Red Flags and Rogue Brothers #1

Red Flag, Green Light

Rate this book
Mars Rogue is my next-door neighbor, the town's baddest boy, and now my boss.

In exchange for my no longer needing to retrieve my own groceries ever again, I'm helping a borderline criminal plan a "Flag Day festival" for the town of Bandera, but mostly for his brother. Apparently.

No, I don't understand what's going on either.

All I know is that Mars sure makes a lot of carrot cake for someone considered "dangerous." And he's absolutely not even a little bit hot.

Surely with danger in question, that hotness factor won't change, right?

Wrong.

As a dark romance girlie, all I want is someone willing to paint the town red for me. Then take pictures of it. So I don't have to leave my house.

And, well, Mars seems more than willing to oblige me on all accounts.

So long as I do as he says.

Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.

Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.

Man, this duet has really hit the feels. As always, read the author’s note. Guys. As if a Flag Day series is not a big enough red flag, this brother duo most certainly is. But hey, the book girlies love them. This is a clean, sweet romcom, but the tension is literally on fire. Also, love Mars, but fictionally only. You know. Tall-ish, dark and FICTIONAL. Gotta love them 6 foot one and a quarter dudes. 😋 Also, don’t mention the shoulders to Mars, it’s a whole thing.

Hilarious and unhinged in the best way

I’m not really a dark romance girlie, but I will always read anything Camilla writes so I read this one, and then I read it again. I love the characters, love their crazy and I love that once again I just feel happy after reading a Camilla book. I love how she shapes tropes into her own name brand version of them and magically writes a ‘toxic’ couple without the actual toxic part. She’s a wizard.

Red flags anyone??? He’s for sure got them, and she for sure wants them!

How are they so stinking cute and yet so red-flaggy at the same time??? I’m not sure how it works, but it does.

Mars insecure? Oh heck yeah. But totally lovable. And Ceres. She’s lovely. The manipulation between the two = funny.

Brian and Melllie. What in the actual heck?! Are you for real going to make that happen or just tease???

Read it of course, but obviously be aware that it has some light darker themes. It’s red flags, so obviously.

Not my favorite of her books. There are some really funny moments, though, and it is still quite entertaining.

You’re NOT gonna be surprised with what I’m about to say: This book, naturally, is a 5 star read.

Camilla Evergreen has done it again and wrote a masterpiece. Unsurprisingly.

This book is special and you should definitely read it because it’s a closed door romance BUT the FMC is a dark romance girlie and her boy is a dark romance author.

Can you imagine how this will go? Well, you don’t have to because you can just read this book.

Anyways, the flirting was top tier, the romance was perfect, the characters were deep and so so real, and the book was worth reading and I can’t wait to forget it so I can read it again. (All per usual)

If my review doesn’t convince to read it, the cover 100% should.

Disappointed.

This book was not what I expected. I thought we were going to get an unhinged heroine and the somewhat “normal” guy that was head over heels for her ala Loathing My Boss or Hating the Cinnamon Roll CEO.

Yeah, that didn’t happen. The guy was unhinged but in a weird unrelatable way.

The girl was crazy as expected but not in a fun way. More a messy, depressing, annoying way. She was so mean to Mars who was beyond head over heels for her and she had zero reason to be. Sometimes it was just because she thought it was fun. Gross. Also, she had zero personality. When I imagine her all I can think of is a blank face staring off into space.

The whole thing was a slog to get through. It took me days to get through this when I would normally have a book this size read in less than a day. Just glad it’s over.

I didn’t think I was going to like this one, given that I am not so much into dark romance- controlling, choking, toxic situations- yeah, they just aren’t me. However, having read the companion book, Red Flags Only by Storm Sterling, I wanted to know more about the younger Rogue brother, Mars, so in I went.

And I enjoyed it- after suspending reality, because honestly, this couple are a bit twisted. As in if you were to stumble upon someone like this in real life just run, because red flags are red for a reason, okay? Nobody needs toxicity and abusive behavior from a loved one- isn’t the world hard enough without bringing it into your home?

But, no judgments here if that’s your jam.

In this story we find Mars, the younger Rogue brother, whose reputation in town is pretty much as bad as his brother Jove’s. Bad boys with a penchant for slashing tires and chopping trees down on sheds. Yes, there is a reason behind it, and Jove is the one mostly responsible for it as a sense of karmic justice (read Storm’s book for more on that). Mars has done more good, but there was the time he set the courthouse on fire. Luckily for the boys they have their ways to avoid being charged unless they want it.

