3.5 Winter's Beauty and Open Hearts Stars * * * 1/2
This was a treat in transporting me to place I have never been. By reading all the books I do, one of the perks is travel of the mind. In this book, I went to Yorkshire, England and experienced a Christmas with the feel of cold, earth and joy... the joy of two people meant to be together.
There were two people who, although lived very different lives, had deep connections emotionally. Both had thought to love out of loneliness and need. He paid the price for it in a severe way...with the saving grace of a daughter he barely knows. She developed feeling for a man who had no business encouraging her or being with her...She acted without thought...yet had the wherewithal to pull away before she totally lost herself.
We meet both of these characters when she is seeking solitude... running from demanding, judgmental parents and family. Finally taking advantage of her godmother's offer of the cottage in Yorkshire, she leaves NYC and is set to have a Christmas alone with exams to grade and wine to drink.
The only thing is she has to get there... and it is turning out to be a surprise blizzard. As she finally turns off to the one highway going to the small town where the cottage is... her car ends up stuck and adrift in a snow bank. With no other alternative...as cell phone is no use... she bundles up and starts her trek into town on foot.
He comes into play as the recluse, sheep farmer. His family has owned the land for generations; he is fighting to hold onto it. He is surprised by the blizzard and is in a rush to bring in the 200 head of sheep. He cannot lose any; they are too valuable and he cares too much. He has retrieved almost all but one.... one very stubborn, important ewe and he will not let her die. He sees her stuck in a water hole near the road. He tries many times to get her to listen and climb out but the elements and time are not on his side. As he talks to himself and the animal, a little voice calls out to him asking if he needs help.... she is there; against all of her instincts she climbs into the water, helps to pushes the ewe out and the both of them go back to his farm to dry off.
Both take side looks at each other... both have running comments in their heads warning them to just do what is necessary and separate. Both have been so hurt or guilty about past lives, it is hard for them to even talk.
He ends up helping her shop for food as there was nothing in the cottage. During this time at the market, he receives a call... it seems his daughter is coming to his home for Christmas with no advance notice from the mom. The relationship has been tricky from the start with him only having 4 hours on Saturdays with his daughter; he is at a loss... she over hears...sees him buying out the market and this scenario is hitting too close to what she ran away from..... Yet.. she cannot turn a blind eye and walk away.... she saw how messy and disorganized his home was... she offers to help get the home tidy as the daughter will be there in an hour.
They straighten everything... she has longing for this feeling of family... and the daughter arrives... she leaves for him to be with the daughter.... but as she walks away... she is somehow wishing there was more...
This really is a tale of lost souls finding each other through fate, circumstances or meant to be... the feelings in the tale were true... yet there were some issues I had with her. I got him and why he was the way he was... and felt for him. I was more frustrated by her past romance... I understood her pain and how she was alone even in a crowd…how there was no real family love growing up. My issue had to do with her decisions regarding all of it… logistics and all. Again… it was an important part of the story and she had serious remorse.
All that withstanding... the sweetness of these two lost souls finding each other was a pleasant read... and the epilogue completed the entire story.

A real home. A real family. A real Christmas.

A Yorkshire Christmas reminded me a little bit of the film The Holiday except Cameron Diaz doesn’t travel to the UK from the US, Claire Lindell does, and she doesn’t bump into Jude Law, but instead sexy and solitary farmer Noah Bradford.
Add into the mix that he is a single father, who has just had his young daughter unceremoniously dropped on his doorstep for Christmas, and you have a Christmas novella match made in heaven!

Best laid plans that thankfully go awry! After skidding into a ditch on a back country lane in the darkest depths of Yorkshire during a snowstorm, Claire finds herself rescued by the slightly ornery, but totally sexy Noah, staying in the cottage that backs onto his farm means that the temporary neighbors end up seeing more of each other than they originally planned. Noah’s daughter Molly is a welcome addition to the story, and gives it a heartwarming and familial feel.

The Christmas Around the World series, offers the ideal solution to a reader that is busy at this time of year but still wants to get a little reading in, or if you just want to curl up for a few hours and lose yourself in a seasonal romance, you can have your Christmas fix, but in quick, sweet, easy portions. This series is the perfect accompaniment to your glass of mulled wine!

