The essential guide to being smart about money and investing
Blue Chip Kids: What Every Child (and Parent) Should Know About Money, Investing, and the Stock Market is a fun and easy-to-understand introduction to the world of money and investing for kids and parents. Frustrated by the lack of entertaining financial teaching materials for his 13-year-old son, this book is the result of a father’s commitment to pass on one of life’s most important skills. Written by David W. Bianchi—an investor and lawyer with an economics degree from Tufts University—this hands-on resource demystifies the basic principles about money matters and shows what it takes to spend, save, and invest wisely. Filled with simple examples and numerous illustrations, this easy-to-read book discusses money and investing in 100 bite-size topics. For every parent who wants their children to develop the skills to invest wisely and become responsible money managers, regular savers, and to earn money while they sleep, this book is a must-have.
I don't know. I learned a couple things, but it's clearly not aimed at me. If the presentation style is good pedagogy, I'm all in; if not, not. So I'll try to encourage (read bribe) my admittedly younger kids to check it out and see how it goes.
The thing in Chapter 8 (titled "Analyzing Companies") about Tesla's P/E being zero because they had no earnings drove me up the wall. After "any stock price divided by zero will always be zero", I kind of checked out for the rest of the book.
my favorite quote: "Never become partners with someone you don't trust and don't respect. It will lead to nothing but problems."
I got in about 60 pages and it got too complicated for me. The title said "kids" and I thought about my grandkids who are always looking for ways to make money. I discovered that this book was written for high-school students.
This book provides an introduction about various finance topics for kids. The topics are introduced up to definition level only, but I'm glad that I learnt a few things more after reading this book.
I learned a lot from this book myself! Definitely not just for kids. I will be using it as a reference book to understand financial terminology, how investing works and everything in-between.
I am so glad that my stepdad got me this book for Christmas- it is really shameful, how little I knew of the finance world and what my options are to increase my wealth over a lifetime. This book was written for kids, but I can certainly see why the majority of its readers are adults! I highly recommend!
This is a must read for anyone interested in learning or teaching their kids the basics of money. It offers simple, easy to understand explanations about everything from wages, currency, stocks, mortgages, and more. I learned a lot and am happy to have a resource to reference for my children when they are older.
This is an excellent book for ALL AGES who want to familiarize themselves with the basics of finance and the stock market. But it goes beyond that, It will introduce you to knowledge of options, Bonds funds etc. I wish that all subjects of life has a book written in this format.
Great book for every teen to read to understand basics of investing. Also good for adults who can't understand all that stuff on the investment websites!