Mars is hopelessly in love with Ceres, their next door neighbor. He is too shy to approach her directly, so, in order to catch glimpses of her (Ceres is agoraphobic and only goes out to tend her garden or her once a month drive into town to pick up her grocery order), Mars installs security cameras around his house and they all point at Ceres’s home. Not at the bedroom or bath, because that would be intrusive, and he is, in this instance, a gentleman, even if he’s already accessed her home’s blueprints online and memorized them.

So what happens when Mars decides to take a chance and bribes Ceres with an offer she can’t refuse in exchange for helping him throw a Flag Day festival for Jove… a red flag day, because isn’t Flag Day the most romantic day of the year?

Step one in the goal to marry Ceres has been taken and let the games begin.

Mars is actually quite likable in his way. Both he and Jove believe the other is the stronger one, so finding Mars to be a bundle of nerves at his inadequacies was a surprise, as well as the fact he believes he is slightly nuts… which makes him a quaint mix of a loose cannon who is sensible and mostly responsible for his choices.

Ceres… woah. She is not what I expected- I mean, after finding out up front that Mars has video surveillance going on you expect him to be the dark horse but nope. Not even close. She’s possibly more crazy than Mars, but you can’t help but want these two together because it’s a relief to not have to mask who you are with others, and their insanity just compliments one another rather than destroys.

Whatever- take it or leave it, this book is unabashedly what it is and refuses to apologize for it- the author does include a warning up front of red flags and that this is only a story and not real life, which I appreciated.

Camilla's books are always a bit on the crazy side, and this one fits the pattern. I LOVE the way that she always includes potentially triggering things in her author's notes and how she is VERY clear that in real life WE RUN AWAY FROM RED-FLAG BEHAVIORS.

In true Camilla fashion, Mars is obsessed with and gone for his next-door neighbor, Ceres. Ceres is a proofreader! Love to see that. We all know how I feel about books and editing...or lack of it. (insert eye twitch here) Mars and his brother are an author team, and, unbeknownst to them, they've been living next door to their proofreader for years. Finding this out only increases his love for Ceres, and he begins a project of sorts to get to know her and ensure they spend time together.

It's fun. It's definitely FICTION. I'm curious about Jove and Lyra's story + Brian and Amelia's story now.

Favorite Quotes:
-“Well, I have to get to work now, Mellie. These commas won’t unsplice themselves.”

-Resting my chin in my hand, I stare at the words my dear friend is sending me, with zero regard for even the most basic levels of grammar. I knew there was a reason alcohol never interested me. I just didn’t think it was because it makes you allergic to capitalization and punctuation.

-“We’re friends, aren’t we?”
“Business partners. And neighbors, actually,” she corrects.
“And—” I tap her nose with my card. “—friends.”
“Closer to enemies.”
I shrug, take her hand, and drag her back to my car. “Makes no difference to me.” Both tropes end the exact same way.

-She unwittingly invites people in, and they dissolve into the peace that emanates from her without ever realizing how overwhelming it is to have someone thrust themselves upon your grace. She’s left holding fragments of the souls she encounters.

-"I don’t need to be saved. I need to be tormented and taken against my will into the belly of my fears, so I can get over them and become even more self-sufficient.”
Girlie pop, what you need is therapy.

-“I’m so scared,” she whispers.
“Fear isn’t strong enough to stop you.”

-“I want to know you, protect you, and keep you. I want you to be mine beyond skin. Because while every cell in your body is replaced roughly every ten years, the same can’t be said about your soul. That’s where I want to leave my fingerprints. In the place you can’t ever get rid of them.”

-What manner of he-falls-first, instalove nonsense is this? Oh, right. The kind I devour by the truckload.

-How odd that my lifestyle is built continuously on the desperate need for control, yet I yearn for the peace and relief that comes from giving it up into hands that won’t hurt me.

-“I love my mom. I miss her. Even though she’s gone, I am who I am because of her."

Please read the readers’ expectations before taking yourself on this journey

So…dark romance. Yeah, book girlies love a dark hero, or anti-hero, and Rouge really knows how to write them. Sara Pond (AKA Ceres) is the editor for Rouge, and has no idea that Rouge is actually Jove (DO NOT call him Jupiter unless you’re Lyra) and Mars Rogue. She absolutely wants one of those flawed leading men for herself…or so she thinks.