I am a Yorkshire woman. How could I not read this book. I see it as a duty and Kate Hewitt has brought a sweet, touching, festive novella with characters to love and a setting that is beautiful, homely and everything that is rural Yorkshire. It's made me want to jump in the car and go for a drive to the Yorkshire Dales because I'm lucky enough to be able to do so.
I could've read a full length novel. I so wished it had been as it captivated me from the off. Yes everything is condensed and happens over a couple of days but it was paced perfectly and whilst some of Claire's inner monologue seemed a little desperate at the start, it soon became apparent why. But it was Noah that brought the moments that truly tugged on my heartstrings...he stole my heart, although I confess I have a bit of a thing for a literary farmer so he already had a head start.
It was a lovely little read. One of those perfect books to curl up with in front of the fire, with a mug of marshmallow laden hot chocolate whilst the Christmas tree twinkles in the background. Add this to your Christmas reading list, you won't be disappointed.
Whilst this book is part of the 'Christmas Around the World Series', it is completely standalone and the series can be read in any order.

I could've read a full length novel. I so wished it had been as it captivated me from the off. Rich New York City girl Claire decides she wants to spend Christmas alone, so heads off to spend a few weeks in her godmother Ruth's cottage in the village of Ledstow in Yorkshire. She hasn't made any Christmas wishes and doesn't expect any Christmas miracles to take place, she just wants some time alone. Some heavy snow soon alters her plans when she meets Noah, a sheep farmer who owns the farm next door to the cottage where Claire is staying. He's led a totally different life to Claire and has a slightly muddled past and a young daughter, Molly, who he sees once every couple of weeks. A few days before Christmas, Molly unexpectedly gets dropped off at Noah's house to spend Christmas with him. This all adds up to the perfect Christmas story; lonely single woman meets lonely single father with young daughter.
This is a lovely, sweet Christmas themed book. It's only short (but well written), so perfect if you're rushed off your feet at this time of year going to parties, organising Christmas dinner, buying and wrapping presents and eating mince pies. It really conjured up images of a traditional Christmas; snow covered fields, real log fires, the smells of holly and evergreen and being around family. It reminded me of The Holiday film which stars Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jack Black, so if you enjoyed that movie you'd enjoy this book.
The only negative is the story only comprised of just less than 50% of the kindle book, the remaining half was made up of excerpts from other books from the same author or series.
Saying that, it's just long enough to enjoy with a couple of mugs of steaming hot chocolate and a couple of mince pies while snuggled up next to the fire.

For me A Yorkshire Christmas has the feel of the move The Holiday Claire is Cameron Diaz leaving New York for a week over Christmas to spend in Ledstow a small village in Yorkshire she wants a quiet Christmas on her own in her Godmother's cottage to escape her parents and her problems.
Noah is Jude Law he's a sheep farmer who live's a life of solitude hiding from his past mistakes he has a daughter who he only see's for a couple of hours each Saturday, they have not got the easiest of relationships.
Thanks to snow, a trapped sheep and a flighty ex girlfriend can Noah, Claire and Molly bond over Christmas doing Christmasy activities like a snowball flight, cutting down a Christmas tree and decorating the tree etc.
A nice heartwarming festive story with some great characters and the story was beautifully written.

Three and a half stars.
A lovely little story about Claire who runs away from her family and job in the USA to spend Christmas alone at her godmother's cottage in Yorkshire after an undisclosed 'incident'. Unfortunately she ploughs her hire car into a snow drift and is walking to get help when she comes across a local farmer, Noah, trying to rescue a sheep which has become stuck in the mud. In return for her help with the sheep Noah agrees to help Claire get her car out of the drifts. Then, when Noah's flighty ex demands he takes their daughter Molly for the holidays, Claire helps Noah prepare for the arrival of an eight year old girl.
This was a sweet, feel-good romance full of rosy cheeks and Christmas carol services at the local church, Agas and cutting down your own Christmas tree.
My only gripe? This is NOT a 230 page novel or novella. It is a 115 page novella with another 115 pages of extras. Whoops, just looked to prove my point and there is actually a 10 page extract from another novel and then a bonus story. Which I am just about to read.
What a disappointment, it was to all intents and purposes the same story, just set in America. Rich woman flees superficial party and breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Rescued by a local who takes her to his rustic shack where they bond over cutting down their own Christmas tree, he also hasn't celebrated Christmas for years. I feel more cheated than if the 'book' had just contained the single novella.
Downgraded to three stars.

A Yorkshire Christmas had all the warm, fuzzy feelings I've come to expect from holiday novellas. I liked Claire and Noah and how they found comfort in easing each other's burdens. The moments they shared with Noah's young daughter Molly were especially heartwarming. Despite all that, something felt missing when it came to Claire and Noah's ~romance. Maybe it was the insta-ness of it or because it didn't feel all that romantic, more along the lines of two lonely people making a much needed connection. The premise may have worked better as a full length novel but I did appreciate Kate Hewitt's effort to add emotional depth to the plot and characters.

