Some gifts are hidden for a reason. Hers may change everything.
Drea Pierce thought her life was falling apart. Laid off, heartbroken, and questioning everything, she accepts a mysterious job with an elite private organization, one that hunts down ancient, powerful artifacts hidden in plain sight.
But not everything about this world is what it seems. Power Wielders walk among them, rare individuals who can absorb and channel the raw energy within these relics. Drea’s supposed to be just another recruit. Ordinary. Replaceable.
Except she’s not.
As she’s pulled deeper into a world of magic, secrets, and deadly missions, Drea begins to sense something within herself that doesn’t fit the mold, but refuses to be ignored. And when danger strikes beneath the streets of Paris, her instincts kick in, rewriting everything the Organization thought they knew.
She’s not just part of the story. She may be the key to changing it.
Power Wielder is the first book in a gripping fantasy romance series filled with slow-burn tension, fierce heroines, haunted relics, and a hidden power waiting to rise.
DA Davies writes romantasy stories filled with slow-burn tension, hidden powers, and kick ass heroines. Blending sharp humor with rich worldbuilding, Davies creates heroines who fight as fiercely with their hearts as they do with their magic. When not writing, you’ll find her with a strong cup of coffee in hand, plotting the next twist in the Power Wielder Series.
What a story! I was hooked from the start - the writing style drew me in within the first few pages.
You'll love the relatable FMC, who goes from down on her luck to discovering a secret sector with magical possibilities.
And, of course, who can resist a loyal ride-or-die friend, the quintessential 'mean girl,' and the entitled females who get what's coming to them?
Not to mention the strong, silent type who's secretly cheering on our heroine (and maybe even harboring feelings for her...)
Now I'm left pondering my theories and wondering: What's the deal with Pope? Is Drea headed for a love triangle? Can't wait for book two - the possibilities are endless, and I'm all in!
I went into this book not knowing what to expect (new author for me 👀), but after the prolouge? Consider me immediately intrigued. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I connected with Drea. She’s relatable, resilient, and constantly growing. No matter what gets thrown her way, she overcomes it and dusts herself off, gets back up, and comes back stronger. 💕
This book gives us the slowest of slow burns.🔥 No spice here but the stirring of tension is there just a tiny bit and more so towards the end. I’m crossing my fingers for fireworks in the next book!
Now, full honesty: the first couple of chapters had me feeling a little lost, like I was missing a puzzle piece or two. It took me a bit to settle in. Some parts got a teensy bit repetitive or overly descriptive—but nothing that ruined the fun too much. And for a debut novel, it was very well written otherwise! I enjoyed the world in which Drea lives in.
Overall: ✨ A main character who grows so much you just want to cheer her on. ✨ A slow-burn romantasy that’s currently simmering but promises sparks. ✨ Mystery, twists, and just enough chaos to keep you flipping pages. ✨️ A finale that leaves you questioning a lot of things still. (Seriously, WHO even are some of these people??) 👀
This book sucked me in from page one and refused to let go. The writing grabs you right, the pacing works, and the FMC? Strong-willed, a little bratty, and full of wit — basically my kind of girl.
The whole time I was like: are we gonna get a hot training session or what??? Because the broody mood, the angst, the tension — it was all there. Friends-to-lovers energy bubbling under the surface had me chanting “just kiss already” and I loved it like the lunatic I am.
I also found myself desperate for other POVs — I wanted to know what everyone was thinking, feeling, wanting. The mystery kept me guessing right alongside the FMC, which made it even more fun.
Plot-wise, it gave me Nikita (tv series) meets Divergent, and honestly? Refreshing and different in the best way. Hidden society, unknown powers, and found family tropes done right.
Now listen, I loved the story… but the unholy part of me still wanted the FMC to get some action (and no, not just on the battlefield 👀).
✨ Tropes you’ll find ✨ Found family Hidden society Unknown powers Potential friends-to-lovers (calling it now for book two 👀)
Power Wielder by D.A. Davies is a strong debut that delivers action, magic, and just the right touch of heart. Drea Pierce is the kind of heroine you can root for—resilient, curious, and thrown into a world that’s so much bigger (and more dangerous) than she realized. The elemental magic system is creative and vivid, and the pacing kept me turning pages.
I especially enjoyed how D.A. Davies layered in intrigue with relationships and secrets—it never felt like just another fantasy, but something with a unique voice. At times, I wished certain character moments were explored a bit deeper, but overall this book sets the stage for a series I’ll definitely keep following.
If you love romantasy with elemental powers, high stakes, and a heroine who refuses to back down, this one is worth picking up. Book two is set to release on October 28th, 2025, and I can’t wait to dive in!
Overall the plot was unique and interesting. The story telling read a bit like a romance novel - interesting, but a bit overwhelming at times. The character development was a bit fast since the whole book was supposed to have occurred within a 2 month window. Two months was enough time for some things, but not really enough for others. For example, the heroine was supposedly of moderate physical condition and yet gains an incredible skill level in boxing inside a month. I don't doubt that someone could get to that level of training eventually, it just was a bit fast. My biggest complaint was the scattering of foul language in the book. It wasn't necessary to the plot and was more of a distraction to the story than a help. Authors who can't describe anger or frustration without resorting to gutter language are not doing well enough with the language.
I really enjoyed the storyline and the overall idea behind Power Weilder. D.A. Davis has clearly put a lot of thought into creating this world and its characters — it’s an impressive and well-structured concept. His writing is strong, and you can tell he has a real passion for the fantasy genre.
That said, I personally find fantasy books a bit hard to read at times, so it took me a while to get into it. But once I did, I appreciated how unique and well-developed the story was. If you enjoy detailed world-building and imaginative storytelling, this book is definitely worth picking up.
Sentient artifacts and the crew that hunts them down?! Yes, please! Such a fun concept for a series that follows our heroine, Drea Pierce, being recruited, trained, and going on a mission or two. She's not quite what everyone thinks. This book had me staying up way too late to read and the clever prose was such a joy to read.
Magical powerful artifacts and people with the power to feel them, hunt them down and wield them. Excellent piece of creative writing. Can't wait to continue on the journey of uncovering mysteries and power with Drea
Pretty standard urban fantasy but I found myself enjoying it. Not sure why everyone is either beautiful or old. Also are we sure it's Tactile and Combat? Shouldn't it be Tactical?
I really liked this book. It was a whole new take on magic and fantasy that I haven’t read before. It kept me curious all through the book and anxious to know what happens when the book was finished. There wasn’t a lot of romance in this book so I wouldn’t necessarily classify as romantasy BUT I can see where it is leading to more romance in book too and am looking forward to see how they form a relationship and grow from there!