Mars has been spying on Ceres for…forever, really. Eight cameras focused on different parts of her home, so he can watch her whenever he wants. Well, as long as she’s in view of one of those cameras, which are all outdoors. He is desperate for her, wants to take care of her, because she ignores her own very real needs of eating regularly and buying groceries in a timely manner.

One day, Mars decides he just can’t wait any longer, and uses the spare key to come into her house while she’s working. And the dance begins.

It’s heartbreaking how Mars sees himself; when he (as Rouge) floats a new story to Ceres that isn’t really a dark romance, with a male lead who does not tower over the tiny woman, she is immediately resistant. She thinks all the male leads must be tall and broad (for kidnapping purposes), end of story. As Mars is really writing the story of his love for Ceres, he decides to start doing a hundred or more pushups a day, hoping to get those shoulders Ceres craves.

Ceres thinks she wants a villain, which Mars is not, and watching the two of them come together and figure each other out is really quite sweet and moving. Mars is all in from the beginning; he’s fallen first, and fallen hard, and can’t quite keep himself from confessing to Ceres that he loves her. In order to have a reason to be in close proximity (because he hasn’t admitted that he and Jove are Rouge), he enlists her to help him organize a Flag Day festival, because, Flag Day, as everyone knows, is the most romantic day of the year.

Seeing as how my parents were married on Flag Day, and I got engaged to my now-husband on Flag Day, I must agree with Mars’ declaration that it is the most romantic holiday.

Watching these two damaged people (we’re all damaged, we all have issues) come together and end up better understanding each other, but also themselves…well, it moved me to tears more than once. The Rogue Brothers have been through a lot, and they’re not bad guys; they’re just loyal to the point of committing felonies that can never be proven. (Still looking at you, Chrissy. You got what you deserved.)

Red Flag, Green Light is part of the Red Flags and Rogue Brothers duology from Camilla Evergreen and Storm Sterling. While these are interconnected, and I believe have some crossover in the timeline, it could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

I'll be honest, I'm not really a dark romance girlie. At all. I tend to try to steer clear of the red flags--- green flags are preferred all the way here... and yet, once again, Camilla Evergreen has managed to create a story that definitely has all those red flags that you'd expect in a dark romance (I mean, he literally has cameras pointed at her house!)... and yet, it still also manages to somehow come across as sweet too. Definitely some darker elements, but not too dark for my tender sweet romancing loving heart. I have no clue how she manages to pull it off so well, and yet... here we are once again. (That being said, it's still not going to be for everyone, so be sure to check out the author's note for content to decide if it's the right choice for you.) Mars and Ceres certainly didn't have your typical love story, but I adored the two of them together just the same. Red flags aside, he still has such a soft heart for the people he cares about... and Ceres certainly fits that bill. As someone who also struggles with agoraphobia, I did appreciate that aspect of the story as well.

Red Flag, Green Light is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. There is some innuendo/mentions of sex... and again, all the red flags!

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Don’t be intimidated by the talk of red flags and dark romance.
It’s not just for people who seek out darker romances.

As someone who has never intentionally sought out dark romance or red flags in reading, I can safely say: this is for readers who like committed, respectful partners. Forever, kind of love.

It is a romance following a couple who have trauma. They exhibit behavior that would be a warning sign if found in real life relationships, especially without respect or communication combined.

But since this is not real life, it is fiction and we all know romances often have a tremendous amount of, “oh, that just happened?” moments.
This one has plenty of open communication and actually has some boundaries that I think could help real couples handle life better.
But that’s another conversation.
Anyway.

I don’t seek out dark romance, however, I trust this author. I’ve seen the way she handles romance and I throughly enjoy her stories. Every time so far.
So I highly recommend.

Just as I recommend with each of her books, always read this author’s note and readers’ expectations pages.
They will give you a great idea of what to expect in the story itself.

Romance: only kissing (no nudity or sex in story, on or off page)
Language: mild (all swears are written as, “he curses”)
Ending: HEA. Satisfying resolution. No cliffhanger.
Part of a series but can be read as standalone, no problem.

ARC Review for Red Flag, Green Light

Ceres stays home. A lot. She moved to a tiny town so she could chill and...not go out. Out is exhausting. *People* are out there. She works from home, doing...something. Mars isn't sure what she does, but she does it from home.

