This book is an intoxicating blend of darkness and intensity that captivated me from the first page. I immersed myself in its hauntingly beautiful prose, feeling under a spell. The exploration of love is profound, illustrating how you inevitably discover that one person becomes your unwavering anchor. The tension is palpable, with sacrifices that tug at your heartstrings and a sense of submission that is both thrilling and terrifying. The experience is extraordinary, leaving me breathless and wanting more.
A.K. Rose/Atlas Rose is a relatively new author for me, one who had been on my radar for some time, though! I was excited to meet her at BABE earlier this year, and one of the taglines of “Hollowed” which instantly had my curiosity piqued, was ‘touch starved priest’, because, well, why not, right? 🤭 But no, maybe it's an idiosyncrasy but I really don't have a religious bone in my body, but there's something about priests x dark romance that swirls together so damn well! Can't imagine why… 🤭 “Hollowed”, was truly unlike anything I have read before! The prose is written almost akin to poetry, structured with enjambment flowing across the short, punchy lines, more often than not I felt like I was reading a piece of scripture, I kid you not! “Hollowed” explores a very delicate, divine, sacred found kind of love, a love remade from silence and ash, from darkness birthed to light, from loss to finding yourself again kind of love. A.K Rose's writing oozes intensity, passion and is so honest to goodness lyrical, reading “Hollowed” felt akin to visualising a rich, luscious tapestry unfolding, even in its 180 page length, I found myself really savouring this – and I'm pretty sure that there's more to come in this sanctimonious world, I sure hope so, at any rate – and I can't wait to read more A.K. Rose!
It is poetic and centered around the spiritual meaning (and love?) that can be found "in-between". It hints at an old god, a sacrifice himself perhaps, trapped by a dystopian and cruel congregation, forced to "devourer" human sacrifices, but never tells us who he is and how he ended up there. The story starts when the latest sacrifice turns unpredictable and examines the meaning and spirituality that can be found in forced contra willing silence, ritual and reverence.
It reminds me of Elin Brodin's Askefolket (The ash people) from 1988, where pain is sacred and suffering is turned into reverence.
This book speaks the language of people who find spirituality in body modifications and suspension, who finds strength in submission and, as the author says "for the broken girls who stayed".
I hovered between 4 and 5 stars As "dark, spiritual poetry" definitely 5 stars, but as a "dark romance" it lacks just a tiny bit of ... romance, so 4 stars.
I've never read anything like it. It kept me completely entranced, it kept me wanting to stay in this hauntingly beautiful chapel reading about this devotion and worship that was birthed from the flames of a sacrifice that never really was. Because she was his! I absolutely ate up the poetry in this book and all the silent but given vows freely to each other. He is this old God that was sacrificed at one point and has been left to Hollow and break the sacrifices given. She was always his. Never to break but to worship. Ahhhh I need more 😍 I'm so used to Atlas Roses Mafia romances which are absolutely amazing! That this was so unexpected. It was a beautiful masterpiece 🩶
Hallowed is a haunting, poetic novella that explores the ache of love, longing, and surrender. It reads like a dark prayer—elegant, emotional, and unafraid to touch something raw.
While the spice level was a solid 🔥🔥 (not for lack of frequency, but for tone), the real heat came from the emotional intensity. A.K. Rose has crafted a story that feels like being worshipped and owned—yearned for in a way that transcends the physical.
This isn't just erotica—it's something more. It's about being seen. If you’ve ever wanted to be consumed in love or felt that need echo inside you, this will hit hard.
This sacred dark romance novella read more like a poem, leaving the reader to interpret the meaning behind the interaction of the two main characters. Silence is worship, love isn't soft-its carved.