What I liked about this novel....
This was a very good holiday romance about three people to form into a family during this Christmas holiday. Although Claire Lindell (city girl) was well off , but sad after something had happened and with no happy memories when it came to the Christmas holidays she decides to spend this holiday in England at her Godmother's cottage all by herself. However, after Claire's car breaks down and she meets Noah Bradford who was a sheep farmer who had a daughter named Molly. Will things change for them? This is were this story will take off and this author presents to the reader a awesome emotional well written story where there will be Christmas magic that these three (Claire, Noah and Molly) will end up spending the Christmas holiday together. How did this come about? Will this last after this wonderful holiday? This is where I say you will have to pick up "A Yorkshire Christmas" to see how this author brings it all out to the reader. I will say it was captivating seeing Claire and Noah open up to each other. Wow!
I liked the presentation of the characters who were so well developed, real and believable. This is definitely one of those quick reads that has lots of love and imagination that will put a smile on your face in this wonderful Christmas love.

This was a sweet romance set at Christmas time. New Yorker, Claire, travels to Ledstow, England for a quiet Christmas and promptly gets stuck in the snow. She then meets the owner of Ayesgill Farm, Noah, when she helps him rescue a stuck sheep. Later, Claire rescues Noah when his 8-year old daughter Molly comes for an unexpected holiday visit. Together the three bond and rescue each other from the hurts in their lives. It was all very light and sweet and told at a good pace. It was a very nice holiday read.

I´ll be honest, usually if there is a book in my BookBub newsletter with a title containing Billionaire or any of the like under the romance category - as well as many books in the romance category in general - I stray far away. I have had some serious prejudice against them and when I saw this offered for free on kindle a while ago (and without millionaire/billionaire in the title!) I decided to give it a shot.
It turned out, I was right and wrong.
Starting off, the book is said to be 220-ish pages long. A Yorkshire Christmas is actually only around 100 and the other hundred is another book called Falling for Christmas.
A Yorkshire Christmas was for me an ok read. It was nice and Christmassy sure, I don´t regret reading it and I enjoyed it, but it didn´t wow me. I also had some problems with the insta-love. Claire, our main character, seemed interesting to me and I liked the idea of her story. Claire´s car breaks down on the road, all in a haze of snow. When she tries to walk the rest of the way to the cottage she is staying in, she spots a man struggling with one of his sheep. Obviously, she feels the need to help him, getting her expensive boots ruined along the way.
Cue-insta love....
Now I know it´s hard to get a nice romance with complexity and originality into 100 pages, but still. It kind of bugged me a little. Not enough to ruin the story, but a bit. Claire has this feeling that she wants to step into his life and very quickly makes herself comfortable helping him around his house. But, because of the love interests daughter, it still kind of works.
When it comes to the second book, on the other hand, it becomes apparent that Hewitt has a pattern. Even if the book has a different setting and characters. The dynamic is very similar, something that for me kind of takes away from the book and makes it predictable.
This time, the girl is called Hannah. She is a girl brought up wealthy (like Claire), she wants to get away from home for Christmas (like Claire), her car breaks down in the snow and she is "rescued" by a guy who just happens to look really hot in a thermo-shirt (like Claire) and she falls in love with him after hastily entering his life and home (like Claire).
See the pattern?
So, all in all. I liked a Yorkshire Christmas better than Falling for Christmas, I´m probably not going to re-read them next year and none of them really overwhelmed me. The only thing that stuck with me was Claire´s thoughts of how it doesn´t have to go against feminism to like doing domestic things, it just means you happen to be a woman and enjoy cooking and taking care of people you love.
Except for that, I´m feeling pretty much done with this.

Claire has this feeling that she wants to step into his life and very quickly makes herself comfortable helping him around his house. But, because of the love interests daughter, it still kind of works.
When it comes to the second book, on the other hand, it becomes apparent that Hewitt has a pattern. Even if the book has a different setting and characters. The dynamic is very similar, something that for me kind of takes away from the book and makes it predictable.
This time, the girl is called Hannah. She is a girl brought up wealthy (like Claire), she wants to get away from home for Christmas (like Claire), her car breaks down in the snow and she is "rescued" by a guy who just happens to look really hot in a thermo-shirt (like Claire) and she falls in love with him after hastily entering his life and home (like Claire).
See the pattern?
So, all in all. I liked a Yorkshire Christmas better than Falling for Christmas, I´m probably not going to re-read them next year and none of them really overwhelmed me. The only thing that stuck with me was Claire´s thoughts of how it doesn´t have to go against feminism to like doing domestic things, it just means you happen to be a woman and enjoy cooking and taking care of people you love.
Except for that, I´m feeling pretty much done with this.