Who's Mars? He's her neighbor, and she smiled at him once, and he is 100% smitten. He watches her, just to catch a glimpse, in case he never ever works up the guts to actually talk to her.

Both Ceres and Mars labor under the impression that they're Simply Too Much. For everyone. All the time. Too unhinged. Too dark. Too crazy. Too...them. This is the story of how they figure out that they're just enough...for each other.

This book tends towards the "dark romance" genre, without actually *going* there. As always, I trust Camilla Evergreen to take us on a ride! I would not hand this book to children, but if you're looking for all the swoon and none of the spice, with a splash of Please Kidnap Me and oodles of other red flags, with Dual POV...Ceres and Mars are for you. (I LOVED this book. I love everything from Camilla. This one is towards the darker/unhinged spectrum of her work, but still delightful and totally readable for a low-spice girly like me.

This is book one in the Rogue Brothers duology, released with Storm Sterling. (Storm's book, book 2, released last week. Because that makes perfect sense.)

The best kind of red flags!

I never quite know what I’m going to get when I read a Camilla Evergreen book. All I know is that I will enjoy it and that there will be deep themes included with the romcom aspects and that it will be quirky, maybe a little weird, but also completely loveable and make me think about my life in depth for days after reading. This new release is no exception! There are SO MANY wonderful quotes I wish I could share without spoiling the book.

Ceres and Mars are so perfect for each other and they don’t even realize it. Ceres needs someone to make her take care of herself more than she does (Food? Hunger? What’s that?), and Mars needs someone to ground him and reassure him that he is absolutely good enough as he is, normal shoulders notwithstanding.

There are some really heavy themes in this book - check out that author’s note/content warning at the beginning. Both characters have childhood trauma and carry big wounds everywhere they go, and it is only with each other that they can finally work through those things that have mentally held them hostage.

I also loved getting bits of Jove and Lyra’s story from a different point of view and getting a sneak peek at what I hope becomes Brian and Amelia’s story.

This is book one in the EverStorm duology Red Flags and Rogue Brothers. Check out Red Flags Only for Jove and Lyra’s whole story!

If you take every red flag in the world and apply them to Mars Rogue, you would have a delightfully zany main character from Camilla Evergreen, the perfect man for his next-door neighbour, Ceres. Ceres is a dark romance editor, her favourite client being Rouge, the creator and writer of the best dark romances to top the book charts. Unbeknownst to her, Rouge and Mars are one and the same (well, Mars is half of Rouge, the other half being his brother Jupiter, for more information, see Red Flags Only by Storm Sterling).

Mars is obsessed with Ceres, in a sweet, shy, insecure, not at all unhinged way. Ceres is a loner, hates going out of her house, even to shop for groceries. So, in exchange for collecting her groceries forever, Mars convinces Ceres to help him plan a Flag Day event with him. She readily agrees, being slightly unhinged herself.

This was a story full of red flags for real life, but as Mars points out regularly, we book girlies lap it up. They were very comfortable with each other, and their crazies matched perfectly. As the story unfolded, Ceres stepped out of her comfort zone more and more, and Mars revealed more of his insecurities and fears (FYI, I now know all about cone snails and am now terrified of them)

If you love zany banter and unhinged MCs, then this book is definitely for you.

I’m speechless. I want to write this review while freshly off the cusp of the proverbial closed cover of this deliciously delightful book that I’ve only just completed reading in ebook format.

How to describe it? I am wholly cocooned in raptures, yet I fear the literal red flag behaviors, despite the book’s multiple warnings prefacing its content, (and said content being even more so full of such beautiful care and love,) will be off-putting to anyone averse to red flags in their fiction.

It’s for the girlies. The dark romance girlies who want depth and unhinged relationships and love bordering on obsession and romance without the bedroom scenes eclipsing the heart of the character’s affections for one another. (Meaning free of spice but still got that dark flavor.)

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but a wrong done to a not so good person in order to give a right to an innocent one is, in a twisted way, admirable. Morales. A code. Lines. Decency intermixed with the questionable choices. Such characters are just. so. FUN.

In other words, clearly, I am among the target audience for this book. If you think you are not, then don’t read it. If my ramblings have only further enticed you, then do, please, read and enjoy.

Carrot cake, so much carrot cake.

Get ready for a very entertaining read. The banter in every Camilla Evergreen book is always top tier material, and this book is no exception! I laughed out loud more than once and rolled my eyes more times than I could remember. There’s a paper-thin edge of ridiculous that borders on actually insane and Camilla’s characters tight-rope walk that line like their fictional lives depend on it!

