take her like she is. Luke is ready to try again but this time he isn’t looking for love he just wants a partner someone to have a family with. Both got more than they asked for and gave us the reader lots of laughs as well as a little sorrow.

Westward Fortune
The author covers a lot of issues from abuse, as well as two old men who are very unhappy and take it out on those they should love, starting over, learning what love is and what the important things in life are. Lacey needs to get out of town and away from her abusive father, when an ad come in the paper knowing she can be close to her friend she jumps at the chance. Joe wants out from under his hateful father’s hands, but he needs to be able to buy him out. To do that he must get married to get the money left to him by his mother. This is where the story gets very interesting from jealousy to broken hearts as danger comes near a lot is lost in a few minutes which will change the lives of so many.

Lacey’s story is so sad my heart really went out to her, the one thing I wish we would have seen was how her father took her leaving once he found out she was gone. Maybe we will see that in future books. Everything is going so well for them until something happens that leaves their future in turmoil. I felt the pain and sorrow but felt Lacey may have over reacted a little, I did understand why she was upset but felt she might have been thinking more of herself and putting her feelings first. Joe is something else with his sweet-talking ways that gets him into a little trouble and makes it hard to outlive his reputation. He has some back paddling to do to win the love of the woman he can’t live without. He is smooth, a gentleman, a charmer, and has a wick sense of humor.
Westward Justice
Sammie is a different kind of women she truly stands alone, strong, demanding, she is out to prove she is as good as any man. When Deputy Taylor posts the ad for a woman whose strong, independent women Sammie jumps right in. Once she hits town she shakes it up long with Deputy Taylor. This was a very exciting, thrilling and adventures read that grabs your attention giving the read lots of smiles, laughs and a few drop jaw moments. I totally loved it. Very well written and thrilling I couldn’t put it down.

Overall:
I thought these stories were well written, the author gives you both sides making you feel both their pains as well as the turmoil that goes with it. They are very entertaining and holds your attention. There is a little bit of everything from romance, broken hearts and danger. You get to see the past characters they play a big role though-out each story. It was so nice to see them and see the changes they have made. I can’t wait to read more of this series. The author fills it with pain and sorrow but with humor. Even my husband who hates listening to audios laughed a few times as we were painting the house.

The narrator does a wonderful job delivering true emotions to the story, you always know who is talking and just what that are feeling. There are no repeating of words, no background noise just a truly enjoyable listen that pulls you in. His normal voice is very pleasant as well as his character voices, his voice is easy to listen to and gave me many hours of enjoyment. He made me feel the pain and sorrow each character is going through as well as the excitement and danger that comes with this story. With his narration he made me understand why some people act the way they do and that not everything is as it seems. For me he bought this story to life making it easy to picture each scene as it was happening. His performance was top of the line pulling me in giving me a listen I couldn’t put down. If you haven’t listened to any of his audios you don’t know what you are missing.

Not all the stories in this 23 book, delightful, charming, clean Western romance series are mail order bride plots, but it is a wandering theme winding through the series.

In books 4 to 6, we move to the cousins and friends of the lead characters in books 1 to 3, while those characters continue to play key plot roles.

While the books in the series function as stand alone stories, characters and story lines do carry over. Also, characters have enough charm that you will want to follow them chronologically, so I recommend reading in series

Book 4 -Westward Destiny. Jamie, a widow in Cypress, North Dakota seeks to flea a bad job in a mean town by answering the ad of Luke Samuels. Luke, cousin to Dean, Seth and Marcus (heroes of books 1-3, was left at the alter 2 years earlier but wants to have the happy marriage he sees in Dean-Tessa, Seth-Maddie, Marcus-Claire (books 1-3).

Book 5 - Westward Justice. Joe Dwyer, family friend to Luke Samuels (hero Boom 4,) is a rich playboy whose mother's will.makes him in need of a bride, while Lacey (friend of Jamie, heroine book 4) is willing to be a mail order bride to flee North Dakota and her violent father.

Book 6 - Westward Fortune. Sammi, in Cypress ND misses her best friends Lacey and Jamie (heroines of books 4 and 5) has seen her friends find happiness through the Old West matrimonial ads, so she answers the posting of Mitch, a deputy sherriff.

This is Mail Order Brides Box Set Books 4-6 Part 2.. This is a continuration of the part 1 of the Mail Order Brides; Books 1-3. This includes all the same wonderful characters but includes more. These books are outstanding, I loved them. As time went by the three brothers had a few ups and downs but the love for family was always there. Their families grew in number and became close. As each boy grew older they marked out their own path in life.

This author has written many Mail Order Brides stories, each is different and unique. Each character is defined in detail, lively with different personalities. The storyline held my interest throughout the book. Linda Bridey has a great talent and is skilled in her writings. I also used an audible with this set of books, this makes the book come more alive, interesting and entertaining. During this time at home, Linda Bridey has greatly entertained me as I sit and read her books, she made my life more enjoyable.

This bundle includes three books set at some unspecified time in the past. I almost didn't finish reading the first book as the writing in the first chapter was so poor and the main female character was not particularly likeable to me. The author chose to portray her as someone quite different from the demure sweet heroine one would typically expect to find in such a story. Bridey also incorporated modern day phrases in her writing occasionally (like No harm no foul) which seemed out of place. She did catch my interest over time though and as the series progressed the writing improved and I quite enjoyed the links between the characters and was interested enough to move on to the next book bundle in the series. Don't expect historical accuracy in these novels but they do make for good beach reads and have happy ever after endings.