This is a light Christmas story that can be read in under an hour. I wanted to be transported to Yorkshire and Kate Hewitt came through with this romantic story. The stars are Claire Lindell and Noah Bradford. She’s a New York City girl wanting to escape a bad love life and a disaster of a life situation. She heads to Ledstow England to spend Christmas alone at her godmother’s cottage.
While driving in a blinding snowstorm she skids off the road and becomes stuck in a snow bank. Now she has to walk to the cottage and she is not wearing appropriate clothing. Skinny jeans and fashion heeled boots. Not the stuff you need in Yorkshire.
During this bitterly cold walk she overhears Noah Bradford talking to one of his sheep. The sheep is stuck in mud and it’s about to freeze to death. She asks if she can help. Of course she does, and you know what will happen next. She ends up at his cottage and is offered dry clothing. Once Noah has divested himself of his wet coat and hat Claire realizes he is smokin’ hot! Tall, gorgeous eyes and a ripped boy. All guys are like this in romances, right?
Claire is a needy girl to be sure. Have you ever watched How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Remember the character Michelle who tells a guy she loves him in the first date and calls about 15 times in a day? No, Claire doesn’t do those things but her character is needy like Michelle. Insecure.
Noah is not in a relationship and closes himself off from the world. Claire is trying to do the same but they hit it off and fall in love. In 2 days. And plan a life together.
If you want a quick read with the Christmas theme and a setting in England them this book and setting is perfect for you.

This was just the story I was looking for and hadn't found.
A Yorkshire Christmas is an adorable and sweet story about two people who had been through bad situations and in finding each other, find the way to let go of their baggage and connect. The fact that's it's all set in a snowy town around Christmas time just made this story even better.
I enjoyed the main characters (Noah, Claire and Molly) and how in spite of the short time, I believed their connection. Stories about a couple falling for the other after a short time are usually a turn off for me when done wrong but Kate Hewitt did it right. I fell in love with her writing, the setting, the characters, their love and now I'm looking forward to reading more from her.
My only complaint? I WANTED MORE. I liked so much these characters that I wanted to see more of them together. Wish it could've been a full-length book instead of a novella, but luckily it didn't end abruptly like most novellas do and I was not left unsatisfied.
P.S. This is part of a series written by various authors but can be read as a stand-alone. I didn't check the other books and I didn't have a problem.

Fortunately, Claire’s plan doesn’t work out like she had planned. Putting her car into a snow bank leaves her to walk on foot during a snow storm to her godmother’s cottage, when she crosses paths with sexy sheep farmer Noah Bradford. Alone himself on Christmas Noah and Claire find a little companionship along with maybe love during their Holiday break.
I know I’ve said this before, but I love Holiday romances. They just hit the spot this time of year when it's cold and miserable outside.

OMG where do I even start with this? I only read this book because it is set in Yorkshire but now i'm just angry. It was just wrong, wrong, wrong! There is no excuse on Gods green Earth for a Yorkshire man to refer to a road as a Highway! the only reason to use that is when referring to Dick Turpin the infamous Highwayman who was hung from the gallows in York and whose grave is reputed to be there (I've visited it but legend says the body was stolen for medical research)

2. The M62 only runs to Leeds
3. Red Squirrels do not abound in York
4. York is in Yorkshire but it is not the Dales.
5. Terrible Parenting (on both sides)

I hope those who read this novel will like it better.

This story ended very abruptly. I didn't realize that Kindle included a "bonus" story by the same author.
This was just too short - very little character development and no real sense of conflict. Also there was sooooo much angst! Claire (who was so flat and dull that I forgot her name and had to look it up even though I just finished the book a few minutes before writing my review) actually thinks to herself early on in the book, "okay, enough with the self pity." If only she had heeded her own advice! Noah was no better. They both thought to themselves that they were no good for the other person. It got to be quite tedious.

What a great little Christmas romance! I read this in one sitting and it left me with a smile on my face :)

This was a rather short novel and pretty predicable, but I liked the lightness of it. That's what Christmas books are for.