Mars is not your typical MMC and that adds to his charm (even if not to his shoulder ratio). While the brothers in this duo have bad-boy tendencies, they actually challenge gender-norms, show tenderness and care in the sweetest of ways with their FMCs—but also with one another, and they aren’t nearly as scary as their reputations would suggest. Toxic masculinity hates to see a Rogue brother coming…

This is a light, sweet read with some sizzling kisses but no on-page intimacy (duh) and I recommend this book to anyone who wants a whimsical escape from reality—and sanity—for a wild romp into morally gray-ish, carrot cake obsessed territory with sugary sweet buttercream (not cream cheese) frosting on top!

This author does it again! I love the intense nod towards darker romance, while still staying within the closed door/kisses only genre! The hidden identity trope plays so well with the red flags in this book, and especially I love the way you can understand and see Mars's thinking throughout because of the dual POV. I really enjoyed Mars's relationship with his brother, his desire to help both Jove and Ceres in ways that they maybe didn't even know that they needed, and his care taken for those whom he loves. Technically this book is labeled as "book 1" however the books in the pair of authors duology can be read in either order, without any major spoilers or misunderstandings. They definitely are best enjoyed as a pair, because you will see both sides of the brothers' relationships. I also greatly enjoyed the cameos from characters in the Fire At Will series (definitely not required reading before this book, just books everyone should read because they are also fun). I read an early version of the book, you should most definitely check this book out ASAP!

Red Flag, Green Light by Camilla Evergreen is a sweet romcom full of red flags, but not really.

This book is to all the dark romance girlies, Camilla did a great job balancing some sort of dark romance elements but with a fluffy, sweet twist. Boundaries, trauma, and self-esteem issues are packed in every page. While reading, my mouth dropped and boy, oh boy did I not expect any of these twists and turns. Ceres was the surprising female lead with dark fantasies. Mars oddly enough was the crazy one but seemed to be the voice of reason. They both were a blend of trauma and twisted personalities, but each with a wonderful character ARC that you can’t get enough of.

Despite the seemingly dark elements, Camilla did such a great job in adding sweet elements that I just lapped up. I love the communication between both of them from their dreams and fears. Their plans for the future and the banter was amazing. This book also was great to read after book two of this series. I think Camilla and Storm created a beautiful duology. Despite the obvious red flags in the series, the Rogue brothers were devoted.

I recommend to anyone who loves a he falls first, dark romance rom-com.

Thank you Camilla Evergreen for the free book.

Another Everstorm hit!

The Everstorm universe strikes again with another darkish romcom. I am constantly amazed at the depth with which Camilla Evergreen writes her novels. Please do read the author notes at the beginning of the book to be sure that this book is one for you, but I promise that it is clean and sweet even though it hints (or more than hints) at dark romance themes.

The story begins with Mars’ POV and his obsession with his neighbor Ceres - obsessed to the point of having cameras trained on her house at all times (nothing naughty, just obsessed). Mars and his brother Jove (the town’s bad boys) co-write dark romance novels and have an editor named Sara who helps Mars polish up the books before publication. But Sara isn’t her real name…and Mars finds out.

Thus begins the fun, not only with emails and editorial comments that go back and forth, but also when Mars appears in Ceres' living room and coaxes her into planning a Flag Day festival for his brother, because it is the most romantic holiday of the year. Ceres really doesn’t like to be around people so Mars promises to pick up her groceries so that she doesn’t ever have to leave the house once the festival is complete. Ceres agrees.

Along with the usual banter, alternating POVs, and red flags, you get an in-depth look into two people who just want to be loved in spite of their insecurities and peculiarities. Mars and Ceres find their HEA, of course, and their journey is delightful despite (or because of) the many red flags along the way.

4.5⭐️ The acceptance these two give each other is so meltingly perfect! Ceres has carried other people’s burdens her whole life. Mars has been feared and rejected by the town he grew up in. Each has a little crazy and a little toxicity and craves the unconditional, unending, maddening love found in dark romance. (Especially for Ceres, the very gray morals and lack of boundaries.) I loved seeing them find with each other the acceptance and support they’ve always needed but never gotten. Such a great story and very well told! Note that this is closed door. There are references to dark spice, but it doesn’t actually happen in the book. No fade to black. Like some other Camilla Evergreen books, intimacy is talked about as a “husband and wife thing.” Do read the author’s note and trigger warnings - this isn’t for everyone.