Love this series of Montana Mail Order Brides by Linda Bridey

I am supposedly reviewing books 4_6 of this series but really I am going to leave my thoughts on books 1_6. I feel that Linda Bridey is an amazing storyteller. I love these kinds of series that engage a whole community of characters. Linda's ability to weave the story to not only a whole western town but include a Lakota tribe as well is inspired. She never fails to deliver with new and fascinating scenarios, all with a touch of humour that delights and makes me laugh right out loud. When I finish one set I can't wait to get the next set immediately and I am profoundly grateful that these books are on Kindle Unlimited, so that I can read them all . She is an awesome author. I particularly loved the tough character of Sammi. Whooee!

Train wreck

Where should I begin? Maybe the 'author' should take English Literature & Creative Writing classes. Maybe the 'author' should research the period in which she sets her stories. Maybe the 'author' should pay for a real editor. She firmly placed the stories in this collection in the Victorian Era, yet she used anachronistic 20th century English routinely throughout all the books. She used the wrong words repeatedly because they are homonyms. She repeatedly used Politically Correct terms for the Native Americans that she prominently featured in her stories... terms that were never used until the late 20th century. Her grammar & spelling is awful. This set of books is a childishly written, fatuous exercise in vanity publishing.

Love this series! Clean sweet reads...

Ms Bridey has a wonderful way with words, and she weaves a great story. What started in book one with a single mail order bride has turned into a town of friends as other friends join her in this charming little town in Montana. The author has definitely done her homework whether she is introducing friendships with the local Lakota tribe or describing a gun purchase. I have tnoroughly enjoyed reading this ongoing saga, and I was delighted to see there is another boxed set awaiting my p!easure after books 4-6.

I chose these books from a mass giveaway. I think otners will enjoy them as much as I have.

Hard pressed to choose a favorite character amongst so many that have kept me coming back for more throughout the stories.

Also hard pressed to actually choose a favorite couple in these 3 new pairings.

Just like in past mail-order-bride reads these went by too quickly and between getting to know each main character seeing how the secondary characters helped carry the plot to it's ending made all 3 short reads that much more well rounded for me.

Looking forward to continuing with next three novellas in series soon.

Juvenile and Historically Inaccurate - DO NOT RECOMMEND

As stated above the writing is very juvenile and just bad. The themes and storylines are not developed and again the dialogue, inner monologue, interactions, behaviors are all cliche, corny and 100% historically inaccurate. If you’re going to write a historical romance, even if it’s fast fiction, you have to take the time to not lazily use 21st century social norms and language. DNF at 12%. I skimmed and skipped to this point.
SEX SCENES - No, a scene alluded to it but that’s all. Again DNF.

I really liked these books but I may be partial to the historical fiction books. Book 4 was my favorite. Jaime's playfulness would be something I would do. I found myself laughing outloud. The second book was good, but it didn't make me laugh just feel for Lacey. Book 6 was interesting. I kept thinking Calamity Jane. I made a big smile during parts of this book. All had strong female characters.

Great read

You know you’ve found a great author when they evoke the “ feels” in you. When you find yourself laughing with the characters, or sobbing with them. When you’re afraid for them or you mourn with them. That’s what this author has done in this series. Her words paint a vivid portrait of this town and the people who live there. You get caught up with them. You can’t help yourself. Please if your a sucker for western romance read this series. You will be glad you did.

And the saga continues.......

The three in this box set where great. The individual stories where awesome in there self. What I liked most was how the author integrated all the stories ,from book one to now, in the story line. This enables you to follow there lives and see how things evolve for the other characters too.

Three women in need of cowboys

All three women had their reasons for going west to look for husbands and it turned out to be a very good move for all three women. The author made their personalities really come out in the stories and matched them to the right kind men for it to be good to read.

Interesting reading

I enjoyed the 3 book's but as I hasn't read the first 3 I was a bit confused when there were references to previous happenings but no details. If it was not in the story then maybe a prologue could have supplied this information, like Marcus' linkks to the Lakota and Seth's accident.

Great addition to series

I love reading how this little town expands one bride at a time. This collection had a few more grammatical errors than norm, but they seemed to be words cut off to fit the page or the fault of the publishing agent. Either way, great to read. And you don't have to read in order. I have already read to book 13 and then read these.

4.5 🌟

Very cute and entertaining. Lots of humor, no foul language and no explicit sex scenes. Well written, historical time period novels. Linda Bridey draws the reader in to the story line quickly and makes you feel as if you are part of the story. The good editing job makes for more interesting books, also! If you like reading romance in the old west, this is your series.

Good story but language is horrible

The plot of the stories was very good and interesting. It kept your attention but the stories could have been written without all the bad language in it. It did not make the stories any moire interesting. I will not read any more of the series,

Wonderful Read!

I absolutely love these different series by Linda. I enjoy the variety of minority characters and the the issues that each couple has to face.

Sammi's story hits home for me in a lot of ways. I grew up having parents there but grew up tough and reliant on myself and had horrible things happen.

I look forward to reading many more of Ms Bridey's stories!!!!

Great Read

Every book I read about the citizens of Dawson, Montana makes me laugh, cry, angry and mist if all love. The main characters, the Samuels family, Joe the new mayor and ex-play boy and the Lakota tribe make my heart sing but also ride a roller coast of emotions. This is my third reading and it just gets better.

Good stories that follow each other. Quick, clean reads. The series needs more editing. Author over used the word "said". I use text to speech since a stroke limits my reading abilities. Drove me crazy hearing "said" over and over and over.

If you like romances, excellent story lines with outbursts of laughter (the reader) then this series of books is for you. I’m only halfway through the series and can’t wait to read the rest.

Only my opinion

Another good read. My advice to other readers is to start at the beginning of the series and follow through. The only critics I have is better editing is needed. Bye I'am moving on to the next series.