Could have done with a strong editor. Backstory gets shared very late and almost surreptitiously, like the author doesn’t trust the reader. Audience is unclear (the protagonist makes such a big deal about liking Britishisms yet uses the term “cart” for trolley in the shop). Details are repeated to the point I would have liked to give up altogether, and the whole story feels rushed—one or two short exchanges cannot resolve a strained parental relationship, nor can they heal heartbreak and catalyse readiness for a new relationship that eerily echoes the one she is running from. The setting was pleasant and effectively executed, and I think there was potential for the story to be quite moving, but it fell flat for me.

This book was sweet, but the romance was a bit contrived and super rushed. I didn’t buy that the characters were already in love by the end. However, I do love me a sheep farmer hero. 😂

Second in the Christmas Around the World romance series and set in Ledstow, Yorkshire. The couple focus is on Claire Lindell and Noah Bradshaw.
My Take
This was a cute, (short, as it took just over an hour to read) sweet romance with a conflicted couple, and I liked the twist on how Hewitt had them meet.
I did prefer Noah to Claire. Noah is an honorable guy with a lot of baggage, and Claire's arrival provides the catalyst for changes. Now, Claire…she's got issues too. Most of them caused by her cold, "perfect" family. She's so desperate for a caring love that she deludes herself into grasping anyone. However, I did appreciate Claire's approach with Molly, as it is so honest. And caring.
The annoying part is how easily desperate she is. Yeah, it is an insta-love, but Hewitt does set up a good premise for it. It'll make you want your own cottage for Christmas…provided that sweet sheep farmer is next door, lol.
It was cute how distressed Noah was about getting through the Christmas holiday. He was so focused on his daughter and wanting her to open up to him.
I despise Dani and her parents (they sound just like Claire's parents!) Actually, I despise any parent who refuses to acknowledge their child's issues. Nothing says you can't love your child no matter what, but don't blind yourself to their problems. You're not helping them.
I am confused about that "grandfather". Was he Noah's grandfather, and he died five years ago? Or was he Noah's father — Molly's grandfather…who died last year? No, wait, five years ago…? Hmm, Hewitt has some consistency issues between Noah's father's death and if Mark has one daughter, ahem, or two. I am rather worried that an eleven-year-old knows what a rubber is.
Hewitt did a sweet epilogue, although I wouldn't mind revisiting them to see how they're doing.

Are you looking for Christmas cheese and cheer? Well welcome to the wonderful world of Christmas books. They are as fun as any Hallmark Christmas movie, and ideal for jumping into the festive zone. A Yorkshire Christmas by Kate Hewitt is a perfect example of the type of book I'm talking about.

This book isn't breaking new ground when it comes to Christmas Romance. But it does exactly what it should do. It introduces you to two interesting characters, a fabulous English setting in the Yorkshire dales and sprinkles some Christmas spirit. It's fun, it's sparkly and perfect for a lovely cosy read.
Claire is escaping from her New York lifestyle and she has some very definite plans for Christmas. Which to be honest, don't sound too bad to me. Minus the essay marking.
Noah is a single dad, and spending his first Christmas with his daughter. Father and daughter are not well-acquainted. So queue lots of awkwardness but in a very uplifting way. And yes I hated Noah a bit, but when I heard his story, I jumped back on his side.
You can expect Christmas smooches when both meet and I loved their instant connection. It didn't feel like insta-love, as their life circumstances just lined them up perfectly, to met at this exact time. It was cute and fun and I was goofy smiling at the romantic tension between them.
This is a short book but the characters were rounded and really well-developed. Even without the suspense of wondering what would happen, I thought it was just a really cute, romantic, fun read.
Overall it's sparkly and bright and gets the Christmas 'good book' tick.

When New York City girl Claire needs to escape from a complicated love life, she chooses to run to Yorkshire in England, to stay in her Godmother's little cottage. It's in the middle of the countryside and will give her the peace and tranquility she needs to get over what happened back home. What she doesn't expect is to arrive to masses of snow and to run her hired car off the road in the middle of nowhere. Two miles from the cottage, she decides to get there on foot (not dressed for the weather at all) and bumps into Noah, a farmer out trying to save one of his sheep, who is freezing to death stuck in a ditch. They help each other and strike up a friendship, which soon develops into something more, both of them having complicated pasts.
This was a nicely written descriptive novella, but due to it finishing at 48% into the read on my kindle (the rest was a preview of the next book) with no warnings on the book descriptions, I was completely taken aback. It meant that this was pretty much an instant love story, without enough room to fully explore the characters and their relationship which made it hard for me to get behind. For this reason it's a three star read for me.