Red Flag, Green Light

Okay, so this was a wild ride from beginning to end. An unhinged, maniacally sweet, delightfully captivating read. The title should have been a clue, but I had no idea what I was getting into. Imagine that someone took a dark romance, substituted in all the right ingredients for a clean romance, and added a dash of mental instability and a sprinkle of carrot cake obsession. That was this book.

This is a no-spice read, although there was innuendo (it’s based on dark romance book girlies after all), so be forewarned. There are some chuckle-worthy moments, and while I enjoyed the book, it wasn’t a read where I felt like I HAD to know what was going to happen next. It was “culture shock” in a good way? I’m interested in reading more books in the series.

Another fabulous book by Camilla Evergreen. Even though I don’t relate to the dark romance genre I can still connect with the fundamental need to be loved. Mars says it perfectly, “All I want is to be loved. That’s it. I am desperate for someone to love me. In spite of my many flaws. In spite of my…me-ness. I want to be right. Correct. Wanted.” Even though Mars has some very questionable behaviors, he does almost everything out of love, for his brother Jove, Ceres, or others who are unable to help themselves. One of the things I love about this author, other than some hilarious lines, are the big truths she writes.
I can’t wait to read the other book in this duet that focuses on Jove’s story.

I love me a Camilla Evergreen book

I’ve loved watching this Storm Evergreen universe unfold and I’m excited to see how Amelia and Brian’s story unfolds next!

Ceres and Mars are definitely a lot more dark romance vibes than his brother Jove and Lyra are in their book, but I still very much enjoyed it!

I liked that in this book it felt like their relationship developed over time even if it was just a few months. Sometimes books can feel like the plot is moving at warp speed but this one was just right! We got to know both characters as the book went on and see how they truly made each other better.

While this is a closed door romance I will say it is a bit steamier than some of her other books.

I am also a bit sad we didn’t get a wedding scene 😭

Speechless. That is what I am. The mastermind behind this book and series is genius! Not until the end did I fully get if the books were about actual flags or the relational red flags to watch for in a person's behaviors.

As with all Camilla's books, do not skip the author's notes and content warnings. Appreciate the crazy ride for what it is: a made up fictional story for entertainment not for real-life attainment! I loved the twisted thought process of Mars and Ceres: so convoluted and beyond left field yet so sincere and sweet.

There are no swears or alcohol and level 2-3 kisses only. First person present, Dual POV.

P.S. don't miss mail-obsessed Brian Single's Cameo.

ed Flag, Green Light is romcom perfection! Camilla Evergreen delivers a hilarious, heartfelt, and utterly swoon-worthy story that had me hooked from page one. Mars Rogue is the ultimate “bad boy with a soft center”—grumpy, mysterious, and secretly obsessed with the heroine in the dreamiest way. Their neighbor-to-lovers, boss/employee dynamic is full of banter, slow-burn tension, and so many laugh-out-loud moments. The Flag Day chaos? Hilarious. The emotional beats? Chef’s kiss. This is the kind of cozy, closed-door romance that wraps around your heart like a warm blanket. I laughed, I swooned, and I never wanted it to end!

I wasn't sure about the "dark trope" aspect of this book, as dark romance isn't normally my thing...but I fell easily into the story from the first page. It was easy to read and delightful, even with the edginess. It's a sweet, sassy, and tongue-in-cheek love story - yes, naturally with some possibly disturbing elements given the main characters' situations and tendencies - yet charming and gentle. Once again, I give serious kudos to Evergreen.
I received this story as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Loved this book, also, loved Mars...is he slightly insane? Yes, is he a little obsessed? Yes, But it's totally from a good place... so you know... all the swoon! He's fallen for the girl next door and she's just as quirky as him so its perfect... she just needs to see it. Slow burn closed door but Ceres gets there and it finally clicks. Mars most definitely has a way with words, ever so patient, how could you not fall in love with him!

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own

Mars and Ceres book did not disappoint! Read the Reader expectations and author’s note to make sure this book is your style, but if you love Camilla Evergreen and Storm Sterling books then I think you’ll love this one as well. Ceres loves dark romance books so there are literal red flags in the story both in behavior and for flag day festival. Mars is her perfect “villain” who is crazy about her and has her taking better care of herself. While there is dark romance elements in the story, it really is a sweet closed door read.
